i hate my room mate - nvr
forgive me, but i need to RANT.
first off, she is loud with no considerations towards others. she is never alone/can't stop talking.
she leaves lights on all over the place, even when she leaves the house.
she is very very very messy. disgusting dishes, stuff all over the counters, her hair all over the bathroom (and i have never seen her cleaning).
she spends the whole day in the bathroom, when i get up (and i freaking need to pee) she is taking a shower (with a guy i might add... ugh), when i need to brush my teeth she is doing her makeup. i swear, i have shared a bathroom with four other people and have never had a problem until her.
she has some guy over every single night that i asked her if she was dating and she said no. lucky for me one thing that i can not hear is them having sex, but my other room mates can. and they do it at night, in the morning, you know, always.
she doesn't know what is recyclable and what isn't (and she doesn't ever take out the trash)
she never pays bills on time, never has money.
she smokes pot all fucking day long, the house always smells of bad weed.
... there is more but i need to go to class.
how easy is it to kick someone out? anyone done this to someone on a lease?
if they're on the lease i don't think you can do anything. but if they are breaking rules set up by the landlord the landlord can kick them out. if you can figure out a way to have the landlord kick her out you may be in luck. but then youd have to try to find someone to replace her without much warning which could be hard.
I'd suggest getting together with your other roommates and drawing up a set of house rules. Banning any illegal activity (pot smoking, of course) in the house should be #1 on the list. Chronic pot smokers somehow never seem to have any money. :D Some like my brother are so lazy that they don't ever lift a finger to do anything but pick up a joint. Your roommates and you should also work up a chore list assigning duties to everyone in the house especially including her. Then if she refuses to live by the house rules and do her share of the work, demanding that she leave is very reasonable. If the lease is solely in her name, then starting looking for another place to live as soon as possible and leave her to manage the rent and the cleaning on her own. It probably won't be long before she's out on the street.
Those first few sentences sound exactly like my roommate. LOUD, always talking, always complaining, leaves lights on...
I did try to have a meeting. I specifically didn't personally attack her, but suggested we set up quiet hours, a cleaning plan, etc. She was TOTALLY resistant to everything I tried to discuss and kept saying she didn't have time for that. Well...maybe if you spent less time complaining, you would have more time to do the things you need to do. Ugh.
Roommates are a fact of life I guess. I'm trying to do what I can to minimize my own frustration. I study in the library, wear earplugs, make it a point to turn out lights whenever I go to a common area...
It sucks having an inconsiderate roomate, I've had my share to deal with too. I think that you and your roomates should have a meeting with her and have your grievances addressed, but with a warning (not necessarily targeting her) about mutual respect. Her sex life you can probably deal with, but the messyness, and hogging of house resources you shouldn't have to.
Many times these sort of talks fall on deaf ears, but upon a second warning from you and the other housemates, you should probably go to the landlord. You definitely don't want to get accused of illegal activities because of her.
I've had multiple situations like this and it is truly a bitch. When sitting down for a meeting that person is always disinterested or defensive even if you don't single them out. Then they never follow the set rules. Then they always say something like "if you have a problem with me you should just talk to me about it." Yeah yeah blah blah, it's never true. Save youself the future bitchiness and move out. No, it's not fair that you should have to, but in my experience it's the simplest, least stressful way.

Who's apartment is it? Someone could be liable to the landlord I don't know who? Read the lease your rights on moving ,kicking someone out (their rights) and also ask the landlord about it.
I'm sure everything can be done but this is more important it has to be done the right way or you are going to have alot of trouble for yourself.
Report her to the police for the weed ::) It's what I'd do.
please forgive me for laughing at your pain. :-\
i know it totally sucks, but you recounted it hilariously.
its like the stereotypical "horrible roomate" situation. but for real.
ugh gross. you've got yourself a slutty pothead for a roomate.
i'm terribly sorry.
LOL ;D
Yeah sorry Hespedal - I've had some shocking room mates myself. I used to live with 2 girls (who also happened to be a couple) and uhhhhhh they were the worst. So grubby, would make a mountain of dishes and leave little notes for me "Miss J - Dishes need attention". They also had a whole bunch of "rules" that only applied to me. For example, no one can call you after 8.30pm, don't park your car in the driveway it's too noisy (I had a 1973 VW it was a bit loud haha), dont make a cup of tea in the morning because the kettle wakes me up, wait until we're all awake before showering because it's loud (sometimes this could be noon), you can't have friends over, oh and they ate all my food - This is the thing that pissed me off the most. I ended up moving out while they were both at work (they wouldnt let me be on the lease - this turned out to be a blessing) and left a message on their answering machine saying I wasnt coming back. They tried to call me and my mum told them I'd had a nervous breakdown. :D
aw man... that really sucks. I've heard some pretty bad roommate horror stories too...

actually, the lease is in all of our names. me and my other room mates found the house and we found her on line :-\. bad decision in retrospect. we have white boards on the fridge and i write things on there. i don't really think of them as 'rules' per say. but if i have to rewash everything in the dishwasher because it is disgusting and coated with shit, i will write 'please don't put food with particles in dishwasher' or if i find lights on i will write 'when you left you left X, Y, and Z lights on.' the only problem with certain rules (like quite hours like someone else suggested) is that if we made real rules i know we wouldn't all follow them, i mean, we are students. but it's that she isn't considerate about asking or realizing that people could have a problem with anything he does (she is just so blissed out all the time, if you get my drift ::)).
Oh my gosh. That is so horrible. I don't think you can do anything though, at least not very soon. But I agree with TinTexas that if you and your other normal roomates can get together and lay down some rules.
Is she in school too?
yeah, she's in school. does that make it better or worse?
Report her to the police for the weed ::) It's what I'd do.
would that just get her arrested? see my posts in the 'drugs' thread for that one...

ha ha. i am glad you thought i was hilarious. i am not very humorous, unfortunately. i don't even try, so when i am inadvertently funny... :::pumps arms::::.
and sorry CYETS, Miss Jones, and laura... poo on bad room mates they are hard (though, i do have one roomie that i have been living with for three years and she is the BEST)
Watch the Movie Full Metal Jacket. Then beat her senseless in bed with bars of soap wrapped in towels like the recruits did to Leonard Lawrence (Gomer Pyle). That'll teach her.
Hopefully she won't go section eight like Leonard did and treat you to a seven...six...two...millimeter. Full...metal...jacket.
I hope I don't need to tell you that I'm just kidding.
If she's in school, and being a total slacker, hopefully she won't last more than a semester. When is the lease up? At the end of the year? I hope an end is in sight.
oh, she is in school but we are all fourth years (or she is a transfer so she might have like 2 more years instead of 1), so yeah, she isn't going to drop out or anything. and the lease is until july '08. woohoo.

That part's funniest!

I love that movie. Especially the line "I'm going to rip your balls off so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world!" ;D

How about "I will motivate you Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo".
