I wanted to start this thread to be all about our pets. Ask questions, help answer questions, tell a funny story about something your cat/dog/ferret/bird/rat, etc did, update everyone on your pet's health, tell us about a new pet, vent, grieve, laugh, etc. I know I'll be posting here a lot and I hope you'll join me!

I have had two beautiful girl kittens for 4 months.
Tonight....I realized one of them was a MAN!!!
O. M . G. :o
we have 2 sister kitties and raise them as boys. i'm sure it won't matter ;)
hehe it doesn't matter, I was just taken aback ...I was like..."oh. That would be a penis." Luckily he never really responded to his name (Lucretia) So It's not a big deal if we change it. Maybe we'll find one he likes better. But I was not expecting to see all that.

I raised my beloved Saul as a dog. If you don't tell him, he won't know.
My vet was always startled that Saul not only obeyed, but would "stay" on command.
hehe! that's cool..... I actually think both my kittens are boys...... It's just so hard to tell in kittens, but they're developing more and that's what it seems! So you think I should keep their names Lucretia and Delilah or change them?

What's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? It is neither head, nor foot, nor leg, nor....any other part belonging belonging to a man.
(Juliet was hip, you dig.) ;)b
It doesn't matter what you name your cats, they won't come when they're called anyway.
actually Delilah does. When I call *him* he meows and comes running. It's adorable :)>>>

My Monk does exactly the same thing.....the dogs on the other hand usually only come when there is a promise of a treat ::puppy:
So I finally got Wilma eating canned food pretty consistantly. She doesn't eat a lot though. I mix tuna in with it. She loved tuna so much it's the only thing she wants to eat. She won't eat her food without it now. My question is, is it ok to keep putting some tuna in her food? Is it bad for her to have a little tuna daily? I tried sardines and she just turned her nose up (some cat) and I've tried chicken and it just doesn't excite her as much. I've created a monster.
Has anyone heard from mdv?

hehe Dini comes when you say his name. Molly on the other hand, ignores," Molly, come here...Molly! Come!" But will answer to, 'HEY! Get over here!" So I guess she thinks her name is Hey. It's an improvement over thinking her name is No. ::)
Yes, Dini is Smooch's dog and Molly is "mine" I get reminded of this daily. But the cat is his. And the cat dosen't listen to anyone except his food bowl filling up.
i am having a serious freakout!
we discovered yesterday that our cats have fleas and i had some 'natural' flea medicine on hand that has things like peppermint oil, citrus oil, and TEA TREE OIL in it. i didn't know until TODAY that tea tree oil can make kitties DIE!
they haven't been acting too weird or anything, but i want to go home and wash it off of them IMMEDIATELY. omg omg, what should i do? i'm terrified that i've harmed my kitties, when really i was just trying not to put chemicals on them. has anyone else had any experience with this?
and how do i bathe a cat?
oh oh... i hope they're ok. :'(
mdv - thank you. i will try bathing kitties tonight. we don't have a sprayer on our sink, so I might put them in the tub. they're always getting in the tub after showers anyway, so maybe they'll like it ok. plus i can shut the door to keep them in there.
i'm glad your tony is doing well!
eta: what kind of soap do you use for the cats?
Awesome news! I'm happy to hear that Tony is feeling better.
So tonight I notice that Wilma had a dark spot under her chin. I looked closer and it was a scab with a red sore under it. I checked her mouth and it looks like the tooth right above the scab is red around the gum line. If she had an abscess in her tooth would she get a sore under her mouth like that? I left a message with the vet to see if I could bring her in tomorrow. I'm really concerned now. But she is not acting any different
Not necessarily. It could be that the wound or whatever is infected and affecting the tooth.
Saul had a dark spot and scabs and it turned out to be some sort of allergy reaction thing to rubbing his face on my potted plants. At first I thought it was just dirt. Got some cream stuff from the vet and it cleared right up.

Swweeeeet. :)>>>
The vet is not in for the holiday weekend but the receptionist called me back. I cleaned the area under her chin last night with peroxide (after I took the picture). After the dried blood was cleared away it looked like a little pimple underneath. Her tooth is not sore and the area around it is red, but not swollen. She doesn't have any pain when I touch the tooth or her chin, and she is eating fine. So I don't think she has an abscess. The vet office gave me an appointment for Tuesday and told me to keep an eye on it.
mdvegan. wilma doesn't go outside. what is a warble?
So, I've been glancing at this thread now and again and its mostly about kitties (which I love), but I'm having a doggie problem.
Bella was at daycare on Wednesday and when I picked her up she was fine. Some nap time later and a walk showed otherwise as she wasn't placing any weight on her back left leg. Personal investigation showed her very inner toe on that leg was hurting. Thursday I called in sick to take her to the vet. X-rays showed no tears or breaks, but it is still swollen and she is still limping. I feel so bad for her. I gotta take her in Tuesday (after the long holiday weekend) for a follow up, but I'm still nervous. Can an x-ray miss a break? Do you think she might have to get it wrapped or cast or whatever?? :'(
She may have caught it on something, or there may be something in it...like she trod on something small, a piece of glass or metal or something. I just got a tiny piece of metal off my kitchen faucet somehow, and it took me awhile to figure out why my thumb hurt. It was hard to even see it to get it out.
Somebody should have a good look at that toe with a magnifying glass just in case she's got something in there that's infecting.
