How do I get a photo to appear as an avatar next to my posts?
On the left hand column, go to View your VegFriends Profile. Then on the top of the next page, in the middle under Modify Profile Settings, go to edit your profile, then one of the first things on the next page is upload (or manage) your main profile picture.

Allright!....I'll send and post new pics from the tour that starts in Europe next week....I'll post all the green pics they get of me. The tour after that....blue or yellow shots...who knows...by the fall...maybe I'll post black and white pics! :D ::)
thank you...blushing. When I am feeling sorry for myself, like when I found a curly coarse WHITE hair last week (I have a birthday this month and I feeling, well OLD) I just look at this picture and think about how good I looked at 43 and how it is going all down hill from there.
I am having age issues right now. I wish I could be as young as I feel. Youth is wasted on the young! I know that many of you here are young and I envy your enthusiasm and energy at a time when I wish I more of these things. I hope that young people, those in their teens and twenties, I hope you will find the strength, the enthusiasm and the energy to change the world for the better. If you are reading this, you are likely vegan / vegetarian, an important step in changing the world. May you live your lives with perpetual Grace.
I am young and definitely living it out as much as possible, but i don't feel comfortable enough to be responsible and "live" the way i want to live. i believe i will do that in my 30's when i'll go skydiving and take a year long trip to southeast asia and learn a new language and way of life. i'm almost 25, but feel like i've lived the life of an 18 year old. i have many years to come to fulfill goals and asperations

I'm 20 and have been through quite a bit for someone so young. Nothing seems to have the ability to quite crush my idealistic tendencies however, and I dream as anyone at any age might--big, very big. Perhaps the biggest is to dramatically alter the approach to healthcare in the West--the world even, and the smallest to create a self-sufficient wellness centered community that facilitates self-healing and recovery. I believe the former, in its fruition, could arouse changes much broader and far-reaching than its own end. Thought patterns need rearranging here, and the benefits that this could offer harbour the potential to solve world problems. I have been beaten down many times, and know I will continue to endure as much, but I will also continue to resurface with a stronger resolve and deeper optimism. No matter how pessimistic and cynical I may feel at any particular moment, I know that the capacity to heal this earth (on all levels) is inherent in the people who inhabit it. It starts with the individual, so I have only to remember: stay strong and serene and things will improve--you can't see the world as a beautiful, innately peaceful, harmonious place until you find it in yourself.
Thank-you for reminding us of Grace, sometimes we forget it's there waiting to be acknowledged.
All i have to say is WOW!!! I think you and I have the same problem Dragonfly, may I ask, growing up were you approached as 10-15 years younger than your real age? I am 27 though I have the voice of a 12 y/o and the accent doesn't help! (yes i still feel old) yet People are stunned and shocked to find out I am not 17-21. I got carded for white out( liquid paper) last week ( apparently you have to be 18 to buy it now in the U.S.) :o. I can say this, you give me hope that the only thing it could mean is that when I am 43 I'll look 30 or younger like you !
...glad to hear there are more people out there that often get mistaken for being way younger....joy... I am a primary school teacher and have been mistaken for the 'new student' rather than the 'new teacher'... cant wait till I am 50 and look 30!

CristaDawn...no I wasn't, not much after the age of 18. In those days, I wore A LOT of makeup. I don't so much now because makeup will not make you look younger at my age (47 on the 20th) but if you do it right, it can make you look more awake and so, a tad younger...maybe just not SO very tired!
What I had hoped, as I have grown older, was that my looks would fade a bit. I have never been a true beauty, but the red hair and big blue eyes have made me "striking" as my mom used to say. What I had longed for was not to be well preserved, but to gain inner beauty and have it exude through my pores and give my looks something they didn't have before. I happen to think that women in their 40s and 50s are gorgeous IF they keep themselves up. I think that is the time of life when a woman is her most beautiful, and I hoped I would have that. I find that I was gifted with this, which pleases me and my wrinkles and lines bother me less.
It should be said, that I dye my hair red...well redder than it is now. I felt faded out at 40, and thought even my eyes had faded out. Then, I discovered hair coloring! It is only about 2 shades off my natural color and only I can see my roots, but it pleases me. I colored up last night and my eyes were so much more blue today. I feel fresher and younger. Now, if I can just convince myself that I am not 5'4" and 250 lbs (I am 5'9" and I won't discuss my weight because I am vain).I have actually lost 20 lbs with the switch to my vegan diet again and I am feeling much MUCH better now.
As for Mrs. Mazz, you are a very pretty young woman! Idioglossia, every time I see your photos I think about what lovely big eyes you have.
Oh heck, we are all just such attractive vegans! LOL Davedrum, bald is beautiful. I have thought so since I was little girl. I am quite the connoisseur of bald and balding male heads, they always catch me eye. I hope the fellows I stare at understand it is appreciation and admiration.

Funny, I had hair down to my "butt" the day I left for college! But as I hit 30 I started to thin out on top (not too long after I first became a vege...hmmm...check for clumps of hair people)! I did not want to look like a "horseshoe head" or have one of those pathetic ponytails that men seem to grow when they lose their hair. (Why?) So, one day...I just buzzed it and it's been like this ever since. It was either do that or buy a really cheezy long wig and try to join a early 90's hairband on a reunion tour! :P :D.
I choose the first.....(no offense to those head bangers out there).
Another plus is I that can shower in less then 5 minutes, and think of all I save by not having to buy conditoner!
Secondbase.....as far as being your age and still feeling like you are living like you are 18?.....well I still feel like I'm 18...actually more like I'm 12. I'm still the same person...same wants, same fears, same insecurities, maybe changed my diet and other things....but inside....absolutely the same. I actually was probably more of an "adult" as an 18 year old then i was at 24 or 25. At 18 I was a poor college student....by 24.... an absolute mess. Now....I'm just a 36 year old mess (about to be 37 in a few weeks...uhg). But, I'm still the same idiot I was at 18 or 12....I just don't have the long hair! ;)
Dave, I don't know what circles you cruise around in (other than the music scene) but there ARE many women out there that are attracted to bald men. Like LadyDragonfly, I always have been, too. And I especially like bald men with beards. ;D
I think I stopped emotionly maturing in my 30s so it's a real shock to look in the mirror and see someone so much older. I, too, was probably more mature at 18 than I am even now.

I wish I had that problem. When I was 19 or 20 people thought I was in my thirties :(. Now that I am it has gotten a bit closer but people still guess 5 or so years older. They say it's because I act so mature but that doesn't make me feel much better. And since a really bad car wreck a few years ago I tend to feel older too. Oh well I still live an amazing life and am trying to fulfill most of my dreams and I keep meeting new and wonderful people at the right times. :)
Secondbase, when you decide to try skydiving let me know and I can point you in the right direction. I have been an avid skydiver for about 10 years now. There have been several internet scams and there are some disreputable drop zones out there and it is definitely buyer beware.

I am 18 and I definitly get treated like I was younger. I try to do a lot of political things in my community, and whenever I speak to officials they just look at me like I'm worthless! Probably because they don't think I'm old enough to vote. ho hum ::)
Recently I cut my hair to try to look a little older.....but I think it's the fact that I have braces.
I guess it is a nice problem to have, Taneveb, but it certainly has its moments... I used to live overseas by myself and I went into this shop and the shopkeeper told me off for some reason and as she chased me out of her store she said "children are not allowed to touch things"... hmmm... I was in my twenties!

Diver-di...it is the luck of the draw from the genetic pool I came from.
Actually, my maiden name is "Applegate" and the redhair was NOT a good thing. Ohhh LOOK she's got appleguts on her head! This sort of thing was relentless and it hurt. My mom had polio in 1952 and she is a brunette with olive skin and hazel eyes. I can't tell you how many times my mom was asked why she dyed my hair when I was growing up! That, or asking of my brother and I were adopted. When you team this up with the extreme sunburns and the freckles I had until I was 13, it was not fun. It was fully 35 before I liked my hair in any way, shape or form. I like it now and I consider that I am VERY blessed.
I had a saleslady help me not too long ago. She asked the question I have not heard since I was 11...WHERE did you get the wonderful red hair? ME: Out of a bottle. But even your eyebrows match! ME: Red eyebrow pencil. Your lashes are red too! ME: I shop on JustForRedheads.com But...your skin, your natural color must be close to red? ME: Well sure it is, I just kicked up the color a bit. Well...I would NEVER have guessed you dyed it. LOL I was laughing pretty hard because the question struck me, at 46, as utterly ridiculous!
AshleyKimball...I think it is extremely unfair that so-called adults treat young people as though they don't know anything. It is true, when you are 18 you have a lot of life ahead of you and you will learn a great many things. People forget, you ALREADY know a great many things. Not only that, but you have not forgotten your creative problem solving skills, as so many have. You have ideas and drive and best of all, you hate to hear NO for answer. Young people, especially teenagers, have untapped wealth of energy, creative thought, problem solving skills and wisdom, faith in the other people...so many things that could be so magical and transforming, not just for the teen, but for the entire world. Instead, we don't trust teens, we figure they are all doing drugs and not using their heads...it is not so. Perhaps it is this view that has made being mom to now 4 teenagers all at once, not all that difficult. I also remind them constantly of the wonderful things they are already and ohhh the places they'll go!
My oldest daughter is set to be valedictorian of her graduating class in May. I have never lectured her about her grades and I have never reminded her to do her homework. I only ever said, you will get the grade you work for. If you want a better grade, you'll have to work for it. It is your choice, not mine. Your grades are no reflection on me, only on you. So, while I can be proud of her, I am telling her to be proud of herself, she has earned it, I have not. From here on out, she can have and be anything, as long as she is willing to work for it. She has a full scholarship next fall and will be taking premed. She can't decide between being a doctor and vet, but either way, she will be awesome. (Sorry for the long post and shameless bragging.)
