Cheap Vegan Soap

I'm slowly veganizing some of the things in my house.  Just bought a plant-based floor cleaner today.

I was looking at the vegan soaps in the HFS today and they are over $3.00 a bar.  Sorry but Walmart has Dial on sale for that price and I can get six bars.

What do you guys do?  I used Kiss My Face for my face and it lasts long, but I'm looking for cheap vegan bath soap.  Is there such a thing?

Sorry if this is a topic that's been covered before.  I've been around a long time but haven't been an ethical buyer, but am slowly changing, maybe one product a week.

I buy bulk castile soap-- they even have some generic brand at a closeout/wholesale store nearby, so it is quite inexpensive. And I cut it with baking soda to make it a little exfoliating, since it's not a bar soap.

Trader Joe's!!!  They sell a 2-pack of their store brand for $1.29.  The Tea Tree Oil variety is vegan.  (They also sell an Oatmeal & Honey version - obviously not vegan).  We use them every day and love 'em!

Bulk Dr. Bronner's from the HFS, and there are these great soaps at my HFS that are only 79 cents per bar and have ground up almonds and oatmeal in them, they are made locally here in Portland, so perhaps not much help.

Dr. Bronner's is amazing.  I can't get it in bulk here, but I just bought a gallon which will last forever.  You can do everything with it.  I just now made laundry detergent with it.  It smells really good too (I got peppermint)!  I've heard people with short hair have pretty good results when using it as a shampoo...my hair is long and fine though, and it makes it greasy...oh toothpaste too!  There are so many options!  Anyway, you shoud check it out.

No Trader Joe's here, the HFS stores are thankfully still locally family owned, but awesome.

Dr. Bronner's looks good, but prices online are expensive.

Thanks for the ideas, keep them coming.

Yes, Dr. Bronner's is expensive, but seriously it lasts forever! I bought a large bottle (maybe a liter? Not sure...) of the peppermint kind that I use as a bath soap and I honestly can't remember when I bought it and it's less than half empty. It's really concentrated stuff. Oh, and it doesn't make my bathtub "scummy", so I guess I'm saving money on bathroom cleaner too  ::)

Dr. Bronners may seem expensive at first glance, but I guarantee that if you use it wisely even a small bottle will last ten times longer than a bar of Dial. They're not kidding when they say it's highly concentrated. I buy it in bulk from my local co-op and dilute it with about equal parts water when I get home, and I still only need a dash or two everytime I shower. I use the unscented version because I have sensitive skin, and it works wonders. Dr. Bronners also makes bar soap, but I can't vouch for that as I've never tried it.

Even if you can't afford Dr. Bronners, I've seen other brands of castile soap at lower prices, so keep your eyes peeled. I imagine they're pretty similar.

(by the way, Dr. Bronners also makes good bathtime reading material - pick up a bottle and you'll see why...)

I have used Dr. Bronner's bar soap, but I use the liquid now.  It works great, but is more expensive than the liquid concentrate.  It really does last a long time.  I bought a 16 oz bottle in June and still have about 2 oz left.  Like Junco, I dilute it with equal parts water, and put a couple drops on a washcloth or one of those shower puffs.

I used to use Dr. Bronner's but I'd feel sticky (well, tacky, but I didn't want to write that I feel tacky).  How do y'all get around that?

I thought I felt "tacky" too when I first started using it because I was used to soap-free body washes (not vegan) and the soap-ness made me feel sticky (bar soaps did the same thing). I dunno...I guess I just got used to it? I don't feel sticky anymore...

Hmm.  I've never noticed this.  Were you diluting it or using it full strength?

Perhaps I should dilute my Bronners...sheesh I'm lazy sometimes  ::)  I'm also cheap, too, but my laziness sometimes beats up my cheapness  :pirate:

Off and on for years we have used Chandrika Ayurvedic Soap (made in India). At our Whole Foods it is 99 cents. I love the way it smells.
