Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

Hey everyone, I am new to the Vegiweb, Live in Denver, Colorado for the last 13 years. I am 30 years old plus 6 more i just hate saying the real age makes me feel old. I have three kids all about to become teenagers. I decided two weeks ago that I would become a vegan, after my daughter told me about one teacher whom is a vegetarian. So my daughter asked me Friday "When are we going to stop eating healthy?" LOL.
I went to the library and checked out "Vegetarian for Dummies" btw very good book I have already finished reading it. My main reason for deciding to go vegan is because of High Cholesterol, my doctor insist that I have to go on med's I really just want to show her that it can be done without medication. Here I am on my quest for a better life, dragging my children and hopefully my husband along for the ride.  Actually my husband is a truck driver I told him about my new lifestyle change really not sure how he is going to take it when he realize that I am serious. Any helpful tips are always welcome.

Hiya, everybody. I've been a lurker for a bit as well and just signed up for my own username yesterday. This site is fantastic! I'm so glad it's here. I'm new to this vegetarian lifestyle and it's intimidating at the moment, but every new study, fact, and tidbit opens my eyes a little more which confirms in my mind that I'm making the right choice. For the most part I feel ashamed at how close-minded, uncaring, and gluttonous I've been in regard to animals. I hope to redeem myself one day and am currently looking for ways to do just that. See y'all on the board!

I just joined!

I am vegetarian and do not eat eggs, eventually I may transition further...

I have a blog that lists non-egg, vegetarians items at restaurants.  I have been writing to them and posting replies and whatever else I find.  Also have some recipes.  I just started, so please give me any feedback and tips that you can.  Thanks!

Hi, all. TBirdie, here.

I was surfing the internet, looking for a great site for a new vegetarian.  I found you all here and have decided to add my name to the roll call.

I have been trying in vain to become a vegetarian for the longest. :-[ Afraid I may have a lot to learn. Not sure if I trust my own judgment at this point, but that's all I have. I know to eat a lot of dishes resembling the old carnivore dishes I've eaten in the past. Like spaghetti w/ Boca crumbles, veggie bologna sandwiches, soups and salads. I love fried tofu, veggie bacon, etc and of course vegetables. Problem with me is that I'm not a very creative cook and I'm on a strict budget. Anyone else find eating this way to be very expensive?

I am determined to change my mindset that it's just too hard to be a vegetarian (let alone a vegan). I want to make this to work and be frugal at the same time. This site seems like a great place to ask questions. How do you all eat economically? Many of the recipes I like seem to have tons of ingredients. I'm interested in knowing how do some of you eat without spending an arm and leg?  :)

Hi new people!  It's nice to see so many new faces.

Tbirdie, we have a thread going on about that very topic:

http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=22737.0

I've had success as a vegan college student, so I know you can do it too!  Check out all the great ideas there.
The main ideas are to buy in bulk and make good use of canned/dried beans and grains, for me.  If I do that, it allows me to have some money for fresh produce (though I rarely buy more expensive fruits like berries).  If you buy ready-made, prepackaged, convenience stuff, it does get pricey!  I usually spend $20-30 a week for just me.

Hi everyone. I am 37 year old guy. Vegetarian for several years. Just turned vegan after doing the infamous Master Cleanse. Wow what a colossal waste of nine days. Anyway, enjoying it so far, and hoping to enjoy it for the rest of time. Especially easy with so many awesome recipes here.

Cheers from California.  8-)

I like these types of threads; always nice to know the people of a community better.

Ok, something about me:

My name is Matt, and I've been lurking here a little bit, but thought I should pop on to say hi.

I'm a male, 25 (though often people swear I look like 17... I guess it'll be appreciated in 20 years or so :p), a vegan since November 2007, and a vegetarian since at least age 13 (though I honestly can't remember exactly when I made the move). I was born in San Diego, California, but have lived in several SoCal cities, Colorado, Utah, and recently, in Warsaw, Poland where I'm currently an English teacher. I'll be returning Stateside to return to college, and then possibly after finishing more degree work, try further teachign abroad (it's been phenomenal for me).

I'm vegan for ethical reasons, and have been steadily more concerned with animal rights over time.

This is a response to Becky who wants to prove to her doctor she can lower her cholesterol and does not need a statin drug. Becky, it can be done!

My doctor wanted to start me on a statin because my cholesterol had shot up to 280. I said no and went home and changed many things in my diet. Six weeks later, I had lowered my cholesterol by 100 points! and my partner's by 90 points!  My doctor was amazed but I knew it could be done. I kid you not. 100 points!

My name is Stephan. I realized that I've never posted on this one, so here goes!

My name is Jessica and I became a vegan in Feb 2008 (after being vegetarian for ~6 months).  I'm 25 and currently live in St. Louis, MO.  I have a degree in animal science and I've always had a love of animals.  I never thought I could go veg but it's been one of the best decisions in my life!  I lost weight, feel healthier, and overall just feel better about myself and my choices.  I'm married to an omni named Lucas who swears that he'll never eat tofu.  He's pretty supportive of my lifestyle in general, but it would be so much easier to cook if he'd go vegan (wishful thinking!)  I'm putting him through architecture grad school right now...meaning I spend a lot of time behind a desk!  I found vegweb by chance when I was very newly vegan and searching for recipes.  Everyone on here is so insightful and I'm learning a lot!  Thanks for all the great recipes and support  ;)b

Welcome new people! If there's a particular topic you're trying to learn more about (seitan, cholesterol, animal byproducts in alcohol, etc.), just use the "Search" function - this place is a virtual encyclopedia of vegan, nutritional, and anatomy information!  ;D

Becky7 - good luck keeping your family on track! The first six weeks is always the hardest figuring out what to do as you go - check out the cookbook reviews and if you post a question, someone will inevitably reply within a few minutes!

Yeah, and if you're looking for a particular recipe...or something that would be in a forum, I suggest doing "advanced search," which is right under the search bar. You can do "uncheck all," and then check only the forums which are on the bottom right...or only certain recipe topics. I find this very helpful and easier to navigate!

Well aren't you just fancy pants knowing the advanced search - back in my day all we had was the Search - and we liked it!  ^-^  Okay, climbing down off my undeserved soapbox, go back to your schmancy Advanced Search ways  ;)

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and my name is Joelle  :)>>> I've been vegetarian for about 10 years, and vegan for 4.5 total.  I love, love, LOVE to bake (check out the "baking" section in my photos), and I am going to open a vegan bakery in my town as soon as I am financially able to (hopefully next spring).
Sooo, I don't know what else to say here! I'm hoping to meet new people. If any of you have AIM, message me @ "joellyurine"
