Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

Hello all  :)

My name is Lucy and I stopped eating meat somewhere around age 7 (25 years ago), and started phasing out dairy about 9 years ago, and am now practically vegan.

I work as an embalmer, have one 9 year old child and live in a remote-ish area that is about 30 years behind the rest of the country. As a vegan embalmer that also makes washable san-pro I stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the farmers and fishermen around here, so am looking to communicate with like minded people. Plus, most of my family are insane and very annoying.  ;)

I especially like the way this site doesn't jump on people for not being vegan, or  on those who have the odd exception to their dietary label, as this to me makes veggi-ness appear hard and unattainable to those wishing to dip their toes in animal-product-free waters. All steps in the right direction should be applauded, no matter how small.....

I look forward to loitering and procrastinating on the net with you all!

Hello!
I'm new around these parts...so a little background info...I'm a Environmental Studies Major and I live in the Bay Area. Right now I'm interested in a career in recycling and waste management, one day I would like to work for an NGO helping less affluent communities become sustainable. I became a vegetarian just recently, about 6 months ago. I'm excited everyday to cook something new and delicious. I love desserts. A lot. I have a dog who lives with me part time. I live in an apartment so he stays with my parents much of the time. They have a huge yard and other animals. I love to travel, ride my bike, learn, and do puzzles. Nerd? Most likely. Anyway, that's me. I'm super excited to meet the lovely members of Vegweb!

Ok, so I think I'll finally put my little bit in this thread!
I've been on vegweb for ages, but only ever really used the recipes section.  Since the forums have been up and running again I've been posting odd random comments on a few threads.

Well, I'm in the UK - London to be precise.  I've been veggie for, ummmm......wow, 17 years! and vegan for 8 years.  However, I do tend to have lapses when I'm on hols abroad and can't figure out how to explain vegan or can't find anything remotely vegan - then I will 'do dairy'. (lame excuse I know but I do try!)

I live with my bf who is definitely not veggie!  I know some other veggies would find it hard to live with a meat eater, but it's ok for me.  My bf doesn't eat much meat at home, like maybe once or twice a month.  He actually likes trying out new veggie foods with me - but not if it's too vegan!  He can't quite get to grips with nutritional yeast!

Ummm, can't really think of much more to say about me right now, so back to perusing the recipes to decide what's cooking today!

I also live with my boyfriend who is a meat eater.  It's really not as hard as people think it would be, but I think I'm lucky in the sense that he's willing to try everything and likes almost anything, so he's easy.  The only non-vegan stuff he has in the house is organic milk, lunch meat, and cheese for sandwiches.  It's a good compromise for us.

Welcome  :)

A vegan embalmer? What about embalming isn't vegan? (I want to be burnt, but I'm just curious)
Is washable san-pro part of the embalming process?

I googled "washable san-pro" and got a bunch of stuff about washable menstrual pads.  I've never heard that term before.

hehe, I was a little afraid to do that--try googling images of 'the black dahlia' and see why  :P
I would never make it as a doctor. Or an embalmer! kudos to pinkteapot :)

so i decided to jump on the bandwagon and tell a little about myself. :)

i'm a 20-year old student at LSU in baton rouge (baton poohge!), loosyana. i've lived in la all my life, and i'm pretty much sick of it. i've been vegan for about a year...i was taking a renewable natural resources class and was especially inspired to change my lifestyle into something more friendly to the earth and everything on it. one of the lectures was on the environmental impacts of raising cattle, and i was so pissed off about our country's dependence on animals for food i decided to stop contributing. the fact that my digestive system didn't agree with dairy didn't hurt either (even though i could eat cheese like it was the only food in the world). also, i see it as almost crucial for my health since my dad died of colon cancer when he was 40 (yeah, 40), and i know if i still ate meat i wouldn't be getting enough fiber or other healthy stuff to help prevent me from having colon problems too...

anyways, my life isn't all that depressing.
i've been in a great relationship for the past 2.5 years with a nearly-veg boy (he can't really get away from seafood or dairy, it's such a prevalent part of eating here, but he doesn't eat it as much as he used to). my family is very supportive, although my mom kinda treated me like i was anorexic when i first told her i was vegan lol. i should graduate next year with a bachelor's in psychology (don't know what the hell i'm gonna do with it though...).  i've become a lot more interested in nutrition and environmental studies, so i'd like to do something with that maybe. i looooove to bake and cook, but i've been baking longer so i'm better at it than cooking. i would love to do something with food, but i'm not very creative lol. i've used a bunch of recipes from here (long-time lurker, just now posting haha) that have all turned out pretty good. yall are all so creative and i appreciate you sharing such great food! i wish i knew more vegans in real life, most of the south is about fried meat on a stick or something like that.

sooo, that's a little bit o' me. sorry for the long post. i'd like to post more and actually get to know yall.  :w00t!:

Between San Luis and Santa Barbara...a city called Santa Maria. It's know for its barbeques. You literally cannot drive down the main road on the weekend without seeing barbeque pits everywhere. Madness.

Oh, why not...

I've been a vegetarian since I was a 13-year-old living in Philadelphia (i.e., cheesesteak and Italian hoagie country). I cut all meats all at once and never looked back. I did it for all sorts of reasons--health, ethics, animals, (positive) influence of my best friends at the time...

I'm the only vegetarian in my family. In high school, I often just didn't eat the meat but ate everything else, and as I result I wonder what my protein levels were. (Okay, that's not completely true--I was very dependent on Morningstar Farms for a very long time! I've tried to become LESS so... just because that stuff is so expensive!) Starting in mid-college I started cooking for myself (and frequenting a fabulous veggie restaurant in Baltimore, Maryland), which helped me gain some efficacy with tofu and other foods somewhat less conventional by traditional American-diet standards.

Then I married a meat-eater when I started grad school a little further south in Maryland (between Baltimore and DC). He's not a tofu fan, or a fan of the veggie-meats and soy cheeses, but we make it work. I tend to lean toward dishes that can go both ways--a side of meat for him, a side of a veggie protein source for me. This is when I discovered VegWeb--lots of great stuff! The Asian dishes are especially popular at our house. However, grad school is pretty stressful, and there was much more prepackaged food/takeout/eating out than I'd like to admit.

Now I'm an academic living in the midwest. I knew I would love KC when my search committee went out of their way to find an organic restaurant specializing in vegetarian dishes for my interview lunch. My husband is a trailing spouse this year (I can't WAIT for that to be over!!!) but in his absence I've been a lot more creative. I have been trying to limit my dairy and egg intake to near none (for health reasons) but don't consider myself to be a true vegan. I know in my absence he's been doing a lot of takeout pizza and blue-box mac and cheese--I can't wait to cook for US (not just me) again.

i'm a dire hard vegan.  not much to say other than i'm a low vision artist  (macular degeneration) and i enjoy meditation.    i like my hair pink, my man gentle and i always love a balcony packed full of vegetation and chipper birds frolicking and my spelling bad.

;)b

i'm not much into recipes, probably because i'm so boring and mostly a steamed/raw type.  i have some things but, eh,  folks wonder how i dare to live my diet is so boring.

:-D

Hey! Low vision artist...does that mean you're an artist who has macular degeneration....or you're an artist who does art related to ...low vision...

I am brand new to this vegan culture and still learning. I am a 41 year old stay at home mom of 4 boys and 1 girl. They are 25, 24, 21, 20, and 11 years old. I live in northeast PA and am loving all of the great recipes, tips, and like mindedness I'm finding here! :)>>>

Lurker here, too. Been a member for a couple years or more, just don't find much time to get on and chat.
I usually just come here for the recipes, but it would be nice to meet some people, too. :)
I've newly moved to the Austin-area (it's a big place, so don't even try stalking me) and I don't know anyone. Is there any events going on in this area, ever? I would think so, being Austin and all. :D
I've been vegetarian for...seven years; was vegan for three years, then went back to vegetarianism.
Finally got hitched; he's not veggie, but that doesn't bother me. I know some people would freak out and could never be with a person who eats meat- and that's their choice. But for me it's not an issue. I'm not a "veggie police" (not anymore, anyway ;D )
uhhhmm... I don't really like talking about myself that much. I'd much rather converse with people live, getting to know them that way.
Umm... I have a livejournal blog, but I never update, so there's no need to post it here. hahha.
Erm...and I write. Speaking of- I need to go do that now. I'm working on a short story.
Oh yeah- and am doing college courses. but you can see that on my profile. yup.
enough!
