Kinda cheesy infomercial-style thing, but it's so much cheaper, and I have heard good reviews. Has anyone else tried this?
I loved the background music!!!

Any thoughts about a Vitamix replacing both a blender and a food processor? It's crazy pricey but maybe it's worth just buying the one piece of equipment that will last me.
Yep, replaces a food processor as well! It's great! Supposedly it's a juicer too.... but you'd have to strain the juice... which yes is a pain.... but if you don't have a juicer it's another added bonus. It is POWERFUL and can over blend your stuff so it does take a little bit to get use to. ie for salsa you put things in and literally flip the switch ON and OFF and you're done... more and you have soup! speaking of soup... it actually heat hot liquids more... for soups and chills cold liquids colder... for sorbets it's amazing and worth it! oh clean up.... all you do it put water and soap in and run the machine for 30 seconds! no parts to take apart and put in the dishwasher!

lol i ment without anything, you know I have learned that kids in africa sleep on the ground with no blankets, and may be eating by wild hyanius any night since there mud homes aren't very stable.
I hope that you consider the Peace Corp. when you finish school. That would be the best way to help those folks. I'm too much of a wimp. I started to say I'm too old but then I remembered that Lillian Carter (former President Jimmy Carter's mother) did a stint when she was already considered "elderly". But you could really make a difference in someone's life, if you choose to.

In the summertime, I could never do without my Magic Bullet. It's that little, miraculous, 1 serving blender on that UBERCHEESY infomercial. I got one as a gift about a year and a half ago and I would not have survived last summer without it. It's perfect for making 1 serving smoothies that you can blend right in the plastic mugs, so no having to clean up the blender + glasses. It also make super easy hummus, great for making small batches of salad dressing, guacamole, soups, etc. It doesn't even appoach the coolness and usefulness of the Vitamix, but perfect for singles and costs a fraction.
I've been curious about tortilla presses recently. I usually bake all my own bread at home, but have yet to make successful pitas and tortillas. Any suggestions/advice? On a quick search of the internet, I found plastic, wooden, cast iron, and cast aluminum models for tortilla presses....no idea where to start.....
Thanks!

I'm not real gadgety, but I use my Magic Bullet for smoothies all the time. It's great because I can make them individually for the kids and serve them in the same cup they are blended in. I'm lazy and don't like clean up. Also, I don't know if it's considered a gadget, but I LOVE my crockpot!! But...with all the rave reviews for the Vitamix, I may need to save my pennies!

The Yabbit's got a new toy--or rather "set of toys." Just came back from the weekly shop and had picked up an empanada press...I thought as the box showed just 1. $4 was kinda pricey but I am fascinated by certain toys, and was madly justifying the expense...well get it home and open the box and realise on the back of the box it says "set"...3 different presses in 3 different sizes, from large-ish ravioli size to individual Cornish pasty size. I foresee lots of "veggie pocket" creations this winter. Yes, you could deepfry them, but baking's probably healthier...can't wait. (I can't wait for the cool of autumn on general principles, but this adds to the expectation.)

oh I must have missed this thread. I seem to have a million "gadgets" but the ones I love the most (in no particular order) are:
* Mix-Master - my partner bought me a bright red one and I love it. I use it a lot but even if I didn't it just looks so pretty. *Kitchen Scales - I don't know what I'd do without them...I've been known to weigh the tiniest of things. *Bread Machine - okay. So it's cheating, kind of. But my bread always turns out lovely :) *Food Processor - makes life easy. *Juicer - Mum bought me this one. It proudly sits on my kitchen bench top, love it. *Mini-juicer - for fresh orange, lemon, lime juice - used it almost daily this winter. *Knife - it's a biggin. Does anyone else have a favourite knife? I do. *Rolling pin - for rolling/smashing things. *Bamboo Mat - Sushi...I could eat nothing but....dangerous. *uhh Frosty The Snow-Man Snow Cone maker - how did I end up with this? Well I don't use it but my partner's little ones bought it for "her" birthday and they love it so I guess it stays!

I keep forgetting to reply to this thread...
I love my dehydrator!!! I use it quite often.
Also, now that I have a food processor, I don't know how I ever lived without one!

I have soooo many gadgets. From my most treasured VitaMix to a cast iron 12" skillet to a 10 cup food processor to a food deydrator to a soy milk maker (never tried yet!).
On the list of things to get: attachments for pasta dough for my kitchenaid stand mixer, mini silicone brush and possibly a juicer.
Honestly though, I wish I had more counter space and recipes to utilize all my items more!
OMG! Ashley, those look absolutely fantastic!! I would not turn down either tray! ~slurp 8)
I've been wanting a Vitamix really badly, but then I saw this:
