I think listing the carbs is a relic from the low-carb, Atkins-type diets that were so popular not too long ago :-\ I suspect it means all carbs.
No worries, I lovez me some carbs too!
Yay, I'm not the only Carbohydrate Queen. 8) (Low-carb diets make me sad... poor unloved starches... I read that them diets make you lose weight by forcing your body to 'eat itself'... I may be wrong.)
All dem foods was gross anyway; seems like none of them DIDN'T have dairy, eggs and/or meat... no wonder they're fatty!!!

No kidding, I was watching the food network last night about this guy who was 300 lbs and had lost 50 lbs. For this evening's show he made fried chicken cutlets and cheesecake. How does anyone lose weight eating that crap??

Well, I guess if you just take a typical diet and simply remove a significant portion of it--carbs or whatever else--you are eating fewer calories, so you are bound to lose weight. From what I understand, those diets only work because of that. It doesn't have much to do with the type of food you are removing.

Yar, once I was watching (one of my favourite foods shows) The Surreal Gourmet and this one awful episode was all about the low-carbs... I think they made a cheesecake - not a dessert, but a cake made of meat and cheese, frosted with more cheese and mashed potato(?)... with a side of faux garlic bread made from - wait for it! roasted cauliflower breaded with crushed pork cracklings :o :o :o
Ugh, I'm making myself nauseous. Sorry, I'll stop now. ::)

Hmm, good point. I bet a diet rich in vegetables and good quality wholefood type 'carbs' (hey, like a vegan diet!) would be super good for the body. I know those high-protein diets work wonders for some people, though. I'd be miserable.

It DOES have to do with the type, but it is TERRIBLE for you (obviously). You send your body into a state of ketosis, where it basically thinks it is starved and you start breaking down all kind of tissue that you shouldn't in order to make glucose (your body needs glucose, it is a very important source of energy!)
anyway, I don't think there is a single person in the history of the world that has lost weight with atkins and kept it off. They just have to keep going back on it. Idiots (I shouldn't say that, I swear it wasn't me...).

Ugh ugh ugh, this thread is disgusting. Heliamphora, if I had eaten anything yet this morning, the description of that "cheesecake" would have made me throw up. Ugh.
My old boss was perpetually on Atkins and told me one day that being vegan sounds unhealthy... I wanted to punch him in the nose.

OMG! :o
17: Worst 'healthy' burger Ruby Tuesday Bella Turkey Burger # 1,145 calories 71 g fat # 56 g carbs
We chose this burger for more than its calorie payload: Its name implies that it's healthy.
Back when I was still an omni, I used to eat these because I thought they were healthier than cow burgers!! They certainly tricked me with the name...... I'm feeling ill........... :(

Truly. Sorry. ::) ;) I just can't believe those people. And they're like, oh, we can use as much olive oil as we like, it's 'free' (i.e. not carb/protein??)... uh, what?
OH, the ignorance. If Doc (f)Atkins wasn't dead I'd punch HIM inna nose. :P

In its defense, the Awesome Blossom from Chili's is actually really tasty. But there is no way in the world you would be able to eat the entire thing. I haven't ever seen 4 people finish one. It's basically the biggest onion you've ever seen cut into a blossom shape, battered and fried. It tastes like a gigantic onion ring, which is obviously awesome. But again, it's enough for a party of 6+

I'm sure some people do, though... ::) And is that Awesome Blossom really vegan?! :o I thought that usually, things like onion rings were battered with a milk, buttermilk and/or egg mixture... No? (Not that I'm going to rush out & eat it, but it's cool to have an option for a splurge--to share--if I ever find myself at Chili's...)

I just searched around a bit, and it looks like all the copycat recipes of the Awesome Blossom are made with buttermilk, which stands to reason that the real thing probably is too. I don't know if a server would know, but a manager should definitely be able to find out.
I don't think I've ever been to a Chili's. Or is that Outback? Now I am confused.

I did the same thing! Haha. To be honest, I have a feeling that servers often say that something is vegan even if they don't know for sure, just so they don't have to deal with it... :-\ I'm not sure how secondbase found out about the Awesome Blossom being vegan, though. Maybe he wrote the company?

vegan or not, i can only imagine the amount of... methane... that dish must eventually produce.
isn't it funny how we're all disgusted by these stats, and if it turns out something might be vegan, we all have to try it now.
maybe we're just tired of all our healthfulness, and we want to dip our toes in the pool of heart disease.
