tattoos - NVR

Just for fun  -  Tattoos...who's got 'em, where, and what of?  Who doesn't have one but wants one?  Myself, I don't have any but have thought about getting one for a long time.

Just curious :)

I have two kissing penguins on my left shoulder; although it's old enough for an update (15 y/o).  I'm not sure what I want to add to it...still thinking...

Will is in the process of designing a crank shaft (with other things) for his calf.

I have two - one on each hip.  Both a silhouettes of a fairy (black).  The one on the left side is lifting up a star (purple fading to pink); the one on the right is lifting up a moon (blue to white).
I was debating another for a while...I would like a tree on my back - a willow perhaps? - with some Elvish script. Yes..Tolkien Geek, here.  ;D

I have five, all on my back. In order of receiving...

-A blue rose on my lower back
-A blue butterfly on the top center of my back (between the shoulder blades)
-A white tiger above the rose
-A half-moon with scenery inside, containing another moon, a brown mountain, and sunset colors, on my right shoulder blade
-A sun with a sunrise scenery inside of it, including a tree, mountains, a river, and a pretty red sun, on my left shoulder blade

Looking back I can't believe how much money I've spent total at the tattoo parlor, lol. If I get anymore tattoos it will be a LONG time from now, but for the time being I think I'm finished. Tattoos are definitely like potato chips though, can't have just one.

Wow, these all sound so cool.  Post some pics!!!

I'm thinking of going with a celtic soul.  It is a symbol for freedom and independence, although my husband prefers to call it stubborness!  ;)    I just am not sure where to get it.

I also really like this one:

4.  Moon playing violin on inside of right ankle.

I like them but I don't have any.  I can't think of anything that I would want permanently on my body.  I know that a week later I would be thinking "that looks so dumb, why didn't I get...instead?"  I think of tattoos like bumper stickers.  I like looking at others, but I don't really want one for myself.   :)

I have, ahem, thirteen! Four stars (chest, arm, back), three swirls (arm), a mermaid (hip), a lotus (ankle), a "C" in old English style (chest), a Hello Kitty (arm), a butterfly (back), "choux" on the inside of my wrist (a French endearment...my little cabbage). Whew. I love tattoos!

I've still only got the one--an orange seahorse on my right shoulderblade, whom I've named Harpo.

The story behind it is actually kind of funny:

My sister's husband, Toby, had just gotten back from his first tour of duty in Iraq.  He'd planned on getting his daughter's (my niece's) name on his chest after my sister had done the same thing (tat #10 for her, I think) shortly after he left.  Well, by the time he got back, my sister had already gotten deployed to Kuwait (when my baby niece was only FOUR MONTHS OLD!  >:( ) Toby, we must note, is not a rough'n'tough army guy like you might suspect, having served (twice, actually) in Iraq--He's a TOTAL wimp.

Normally, he'd have had his wifey come along with him to hold his hand while he got inked, but that was not possible.  Still, he wanted to have this tattoo done before she got back.  So he pretty much begs wifey's little sister (me) to come along with him so he's not so scared, haha.  I was hesitant to go along, until he says, "Okay, I'll pay for a tattoo for you."  woohoo!  sure!

The half-hour drive to the tattoo place consisted of me desperately trying to come up with my own design--being an artist, I feel like I ought to at least design whatever I'll be wearing on my skin...but I couldn't come up with anything!  So I searched through a ton of the drawings at the shop while we waited, and finally decided on a pretty little seahorse...I had it altered from the original drawing somewhat, too, so that no one would have the same exact tat as I did.

My sister and I are planning on getting matching tats soon, to remember our dearly departed mum, whose only tattoo was a little rose on the right side of her chest.  I'm working on redesigning it to make it original, yet still commemorative.

My right arm is done in Celtic knotwork and the celtic dogs of war, got an eagle on my back and an angel holding a baby on my left arm.  Want more but waiting for the right design to hit me!

I have 3 - a tribal sort of design on my lower back (which I'm not crazy about anymore - I got it when I was barely 18), 3 stars on my hip, and a valkyrie between my shoulder blades.  (if you don't know norse mythology, valkyries are odin's battle maids that take fallen warriors to valhalla)

I've been itching for another lately, but I can't think of another place on my body that I want one - I like that mine can be easily shown or covered right now.

I have 3.
I got the first one when I was 18. It is on my right upper arm. It is a saber with a coiled snake and an attacking eagle over it; signifying good winning over evil. (thank god it actually worked out that way, I had doubts sometimes...)
The second one is on my left upper arm. It is three crosses at sunset with a crown of thorns around it. My young brother in law who was killed in an auto accident when he was 19 had this tattoo and was very proud of it. Somehow it keeps me close to him. *tearing up as I write this*
The third is over my heart, it is my family crest with shield and rampart lion with "Edwards" written on a banner below it.

I would never do it, but........the vegan symbol's cool if your going to.
The only thing...make sure you can cover it. I know people who have trouble at work over tattoos.

Mine is in what I consider a personal area, very easy to keep covered.  ;)

Its of a skyclad fairy. Dont know if I'll get any more...  to me it was very painful, could have to do with the location though.

Those with multiples:  Which areas would you say are the least sensitive?

I have 3 but want more  :)

I have 3 dolphins around my belly button
a sea turtle on my leg
and Japanese symbols on my lower back

I want a full back piece of a phoenix ~ that's gonna be mega bucks!  I guess I'm weird because I think getting tattoos is relaxing.  :D

I have a celtic spiral on my right inner ankle. 3 spirals to represent the power of "three", man-woman-child, earth- moon-sun, etc.

I'd like another on my lower back. A ying yang shape, only each half containing an image or outline of a fetus/baby, to represent my boys when they were in the womb.  But me thinks it'll be a while before I can find the time or money to get it.

I've got a small stemmed rose on my right shoulder blade with my first and middle initials that I got when I was 16.  It needs re-inked at this point but still looks ok.  My twin and I would like to get a matching one but so far haven't made down to the tattoo shop.

Only two so far though I would love to add to my first.  That is a small blue dolphin on my inner left ankle.  Easy to hide and wont sag with age unless I get cankles or something, hahah!

The second is a Buddhist Eternal Love Knot in a pale purple on my right shoulder blade.  I love it.  Though it hurt badly.  Actually both did.

curse being underage! i do have a few idea's though. i want the misfits skull symbol or a koi fish on my foot. i also think that getting an egyptian ankh or some other symbolic symbol on either your wrist or ankle would be neat.

Funny story to go along with the misfit topic.  For my birthday my mom found a pair of shoes that she thought I would like mainly because she thought they looked cute because they had pink polka dots.  So she sent me my present and when i opened them they were Misfits Vegan slip on shoes!!  So i called her and said thanks mom ( picture the whole conversation in Spanish) But did you realize that these shoes are from a band called the misfits and the shoes are  also vegan!! and she said I just liked them because they look cute.  I was like wow thanks mom if you only heard the music this band plays it might have changed your mind about buying them for me... it was so cute that she randomly chose shoes that were 1) by the misfits and 2) vegan hahahah...moms are so dear :)
