Cafe Culture
Cappuccino
Pecan Streusel Coffee Cake
I always make this without the nuts in the streusel part...it's my sister's favourite coffee cake! I think that it is okay (there is one that I prefer from the La Dolce Vegan book) but it's pretty good. (dannibazaar)
Citrus Scented Blueberry Muffins
just what I needed. I had a bag of mixed berries so used those instead of blueberries. My batter was a bit dry but I've been having that problem with several things recently- my flour maybe? So I added a bit of lemon juice from the naked lemon this recipe left me with. I used canola oil but she suggests using coconut which I'm sure would be absolutely heavenly. My muffins took the full 20 minutes to bake but they had that deliciously tender inside that tasted like there was a much higher fat content than there actually is (I think the soy flour is to thank for that?). (owalkerjillo)
I love them. I didn't have any soy flour, so left it out (only in tablespoon). I loved these, not too sweet and only use 1/4 cup of oil - yeah (katzenfreund)
Double Apple Cake
I really liked this. I thought it was spiced very nicely, without being overbearing. It was a very moist and delicious cake. (disneyfav)
Crepes with Almond Sauce and Fresh Raspberries
Cherry Chocolate Chunk Scones
These are good tasting but I wasn't crazy about the baking method. The dough is formed into a 7 or 8 inch round on the baking pan, sliced into 8 sections, then re-sliced after baking. The dough kept sticking to my knife during the first slicing, and when I sliced them the second time, they broke apart a little bit. Also, these browned up really fast in the oven, but I felt like the insides could have used a bit more baking time. I think maybe I would lower the oven temp next time, and keep them in a bit longer. I would also try forming the dough into individual scones instead of slice and bake method the author uses. (peaceablepalate)
Def Jam Bars
I had originally planned to use the sugar cookie dough to make these. Unfortunately, once I mixed it up, I realized that it wasn't going to be enough to make the bars. The author said only one batch of sugar cookie dough would be enough, but when I tried to spread it out on my cookie sheet, I couldn't make it work. I would say doubling the recipe would be appropriate for making the bars. (peaceablepalate)
I had the same trouble ^...I wished i could have made them work, but that never happened lol (dannibazaar)
Pumpkin Spice Baby Bundts
Jackfruit Banana Smoothie
Bubble Drinks
Berry Tart
Raw Klava
Go To Zucchini Bread
Vietnamese Inspired Tapioca Pudding
The taste was okay, but the texture was kind of gummy, (though that may have been user error with the tapioca,) and I didn't like the greyish color mine turned. (disneyfav)
Brownie Bites
these were huge crowd pleasers but weren't too.. brownie-y. They were more like semi-sweet mini chocolate cupcakes but I frosted them with chocolate ganache and raspberry jam and they were super cute and yummy. (owalkerjillo)
Good, but I prefer brownies any old day. They would be good at a party though. Just to rich to just have around. (dannibazaar)
Real Hot Chocolate
Chai
Coconut Lime Bars
Punk Rock Cakes
Quick Berry Jam
Political Biscotti
I make these without the dates, but sometime I'd like to try them with...I like the combo of carob and chocolate. (dannibazaar)
Blue Mosque Ayran
All Night Breakfast at the Diner
Better Than Buttermilk Pancakes
Chocoholic Waffles
Orange Poppy Seed Waffles
Deconstructed Monkey Bread
Blueberry Banana Bread
it's sweet, but not too sweet, it's moist, with slightly crispy edges, oh, and it's the perfect thing to cure your banana bread craving. In fact I'm noshing on some now. It's perfect with a little bit of EB, too. (brittanynightmare)
Shitake on a Shingle
Coco Manda Muffins
English Muffins
Raspberry Swirl Pound Cake with Limoncello Glaze
Blueberry Grunt

Really yummy! I made it a second time with cranberries instead of chocolate, and that was very tasty too. (disneyfav)
Alternative Granola
Cran Apple Oatmeal
Breakfast Burrito
Easy Cornmeal Scrapple
Quiche Du Jour
Finer Than Diner Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Made without the raisins...totally freaking awesome!! Super easy to make and the cinnamon swirl is so cute! (dannibazaar)
(A La Recherche Du) Pain Perdu
Must be I'm just not into this sort of thing. My mum liked it a lot, but I just didn't like the texture. Taste - yes, but other than that the mushyness gave me the creeps. (dannibazaar)
Roasted Red Pepper and Onion Frittata
Lunch Cart
Sloppy Joes
Smoked Paprika Hummus
Rapini Panini
Seitan Sandwich Spread
Philly Portobello Cheese Steak
Wasn't a fan of this. Chopping up all the ingredients makes it kind of a messy sandwich. I'd rather do slices of portobello and veggies. Probably won't make again. (kristinv)
Sandwich Mousse
Fruit Salad with Sabayon Sauce
Wheat Free Soft Pretzels
Good. I like the recipe from AVK more though. These aren't really that soft. (dannibazaar)
Honeydew Pomegranate Jigglers
Pan Bagnat
Elegant Lunch Sandwich
Homemade Whole Grain Tortillas
Lunch Muffins
I love these! I change up the spices and stuff sometimes, but always use pesto as the base for flavor. They're really tasty and easy to make. (disneyfav)
Chickpea Chili Burgers
Portobello Burgers
Tomato Pie
Baked Potato Bar
Tuscan Braised Beans
excellent. (DrFood)
Very yummy, quick, and easy. A nice addition to an Italian-themed meal. (dannibazaar)
Really good and super easy to make. (kristinv)
Grilled Cheese and Bananas
Minty Mediterranean Salad
Soup Kitchen
Pumpkin Daal Soup
It was pretty tasty, mine cooked up faster than she said it would but it was incredibly rich and filling, a perfect fall soup. I've never been one for perfectly creamy, smooth soups so the chunky lentils and caramelized onions in this one really appealed to me! (owalkerjillo)
Hot and Sour Coconut Soup
Babci's Polish Mushroom Soup (Zupa Ze Swiezych Grzybów)
Roasted Root Vegetable Soup
Green Goddess Soup
Italian Wedding Soup
Enlightened Vegetable Barley Soup
Chilled Zucchini Soup with Dill
10 Minute Corn Consommé
Hearty Adzuki Bean Soup
I was looking for an all-pantry soup to make when I came home from vacation. This hit the spot! This is an earthy, filling soup with sea like flavourings with the kombu (I usually remove kombu when making beans, but this time I actually pureed it right into the soup). It was really thick as written with 6 cups of broth (it could be a nice bean dip at that stage), so thin it out afterward to your desired consistency. Do not skip the toasted almonds, as I really think it made the dish. (blinknoodle)
Nasi Goreng Soup
Cameroon Mafé
Clara's Pasta e Fagioli
This was good, but my daughter thought it needed a bit more "oompf" so I added red pepper flake, spinach, patty pan squash and some extra broth to make it soupy and she has been loving it for three days now. (storm)
Regina's Red Beet Soup
Smoky Split Pea Soup
Quinoa Soup
Island Gumbo
Tunisian Soup
Feijoada
Potato Leek Soup
Six Flour Dunkin Bread
DIY Stock
The Melting Pot
Modular Pakistani Kima
Moroccan Millet Timbales
I forgot to put the chopped black olives in, but she loved them....she must have, she ate three! So easy to make. She also staged the photo because boring mum was just going to plop one on the plate. I used spray oil on the muffin tins and it didn't stick at all. They came out nicely after I loosened the outside with a rubber spatula. (storm)
Welsh Rarebit
Yum!!! Makes a lot of cheese sauce, so I drizzle any extra over steamed veggies on the side. (kristinv)
Curry Cashew Casserole
so delicious. Super saucy though, I think I might drain the tomatoes next time but, the cashew curry sauce was super simple and super delish, I'll be using it again I'm certain. Also, this recipe made A LOT and I'm freezing some, I'm always psyched about leftovers! I added the optional squash and half of a red pepper and I would highly recommend those additions as otherwise it might be too boring.. broccoli, garbanzos and some sauce. (owalkerjillo)
except it was curry-peanut, because I had no cashew butter, so I subbed peanut butter instead, but I can't imagine it being any yummier then it was. (disneyfav)
This turned out yummy. I went to two different stores for cashew butter, but at both stores it was about $11.00 a jar! So I ended up making my own cashew butter which was really easy, although I think I might have added just a tad too much oil. The recipe called for 2 Tablespoons of basil, but my windowsill plant only yielded about 1 tablespoon. I love basil, and would have enjoyed more, but we work with what we have, right? A previous poster mentioned that she found the extra juice from the canned tomatoes provided a little too much liquid, so I left it out, and just added a little bit of it to the sauce. I also added some thinly sliced carrots, and some minced garlic. I served my casserole over noodles because that's what I felt like eating, but I think it would be yummy over rice. This dish was easy to make, and I would likely make it again for a work night dinner. (peaceablepalate)

Pan Fried Plantains
Eggplant Parma
Fettucine Alfredo
Farfalle with Fennel
Spicy Udon Noodles
they were tasty. I had to add a little extra Bragg's and a little extra red pepper, but I also have a sinus infection so it may have been perfectly spiced and I just couldn't taste it. The directions were straightforward and easy to follow. (bellybellygood)

Brussels Sprouts Au Gratin
Chickpeas with Tomatoes and Spinach
one of my go-to meals when I want something yummy, healthy, and that takes very little effort on my part other than chopping up an onion, slicing garlic, and opening cans. If I pick up some spinach on the way home, it's a mostly pantry dish as well. I do use one big 32 oz can of tomatoes, however, instead of mixing fresh and canned since it A.) makes it easier and B.) most of the year fresh tomatoes are expensive and tasteless. I usually serve it over whole wheat cous cous. Since there are just two of us at home, it also makes lunch for the next couple of days as well. (katequeenofsprouts)
Tricolor Quinoa
Porcini Quinoa with Cauliflower and Toasted Pecans
The reason I chose this to make first is because I was looking for an all-pantry-item dish that I could make when I had no fresh produce. It is really simple to make, very quick cooking (15 minutes), and has a nice depth of flavor from the dried porcini mushrooms. All in all, very impressive dish considering it all came from the pantry! (I used frozen cauliflower - she says you can use fresh or frozen, and I don't think fresh would have made a difference). I can't wait to try some more recipes! (lebkuchen)

Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake with Caramel Sauce
Layer Cake (For Special Occasions)
Ninja Ginga Bread
All Purpose Sugar Cookies
Easy and adaptable. Nothing too special, though. (dannibazaar)
This is a great-tasting sugar cookie - crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. I was a little skeptical that these were going to turn out well, because when I tasted the dough, it had a strange metallic taste which I attributed to the soy flour. However, after baking the taste was no longer noticeable. I had originally planned to use the sugar cookie dough to make another recipe in the book called Def Jam Bars. Anyway, great sugar cookies! (peaceablepalate)
Chocolate Mousse
Peanut Brittle
Tira Mi Su, Perfected

I wonder, is there anyway to combine this with the other Urban Vegan thread that was started October 2009? It seems silly to have two. There are also two for several others.

All of the reviews have been added. Those don't have a compiled list, but I search and add reviews to the lists when I do them.
I guess I just like having all the individual reviews with their pictures all in one place. Oh well. What can you do?
Hmmmmmm. Pictures in the review list sounds like a neat idea, but a bit overwhelming to look at! At least all the reviews are in 1 place, right?
To be honest when you've made "official" threads, I've been disappointed that my pics (like in the Indian thread) and others got bumped down. That said, I know what hard work it is to make an "official thread" not only putting all the available recipes down, and then adding the reviews.
I seriously like the official threads because I can quickly find a review in the first posts.
You can't please me. LOL
Great job AC. You totally rock and don't change a thing.
You mean the old threads getting bumped down? You are welcome to bump them back up!!! I will add the reviews to lists if they are posted in the other threads. I just know that I don't go back through the review thread pages looking at reviews/pictures. I just look at all the reviews together, but maybe others go back to look at pictures!
eta: not to say that I don't love looking at the pictures when they are first posted! I just don't go back through to look for pictures.
Would anyone like to send me the Spaghetti Alle Melanzane (Spaghetti with Eggplant), Spaghetti Carbonara, or your favorite recipe from this book (or Celebrate Vegan)? Thanks!

A bunch of recipes are online through Google books, but not those unfortunately. I have earmarked the Tuscan Baked Beans based on the reviews, though. Let me know if you want the raw baklava recipe since I already typed it up.

Yeah, I did actually look at the google book and amazon look inside earlier. A lot of the pages on the google book won't load for me. : \
eta: Ok, the bottom pages loaded for me now (didn't want a bread or dessert). If nothing else, I'll just do the hummus recipe, or maybe the beans. I found one interesting on her website, as well.
Sorry about that! I didn't get the desserts when I loaded it.. I got the lunch and soup section. ;)
I sent you the spaghetti with eggplant recipe, though.
I have also bookmarked her injera recipe, but I don't think that's in her cookbook: http://girliegirlarmy.com/blog/20100607/ethiopian-collards-on-mini-injeras/
