1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
2 cups nondairy milk (I use soy)
1 tablespoon cornstarch or flour
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chives or oregano
salt and pepper, to taste
1. Mix all ingredients in a pot.
2. Whisk constantly while you bring it to a boil, then quickly bring it back down and serve hot.
3. If you don't want a creamy tomato soup just add 2 cups water instead.
The ketchup is what makes it truly taste like it came from a can. Of course, you don't have to add the ketchup; I just had a craving for canned tomato soup!
I'm sure you could also use tomato paste if you wanted. Just mix it with equal parts water, then whatever that amounts to, add twice as much nondairy milk.
