Hi all. I have been vegan for about a month and vegetarian for about 10 months. It all started at a county fair in Texas that my late wife and I were visiting. After meandering around and petting all the livestock that were heading for their inevitable doom, I turned to my wife and told her I could not do it anymore. We stopped eating pork and beef that day and lived off of seafood and poultry.
About two or three weeks later, I was driving in my work truck down a Texas highway when an 18 wheeler merged in front of me with it's  payload of a million chickens lying on their sides in the inadequate little cages,...feathers flying. Well, that night I went home and told my wife of the horrible thing I had witnessed and we stopped eating poultry and seafood.
Three months ago I lost my beloved wife of 7 years to suicide. She had struggled with bulimia since she was 14, and more recently also struggled with alcoholism. It was her third attempt in the last year, the first two I was able to save her. Barely. The third time, she made sure it stuck.
I moved back to Cincinnati immediatley after my loss, and have been struggling to keep on keeping on ever since. I finally put my head down and broke my addiction to cheese and have been doing very well with my new diet for over a month now. I'm really glad I found this site, it has been really incitefull in learning how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to discover new recipes.
