Winter Storm in the Upper Midwest!

eep! Where I am in Iowa, that big white blob is sending down a nasty mix of freezing rain...and it's only going to get worse throughout the day.
this nasty winter storm is expected to sweep across the areas of many of our VW friends here....
JessaCita and other Minnesotans
Vigilant20 and other Wisconsinites
Cephi and other Chi-town/Illinoisans
....and probably many others that I'm forgetting right now...
The forecast for my area:
SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE 2 TO 4 INCHES BEFORE THE TRANSITION TO FREEZING RAIN. ICE ACCRUAL ON TOP OF THE FROZEN PRECIPITATION WILL LIKELY BE HEAVY...ONE HALF TO ONE INCH...PRECIPITATION WILL TAPER OFF TO PATCHY FREEZING DRIZZLE AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT.
SIGNIFICANT ICING WILL CREATE VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DURING TODAY AND TONIGHT. IN ADDITION...A SOUTHEAST WIND GUSTING OVER 30 MPH WILL LIKELY DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES THAT ARE WEIGHED DOWN BY ICE. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR MAJOR POWER OUTAGES.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW... SLEET... AND ICE ARE OCCURRING. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. COMMERCE WILL LIKELY BE SEVERELY IMPACTED. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. ICE ACCUMULATIONS AND WINDS WILL LIKELY LEAD TO SNAPPED POWER LINES AND FALLING TREE BRANCHES THAT ADD TO THE DANGER.

I say the same thing about Michigan....and I have another 5 years on you. I'm trying to talk my twin into a move to Hawaii or Spain. Any place warmer than here!

It also snowed in the pacific northwest, and it stuck! That means something. Everyone, stay safe and warm.
It's been "raining" all night-- ICE everywhere. It's rather pretty on the branches of trees and bushes, but I can't even imagine driving in it.

Snow here in the Catskills this morning...the dogs are in heaven....some even refusing to come in. King is literally just laying in it and licking and eating it. Star is standing on top of a big rock outcropping waiting to pounce on the next victim to come by. It's amazing how they all turn back into puppies when it snows....
Ice tonight (or so they say).... maybe I'll stand on the corner and watch the idiots trying to drive down the very hilly curvy road that leads to town....I do hope that they have ice skate blades attached to their tires... :o
We got about 3 inches of snow here in southern Ontario over night. Right now it isn't doing anything outside. I am hoping that we don't get any more, or especially freezing rain as I have to go to the other end of the peninsula today & Jesse wants to drive :o I need a 'shaking in my boots' smiley.
My dogs also had a blast this morning. The puppy has never seen snow before & didn't know what to do with it. My older guy thinks he's a puppy when it snows & like Daves' dogs, he didn't want to come in.
.....goes off looking for a shovel......
We got a couple of inches last night as well. I got excited thinking I was going to go snowboarding at the mountain. Then I walked outside ...... too freaking cold for my liking :o
huh....well, the weather turned out to be a little less dramatic than the forecast made it out to be, at least in my county. Conditions are a little worse to the southeast of us, power outages included....but it looks like quite a few more people lost power in the southern part of Wisconsin.
Around here, everything looks pretty peaceful and lightly frosted with about an inch or two of snow....still makes me want to stay inside all day, but sadly I have to go out and brave the cold to go to work in about a half an hour. :'( What really stinks is that the winds are still between 20 and 30 mph.....AND, all the slush on the roads is going to turn to pure ice once the temp drops back down this evening.
Dangerous roads are not cool for anyone, but it's especially bad for those who barely even drive once in a blue moon (like me!), and HAVE to go out and drive on a day like today. I've got this community service thing I have to attend RIGHT after I get off work, and there's no way I'd make it there in time if I walked. bleh!

My part of Michigan didn't see much either--all bark and no bite! We just got a lot of icy stuff that melted of int the mornig--barely any snow to cover the grass :(

Here too. Mostly ice which made it fun cleaning off my car when I got out of work at 5 this morning. Had to come home and clean the ice of my steps, sidewalk and driveway. Didn't want my twin to slip and fall when she made it home.
Now it's major fog.
We got rain. Snow is mostly gone; rained away. Probably ice tonight but I think it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow so hopefully the roads won't be too bad!

Awesome! I'm real busy too right now so if it doesen't happen till spring/summe--no worries! If the weather is nice I'll show you around town too..hope you don't mind riding the bus :)
