What do you all think of it? I won't lie. I've looked at a fair amount, mostly out of sheer curiosity, "do these girls actually like doing this?" and "guys actually love looking at this stuff" type looking. I really hope real sex isn't like this (I'm a virgin) and that guys don't expect girls to do that type of stuff in real life.
I don't know, I don't want to do my whole rant, because I'm sure most of you will say what I want to rant.

I admit that I don't have anything new to add here. Like KMK, I think that pornography is just another way of sexual expression. In that industry, you sell your body just in the same way that in other industry, you sell your mind (sometimes your soul, if there is such a thing). You do it for money because it services a certain need in society. And I'm sure a lot of pornography workers really enjoy their job. I know there are many cases of abuse that needs to be dealt with. I think we should put a stop to human trafficking, child pornography, etc. (I'm being really optimistic, I don't think I will ever see the end of this as long as I'm on this earth alive.)
However, most people who get into the porn industry are consenting adults. I'm tired of the victimization of women in the porn industry. A lot of them are smart women who know what they are doing. Not poor little uneducated victims who don't know what they're doing. Call me naive, but there always way out if you're not happy in a certain situation. If you need to consume drugs or alcohol in order to be able to do your job, well, it's not your kind of employment. And if those women who got out want to denounce the conditions of their former employment, so be it, they should know better than we do.
The whole sex industry, and sex in general, really fascinates me. I agree completely with Cali. Enjoying our sexuality is enjoying who we are as persons. We should always be honest with ourselves, and we shouldn't have to follow a certain road just because we've been told it's the only way to go home.
d) culturally, that we have a sexual double standard that says women can't be sexual WHILE AT THE SAME TIME accepting women to use their bodies as "goods" in a sex industry because men "want access to it" in order to reinforce their own understandings of themselves as men in society.
Ding ding ding! bp gets the prize, once again.
That's what I'm concerned about - women's bodies as commodities.
but i think there is a difference between ...
a) on the individual level, being sex positive and sexually expressive in your own self/body
b) on the social level, being told that we can't be sex positive because we're women and only "whores" "get it on"
and
c) individually, when/if/how someone chooses to work in the sex industry (the literature, in memory, doesn't suggest it is as "empowering" in terms of "choosing" that line of work
d) culturally, that we have a sexual double standard that says women can't be sexual WHILE AT THE SAME TIME accepting women to use their bodies as "goods" in a sex industry because men "want access to it" in order to reinforce their own understandings of themselves as men in society.
I don't understand this whole a, b, c, d part. 'splain. 8-)
I just DON'T GET IT, MISS! You didn't teach it to me right! This is BULLSHIT!
OK.
Are you saying that (a) and (b) are two related things, and then (c) and (d) are two opposing things to (a) and (b)? Like, I understand each individual sentence, but I don't understand the relationships between them or which ones you think are, um, more accurate? Or something? I don't know. Clearly.
I guess, what do you mean by the "there's a difference between" part?
OK, so when you say "there is a difference between," do you mean that only one of the two sets describes reality? Or that one is more important? Or what?
