philosophy project on virtues vs. values -- NVR
We're beginning our discussion on virtues and values in my philosophy class and I need to survey people of different age groups to see what their tops 3 values and top 3 virtues are.
For this project we're defining values (very loosely haha) as things which are important to us and virtues (even MORE loosely) as things which make people good.
Just wondering if some of you wouldn't mind volunteering this information about yourselves:) I only need like 6 responses to compare with my own. Values: peace of mind, justice, and health
Virtues: compassion, industry (as in industriousness) and thoughtfulness
thanks you guys :) and no, Cephi, they don't have to be ranked. he just gave us 3 as a number to give people some structure.
Values: Equality/Fairness
Compassion
Transparency/Honesty/Truthfullness
Virtues: Compassion
Motivation (or the opposite of laziness)
Respect towards others and all life
(And I'd rank Forgiveness right up there, too, if I could do four) :)
Values: Intelligence/education
Understanding (in all its forms)
Honesty
Virtues: can I say same as above?

when's your paper due? if not for a while then i can try to get a little older...

Virtues: courage, awareness, action (taking courageous action once aware)
My 14 year old daughter says:
Values: Family, Friends, Fairness
Virtues: Courage, Strength, Being Real (aka: being who they are)

That's because, duh, you've "captured" the age range. ;)
(And that was to cover for my not knowing how old cephi is.)
This is how I Sherlocked a consideration of his age:
1. Isn't he working on a doctorate?;
2. Some people can work on them for a hella long time, so he could be 42;
3. But since industriousness is one of his listed values, I'm guessing he's filled with vim and vigor and getting on with it;
4. That'd put him somewhere in his late 20s;
5. I knew you were in your late 20s, so you were the known quantity; therefore,
6. He'd be closer to you in age than to my 35.

I just emailed you. I'm 45 which means I'm old enough to be a lot of y'all's mother (if my son were alive he'd be 26) which ought to be a good difference. If the message bounces I'll try from my yahoo.
