The Official Gardening Thread!! Spring is coming!!

Hey Fellow Vw'ers!
Spring is just around the corner, so I'm just starting to do my seedlings and pick out what I'm planning on growing for Spring... I've already got my herbs started.. I think I will do a mix of indoor windowsill/kitchen , container & outdoor (possibly raised bed) gardening. What do you guys have planned? I'm for sure not a gardening pro, but I'm trying to relearn what urban man has forgot and be able to grow *some* food or at least herbs & garlic... So, everybody feel free to contribute anything pertaining to indoor or outdoor gardening please!!  ;)b

Double fun: there shouldn't be an apostrophe in "lot's" unless they're talking about Lot's wife.

One hopes!
I was going to try to link the image to something gardening-related ... but I fail.

Yes, you learn how to foliage the hoses, and shelf them by leaf and width.

They are not coiled?

No, more aptly: coiled.

ok so my okra seedlings came up for a couple of days and then all died.  *shrug*  so i planted more seeds.  try try again!!!  i planted two types of southern peas and beets.  i certainly enjoyed getting my hands muddy (it rained yesterday).  i feel like i got my moneys worth with those seed packets.  i like getting dirty.

my cucumbers and watermelon are going crazy!!!!

oh i also planted a sweet potato that i had in my kitchen.  it started growing leaves.  so.  i put it in the ground.  we'll see.

oh and heres a picture of my grandfathers garden.  he uses old golf clubs to stake his plants.  hes pretty awesome.

Storm, do you start you garden indoors? You are already harvesting!

I do start my seeds indoors, but blackrabbit is right, it is mostly the Florida thing.  We basically have a year round growing season.  The down side of Florida gardening for me is that my yard is basically sand so I have to grow everything in containers.

I wish spring was coming. Yesterday it snowed all day in the mountains around our home and then went down to a couple of degrees above freezing at night. My poor tomatoes are getting anxious to be planted. But the peas and potatoes, kale and radishes carrots and beets are all coming fine and the weather forecast is improving.

Orange Habanero Peppers

The rains brought blight and took out most of my tomato plants, my cukes, zucchini, and yellow squash, but the peppers are doing great.  I have one Portugal Hot, two Bhut Jolokias, three Red Savinas, four Dancing Spirits and five Vietnamese Black Dragons (hairy peppers) just up through the soil.  Seems weird that I planted the same number of seeds for each variety (5) and got 1,2,3,4, and 5 in germination. :-\

I just got everything in the ground here in Connecticut.  Zucchini plants, tomato, string beans, bell peppers and 1 jalapeno plant.  Though the weather is so crappy that I doubt I shall get any product for a while at least.  Hopefully by September, maybe. haha.

Photos of my gardening are all up on facebook!

my herbs and peas have all been growing lots, but I've noticed something is eating my basil :( there are 2 other plants in the same pot but only the basil has holes all in it! all i can see on the plant are tiny yellowy-orange bugs (only a couple on there though). I hope they go away soon. I might spray the plant w/diluted vinegar...in hopes that it will ward off the bugs but not harm the basil.
