I wanted to start this thread to be all about our pets. Ask questions, help answer questions, tell a funny story about something your cat/dog/ferret/bird/rat, etc did, update everyone on your pet's health, tell us about a new pet, vent, grieve, laugh, etc. I know I'll be posting here a lot and I hope you'll join me!

poor kitty..... :'(
I hope everything goes ok....I can't imagine.....
Let us know
((monk)) kbuettne or mdv probably know.
Sending my love for Monk....hope he gets better soon.
I would recommend taking at look at Dr. Picairn's book and switching Monk to an all homemade/raw diet if he won't eat canned food. The dry food really is only going to aggrevate the problem. There is a whole section devoted to bladder stones, dietary recommendations, supplements, and homeopathics. If you want me to send you more details from the book (so I don't clog this thread) shoot me an email at kimberly dot buettner at gmail dot com.

Thank you so much. You're an angel. :-*
Hope Monk gets better soon.
Monk spent the entire day at our vet clinic. Dr. D said his condition was severe & that he should be dead. They inserted a catheter, gave him IV fluids & pain meds...took blood work, x-rays & god knows what else. They did all they could for him there but because they are just a clinic, they couldn't keep him overnight.
It was hard for me to bring him to the animal hospital. For one thing, it's not in town. I live on the north shore of Lake Erie & it's on the south shore of Lake Ontario. Also, if Monk was going to die, I wanted to be with him. But I said before that I refuse to believe that, so we bundled him up & drove him to the animal hospital. Dr.D had sent a report ahead of time, so they knew what to expect when we got there. They ran more extensive blood work while we were there & the results were scary. The vet told us what they were testing, what normal is & what Monk's results are. He was way over the top on all of them....by hundreds & one test was 1500 when it should have been 200 at the most. His immediate danger is his potassium level. With flushing his system, it is hoped that it will come down & stay down. His electrolytes are totally messed up which is scary because it could lead to cardiac arrest. Once all that has been brought down to normal, then we have to worry about his liver & how much damage has been done to his kidneys. He most likely will have permanent kidney damage. This Dr. also said, it's a wonder he survived.
The quote that they gave us is a lot! but like I told the Dr., Monk fought hard just to live so we could get him there, so now we have to fight to keep him alive.
They let us go in the treatment room to say good night to him & he already was looking better. He responded to my voice when I called his name....he looked right at me
I can't believe how fast this happened & I am so upset that I didn't recognize it immediately.
kb & mdv, thank you for the book recommendation. I have to get a copy.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts.
(((HUGS))) from Monk & all of us here.
Poor Monk :( How old is he, jessesmum? Sending good vibes up north to you guys!
On the 24th of next month, Monk will be 5. He's got age on his side right now.
So glad hes feeling better, sounds like hes still got a way to go, but, at least hes on the right road to recovery. Try not to beat yourself up for not noticing sooner, I've been in a similar situation with one of my horses, and I broke my own heart just thinking about it, but you have to forget about it and concentrate on helping him now. ((((( HUGS))))) to you all x
I got a positive report from Dr. Schneider this morning. His potassium is slowly coming down, his EKG has improved, he has good urine production & he is a little more active. He is lifting his head now.
Dr said he still has a long way to go but she is encouraged.
I know what you're saying begbie but honestly, I won't feel better about it until Monk is home & well.
So glad you got a good report this morning! Way to go, Monk!
Aww, Jessesmum! I almost cried reading your post! Pouncival and I send our best wishes to Monk for a steady recovery.
*big hugs for you & Monk!*
You're absolutely right to believe he will survive. He needs hope and even though it's tough when things are scary, hope is what we'll give him!

Go, Monk! ((jm))

I know you won't, I didn't when Brydie went to hospital for an operation. She should have come home 2 days after, but with complications, she was there for nearly 3 weeks. It's heart wrenching. I'm so glad that the last report you've had is good news. Hope hes allowed home soon xx
When I talked with Dr. Schneider this morning, she said that they hadn't done the latest blood work & to call back this afternoon. So when the phone rang just as I was leaving for work, I got a lump in my throat.
Monk's kidney values have all returned to normal! They took the catheter out early this morning & he was peeing on his own. She was worried that his bladder muscles might have stretched too much but the way it looks right now is, it's working!
He isn't eating & that doesn't surprise me at all. He is so fussy & he's a little p'oed right now too so he is on a tube feed.
So that is all the good news....the GREAT news is that if he maintains everything as it is now, he might be home tomorrow. I can't wait to see him :)>>> Stu misses him too.
This has been so hard on me & I know I'll burst into tears when I see him....happy tears this time.
Aww! Monk rocks! I am so happy for you! Give him some extra hugs and kisses from me.
:-*
Sooooo glad to hear your good news, hope he can go home soon, bet you're on edge just waiting to fetch him home xx
Cry into his fur and give him kisses. It'll throw him off of his be-as-annoyed-as-possible-for-her-leaving-me-with-the-vet game.
:)>>> :cat2:
Great news! I hope he gets to come home soon!
