I've noticed some birds hanging out on my deck lately. That's fine with me, they are nice to watch while prepping dinner (or lunch, or breakfast.) Anyway, I go outside to start up my grill, and I see a tangle of branches and grass! I thought the birds just hung around cause they could sense my vegan-ness and wanted to reward me for being compassionate. I guess they could tell that my grill is poultry-friendly?
Were they homesteading?
Sorry for a sad story, but just an FYI in case you find a family coming... We had a family make a nest and lay eggs in our covered grill a couple of summers ago (grill had openings on the sides). Unfortunately, I found when the babies hatched they died shortly after, I believe because the grill lid was closed and the temperature just got too hot inside it. :'( I was so kicking myslef. I had wondered about it, but if I left the lid open they would've had no protection from rain filling their nest or from neighborhood and natural predators (cats, owls, kids). I either keep the plastic cover on my grill now or leave the lid open to dissuade birds from thinking its a nice secure spot to make their nests now.
Oh, that is sad. That must have been awful to find. I hated to do it, but I cleared out all of their home-building materials. So they came back and started again. Now, I've got the grill completely cleaned out and LIT, so hopefully when they come back they'll decide this site is not worth the bother. They still have some time, I guess. Sorry, birds, but I want to grill my zucchini!!
lol, b4 my mom got a plastic owl the birds would build a nest in our mailbox. we have it right beside the mailbox. weve gotten a few ?s about it and when we tell them they say something like thats clever.
