topic search question

I was trying to locate an older thread (this time happening to be regarding what foods are poisonous/toxic to cats and dogs) and when I type in key words into the search box I always come up with no matches. I have tried it in the past with other Q and A topcs and unless it's regarding a common food topic, I can't find the threads I know are out there somewhere. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way to search for older threads??
If not, is there some new method Admin could possibly incorporate to successfully search certain Q and A topics??

I have similar problems with searching... I also have problems seeing the 2nd page of search results many times.
If I can't find the older thread I want through 'search' sometimes I have found it by looking around the date I last saw it active (if I can remember.)
I think the last round of changes (adding the slideshow etc) has caused several "bugs". I used to search for a topic and the results would show comments in the Q and A page as well...now they only pertain to the actual recipes, and you have to get the name of said recipe exactly right. Sigh.

Yvette (or other Admin), do you think there is some type of different format that can be added to help with easier searches both for "unknown exact-titled recipes" and for non-recipe related topics in Q and A?? :-\
