I must admit, this is the one area where I make exceptions. I've tried the vegan condoms ... and, well, they weren't anywhere near as great as my preferred "Beyond Seven" brand. Not in terms of protection (I'm sure that's the same) ... but in terms of thinness.
I'm thinking of just getting a copper IUD, and doing away with the latex. Obviously, that only works if you're in a monogamous relationship.

I think polyeurathane condoms are vegan, but they are more expensive.

condomi brand are vegan. they're even approved by the vegan society! and it seems they even come in all kindsa mysterious and exciting flavours like apple, coconut, and tutti fruity, lol. they're german, but they meet very strict international standards. you can buy them online, and they're not expensive.
when it comes to availability, i'm of the school of thought of 'needs must'. i'd rather someone use a condom with casien in it than risk some horrendous STI or accidental pregnancy. casien wins hands down in my books, when the available alternatives (or lack thereof) increase the risk of dealing with wonderful treats like chlamydia and c-sections further down the line. *shudders*.
of course, there is always the 'keep it in your pants' option?! ;D

Ok, I agree-condoms are necessary and useful and EVERYONE should have access if they're going to even think they need one! But this thread made me laugh today--coconut condoms...the mind boggles. The mental images are...well...I lead a sheltered life... ;D
It's in the latex processing, I think:

They use casein, I think.
yes indeed, casein
Vegan Essentials has vegan condoms.
