Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
Hello all I am new to the site. I am a mix of contradictions, but that may be to my varied areas of residence in my 43 years. I was born in the Midwest, lived in Arizona, California and now back in the Midwest. I am a Firefighter by profession, which is my 2nd career and I truly love it, I really wish I had pursued it much earlier in life. I will have been married for 21 years this February. I have two daughters and two granddaughters. I am surrounded by females at home, even my dog and cat are female! My only escape from all of that estrogen is my 24 hour shift at the fire station. (Maybe that is part of my love for the job) ;)
As for my diet I have flirted with being a vegetarian for years and even made a 2 year attempt once, but I fell of the wagon. I am trying again and so far I am getting help from all of you out there!
The hardest time for me will be when I am on duty, as there are no other vegetarians in the department. We rotate cooking duties and I think that some of my fellow firefighter are actually afraid of vegetables! ;D
Now I have to get back to reading all of your interesting posts.
:> You will definitely have to experiment with the fantastic recipes here! There are so many choices..and so many things that non-veg/non-vegans love! Try variations on dishes that you know they already like. ;)b
My wonderful bf accepted a challenge a year and a half ago to go vegan for the summer...
I am the "wonderful bf." Having given into the nagging, I have successfully stuck with being vegan.
hehe I feel so accomplished sometimes
ooomm nom nom nom that pizza is pretty good.
Hi, I'm Isabella from Newfoundland, Canada. I've been a teacher for 31 years and now I'm retired taking care of my mom. I've been vegetarian for 11 years and so is my whole family. I have 1 husband, 2 sons, 1 daughter-in-law and 1 grandcat (carnivore). We tried a vegan diet for a couple of years but went back to vegetarian. Isabella
Hmmmm, what can I say?
I am a slave to 3 greyhounds and 4 kitties...my hubby fends for himself pretty well...
I am a medical laboratory technologist who is greatly uninspired by my profession so I am currently studying natural nutrition with the intent of becoming a nutritionist. Depending on the open-mindedness my clientèle I hope to incorporate many different aspects of healing with food, herbs, teas etc.
I have been vegetarian for 8yrs and try to live by the seasons and with respect to Mother Earth. am slowly trying to wean my hubby off cheese in hopes that we can become a vegan household (wish me luck)
Anyhoo, that's me.
i am new to the site. i guess i don't get around much. lol. but thank god i have finally found it. this is gonna help me and my friend so much to become completely Vegan. we are i guess strict veg-heads ((for lack of a better word)). we try not to eat anything from an animal but sometimes it's hard to not when you don't have much experience with "alternative" food. but you all seem to be really nice and helpful so now i can have some support. my family thinks i am wierd for not eating meat but now that i know where it comes from and how they treat the animals...it's repulsive.
i have a cat name Yuki a new puppy ((no name. suggestions??)) and i take care of my mom's pig sometimes. i am single and looking for a male or female. i am in the Tampa area of florida but don't mind long distance things.i am about to graduate from high school. finally and i am studying web design and photography.
but that's about all i'm gonna waste your time with.
like i said i am new so do write...
I'm Lisa, I'm 43, single, live outside of Nashville. I am an Esthetician and love what I do. I am a new vegan and feel better than ever. I read The Food Revolution and could never go back to eating meat products. I have a cat named Dezi, I love reading, shopping, cooking, anything artsy.....lately I have been obsessed with decoupaging.
I read it all! ;)
ha ha. you probably know because you read it all, but i FORCED myself to read it all before i posted myself. i can't even remember what i said.
::goes back to check:::
I didn't even remember what I read all of..I guess I did though.
Uh, I guess this is the intro thread. Been lurkin for about three weeks or so. I'm just a lacto-ovo and have been that way since age 9 with no plans of going vegan (although I admire those who have the motivation). I'm almost 21 now. I don't really have a life. Got two mental problems. I'm from northern CA. I'm living w/my dad and taking classes (3/4 time). I'm also kind of training to be a medical transcriptionist online. My name's melissa. This site's great! I love looking at recipes and now happy to notice there are forums too! :)
welcome, sociallyphobic.
the forums are helpful and fun!
Evenin' Im Eric and I just had the best mango.
I've been a member of this site for quite a while now, and I've never visited the forums until now.
Shame on me. :(
Anywho, I was a vegetarian for about a year, and have been a vegan now for about 9 months. And I love it. I'm the only vegan in my family, including the extended - there aren't even any vegetarians - so it's a little awkward when we all get together, but we make it work. It's taken some getting used to for everyone, but it's accepted and compensated for now, even if it's not fully understood. Even the office I work in is great about it, and if they get lunch for all the employees then whoever orders goes out of their way to make sure they get something that I can have, too (usually just a salad, but the effort is much appreciated). I get a lot of questions about what veganism is, though, and people are constantly surprised to find out that I don't eat something and what the reason for it is, but I'm sure all of us have been through that.
Oh yeah, and I just turned 30 back on March 15, so . . . well, now you know that too, I guess :)
I found this site when I was looking for a recipe to take to a party.. I tried out a marble cake and it went great! I don't do a lot of cooking because I still live at home, but I want to start! I'm 18 taking Philosophy and English in university. My parents raised me vegetarian and my family went vegan when I was 13.
I don't quite remember how i found this site, probably from Susan V. at Vegan Kitchen. I joined roughly 2months ago.
I've been vegetarian since the age of 8. At 11, i decided to cut eggs and dairy out too,
I eventually want to get into the fields of art and psychology. People fascinate me.. I live in california, where i have my entire life,
I have two grey kitties who are almost the same age as me, and a 4 year old boston terrier,
I like to draw, paint, read, run, crochet, music...and such and such.
Hey everyone, I joined a few weeks ago, been vegetarian for about 7 years and am starting the transition to veganism. Have to say so far I'm super impressed with this site... i've tried 3 recipes on here and every one of them has been awesome! It seems I'm in the minority being Canadian... Im from the cold praries (Winnipeg) and 26. (Have to say sea_of_green I'm impressed with your story... vegan at 11! yay good for you!) :bear2:
Hi people!
I'm from Australia, I'm 32, married and have two boys. DH & I both decided to go vegetarian about a year ago after watching 'Earthlings'. My sister has been a vegetarian for 30 years, vegan for the last 5 years so I have been really lucky to have lots of information and help from her! We both regularly cruise vegweb for recipes and share and swap them, I love this site!
Being vegetarian has really inspired me to be more adventurous and creative with my cooking. I'm a big fan of south indian curries... mmmmm
:flower: CarrieJane
Hooray, lots of new people! I love hearing everyone's stories. :)
Hi, I have been coming to the site for about a month now, visiting some of the forums, some of the blogs, recipes etc. About ten years ago, one of my cousins became vegetarian, because of a health problem. At the time I really didnt give it some thought, just thought she was crazy, lol. Well, she goes back and forth, and she is more just a Lacto-Ovo, rather than straight forward just veg. Well about two years ago, I was talking to a Med Assistant about my heath problems, and she suggested going vegetarian, and I got thinking back to my cousin. She and I have the same illness, and like her, I go back and forth, but I have noticed that when I do eat meat, depending on the meat, my body rebels in little ways.
So in my normal long winded manner, I was saying that just my cousin and I are the only ones in my family who is veg, and the only ones who dont think we are crazy, is her immediate family and my mother, HA.
Hi, Sheyen! Welcome aboard. Although if you're looking for a place where people don't think you're crazy, I think just about everyone here is a little crazy. :D (But in a good way.)
