The "SAY SOMETHING NICE RIGHT NOW" Thread
This is something I do with my children when they have been insulting or generally acting nasty to each other. I thought it would be nice to do it here. The rules are you have to say something
1. to someone you've never said anything nice to before (for whatever reason)
2. that is affirmatively nice
3. about that person
So, for example "jkl I really like how your screen name has three letters in a row" is not particularly affirmatively nice about me, whereas "jkl, . . . . " Okay, well, I can't think of anything, but you get my drift.
I'll start.
Yabbitgirl: I am really impressed that you are vegetarian in Spain. I haven't been there in many years, but if it's the same as say, fifteen years ago, I can't imagine a more veg-unfriendly place. You must have a lot of conviction. And I really like your posts.
*blushes* Thanks Firefightress and Hespedal! I didn't expect to be mentioned on the 'nice' thread. hehe *adjusts the Queen Bitch of the World Crown discretely*
I can not name names. Everyone here has their own blend of awesome insights, amazing recipes and bountiful personality to make this impersonal environment a community. Something that I know my every day real life lacks. You are all so special, wonderful and great! Thank you all for being here and sharing who you are with all of us. Much love to all of you!
Wow! This thread reminds me of writing in people's yearbooks & being able to compliment everyone you care about while also getting some nice little compliments back! :D
That is the sweetest thing ever, laurabs! Wow, what an insanely nice thing to say. :D I have so much respect for you, and always enjoy your posts very much. I love how determined you are to become an excellent baker, but I think it's so cute & endearing that you talk about how you aren't very good at it yet. I love your honesty & passion for veganism! And you are super-cute, too! :)
hespedal - I love your personality! All your posts make me smile
Jessacita - such a kind senstive person
Davedrum - I admire how you voice your opinion and stick to your guns!
Mdvegan - you are one well-informed vegan!'
I love the whole vegweb community here. I think we all bring something unique to this board!
luda blue - I didn't think anyone would notice me not posting here much, so I thank you for your attentiveness. You really brought a smile to my face by merely mentioning me in this thread.
limegreen - I think it's too bad you don't live in Alameda anymore because we could go on awesome falafel dates and run amok around Park St!
little2ant - You are definitely my favorite poster on this board. You bring maturity and a perspective that I devilishly love to endulge myself in. I just wish you'd post more frequently. Also, you were the first person to ever send me a message on this site and it made me feel special.
idioglossia - I know you've been busy in your own world with school and the chaos of life, but I love reading your reviews of recipes and your own peronal recipes (SWEET POTATO CROUTONS WIN MY SOUL!).
jkl I mention you last, but I owe a debt of gratitude as this thread is the only reason I've come to vegweb over the last few days. Thank you
I want to thank those who do things for animals or the planet who don't necessarily talk about it on Vegweb.
The quiet ones. The ones who go unnoticed. You all know who you are.
The amazingly kind-hearted ones who take in animals...but don't always speak about it because they are either shy, humble, or don't think what they do is such a great thing, though it is.
The ones that aren't always thanked. The ones who are not listed here because nobody knows the wonderful things they do.

(I just deleted some stuff I wrote out of an effort to try to be positive...but it did have to do with popularity contests and such...maybe you all can imagine what I wrote...ha! ha!)

I love how SB always speaks her mind.
But really, I agree with you, it is hard.... I spent a loooong time typing out just some of the people I could think of (mainly people who had been active on the boards in the last few hours, but there were more as well)... that are bound to be A LOT of people who don't get explicitly recognized. There are TONS of people on VegWeb, and to pretend everyone (even everyone of the frequent posters) will be talked about is inaccurate. I really hope that no one takes it personally, I have a feeling this thread might go on for a while and you are not forgotten. VegWeb does have a tendency to get 'cliquey' as some posters have pointed out, but hopefully we can all just be welcoming to those who are new and let them know how much we appreciate them. I think the real point of a thread like this is to get people thinking in a more positive way about everyone, and realize that there is good to be seen in all, not just those that think like us or befriend us.

Thank you Hespedal. You said it much better (and far more positively) than I could have. :) (By the way, I love how you speak your mind, too...I really do...Ms. Devil's Advocate :)).
In addition to what Hespedal has written so well...to be honest, if a thread like this is necessary, than I rather thought the point was to say something nice to someone you really never said something nice to or who maybe doesn't know you admire them (like I what I wrote to WorrmyWorm and BookMama--okay Davedrum already knew everything I told him...I just wanted to announce it I guess). Maybe even make a point to make amends in some way. Or point out something that is not often noticed. I mean everyone already KNOWS JessaCita is sweet and beautiful. ;) (It's true.) I didn't say anything about Hespedal, Tkitty, Meggs, Firefightress and so many others, because I think they already know how great I think they are (at least they should--you do right?!).
Let me set the example (please don't fall off your seats folks). Vigilant...I say this sincerely...I actually admire the fact that you have not left this site despite all of the opposition you have faced. You are very strong. And though I still wish you we could draw you over from the dark side ( ;D ;) I'm joking!!), I really think it's amazing that you have you stuck to your guns ( ;D no pun intended..okay, well maybe, it was intended...but it's funny, right?). Seriously, you are one strong chick. :)
Oh Shit! Hespedal.....YOU QUOTED ME before I got a chance to delete what I wrote!!!! That's stuff is supposed to be DELETED!!! Can you please delete what I wrote...please!! I'm truly trying to be more positive. I AM!!!

Noone said anything nice about me yet!!! :'( just kidding, I know I'm not as active on the board as many of you....
I want to use this thread to confess my most recent vegweb crush: Wormywyrm!!! :-* I love how he isn't afraid of the Diva thread and he has such funny innocent things to say. And he's pretty cute too! :-[
I also want to say positive things to "my girlz": Violin, pretty in punk, and ring of fire. I miss our chat hangouts. You are all very cool, nice people, and I am super impressed that you are vegans even though it can be hard for you esp. being so young & living with your parents. I feel the same way about chickpea even though we've never chatted.
I think most people here are really nice and I'm glad I found this board.

Dude, SB....lemme just say that I totally feel what you're saying about this "popularity contest" sorta thing...and I also agree with hespedal on how we can get sort of "cliquey" around here. Certainly none of us should feel obligated to compliment someone we know very little/nothing about just because they're being left out......but it's true that we should try and spread the love a bit more outside its usual confines.
And I like what you had to say about V20....I feel weird and kind of shy admitting this, but I'd have to agree with what you said. ;)
Oh, and I also want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you posting on here, giving props to the community as a whole. Some might see the blanket statement-type compliment as a cop-out, but really, I think everyone who contributes to this site in some way deserves credit for making VW the wonderful place that it is!
for instance, cznautique, vermillioncurls, and Skate_tastrophe all left positive and helpful reviews on my BBV* burger recipe....I don't know anything else about them, but I appreciate that a lot! (if you folks are reading this, THANKS so much for taking the time to comment!)
*Black Bean/Veggie burger....that was my abbreviation for it way before this whole gift package thing started...it struck me as funny, I guess.

you rock, don't ever change! <-- that's the ubiquitous yearbook quote ::)
and thanks for the compliment, jessacita. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
this thread is a great way to end a long, long week.

That's what I like about you =) Sometimes you're too candid for yourself! But I love truly honest people.
Baypuppy: she puts so much energy into this site! ironchef, bbvs, moderating... oh, and she has access to vegan pizza ;D

Thanks!! :)
FaunaBlues - thanks! Yeah, my honesty gets me in trouble all the time! ;D
Yeah, my honesty gets me in trouble all the time! ;D
i always think it is better to be honest than a lying poo head. i guess the goal is to be honest and not get in trouble!! (better than lying and getting in trouble, i suppose?)
i wanna give a shout out to all the queer veg*ns on here. i love how we're all able to be out on here, both in our veg*nisms and in our queerness. i'm not in the bizness of naming ya all, but you know who you are. esp my heteronormativity discourse friends.. i miss having you around!! you know who you are....
and thank you for all who support the diversity on here.
Seconded.
A big WOOP WOOP to all the wonderfully weird and wacky wegans vegans who've taught me that I don't have to aim for normality! YOU ROCK!! (Seriously.) Hail to the offbeat misfits, who somehow seem to fit in together...
I'd like to just say that you're all awesome. Every last one of you. Without you and without this board i probably would have let my friends/parents get me down. Even though I really don't post much, it's really nice to know that I have a place where I can "be" with other veg*ns, which I definitely can't in real life. ::)
To individual thank-you's....
owalkerjillo: I think it may have been y ou that posted the vegweb link on craftster so long ago. I think you're really nifty. Nothing specific; you're just nifty. ;)
Of course, Dave: When I first came to this site, you were helpful. Especially helping me find the nutritional yeast in Harry's. :)
I'd like to give a shout out to Lucidanne. Not only is she one heck of a chef, but she's also very positive, a blast to hang out with, and her posts make me laugh and put me in a better mood. Thanks for helping to make Vegweb an awesome place.
P.S. She's pretty darn cute too. :)
I finally checked out your photos....you have VERY pretty eyes...and, well, perfect eyebrows, IMO. and your Bella is a beauty, too!
:-[ Ahh...thanks. I'm all shy all of a sudden.
ShaolinBunny...thank you for thinking of me. You have a great sense of humor and can really liven up a conversation. You are very passionate and committed, and I'm glad that you are still here and kicking.
Thanks! :) :) :)

I'm with ya on this one, Courth......again, Iowa = meat enthusiasts = blah! It's so nice to have a place to connect with others on this particular part of my life...plus, getting to discuss many other different subjects with people of varying backgrounds and tastes, but who mostly all share this common thread! I mean, a few of my friends (including the bf) are vegetarian, but none are too gung-ho about veganism at this time. so yeah...
and some people seem to think it's "unhealthy" to consider online people as actual friends....pish posh! You're all just a different kind of friends...ones who I only communicate with electronically, but would actually be comfortable stoked to meet in person! I can't wait for my first VW potluck....and hey, I'd say I'm more open about some things (*ahem* Diva thread, ED stuff) with you kind folks than with many of my personal/IRL friends.

b-but...I'd like to join the heteronormativity discourse club, BP... *pouty begging puppy dog face* ...I may be somewhat of a n00b about some things, but these talks are of great interest/importance to me. And I absolutely love the insight you provide...you always get me thinking. :-*
I ditto what you said about the openness and diversity of this thread. Like I said above, we all can connect on some level, and still bring our own unique perspectives/backgrounds/opinions to the board. Heck, I'm a heck of a lot more open to hearing about opposing & differing views/beliefs on here (even if the discussions don't always reflect that)...and I know I can share great food stories, recipes, and tips with people who are *gasp* of a different political spectrum than I!! *dun dun dunnnn*
speaking of which.....
carrot_wench. I love how upbeat and energetic you always sound. Your deviantart gallery has some amazing photography too!
amazing, for realz? Thanks! I've had no formal education in the subject, and no fancy equipment (you may notice some poorly-lit and ugly shots in my recipe photos :P), but it's an ever-growing interest of mine. And I must say, you have quite a collection of top-notch quality photos yourself.
and yeah....I tend to use a lot of exclamation marks when I post here (haha!), and I try to keep things pretty positive. I think it's just the overall vibe of this place that sets me in the right mood....
...which brings us full circle & back to the fact that I LOVE VegWeb, especially these veggie love-fests!
:-* :-* :-*
SECONDBASE!!! i can't quote your earlier post b/c it is too far back (or i jsut don't know how) so i hope you read this! i really miss seeing you post around here and i want you to know i FANTASIZE abotu falafel dates in alameda with you. i really hope you make it down to the potluck and make some of that famous berry port sauce. i just realized it's sauce made with "the sauce" and it made me laugh. anyhow, we miss you around here
