Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
HI! I'm pooh bear :D I've been here for a bit but I've never officially done roll call.... so now I guess I'm official.

Ay. There is no greater disappointment than that sad sentence across the screen:

I almost went to Fairhaven at Western... but then I didn't. Bellingham seems like an awesome place to live though.
I have one more year of school left in Cambridge, MA. I've been vegan for 7 years and I love being vegan! I went "veg" when I was 8 or 9 but my mom made me eat fish and I didn't know any better because my mom and sister said they were vegetarians and they still ate fish. Anyway, I'm kind of lazy but I still like to get up and do stuff like cook and explore new places and stuff. I wish I were a good activist though. Hope I get to know some of you! :)
Hey! I'm new to this site and also new to veganism. I'm about six weeks strong. I even survived a camping trip with my boyfriend to Colorado with his family. They are mexi-talian and are all excellent cooks. Everything was covered with cheese, and as a person who put cheese on everything it was hard to resist, but I made it! Soy cheese has become my new best friend! I made the decision to go vegan at the beginning because of my beliefs, but have noticed the health benefits as well. So far so good! ;)b
I dabbled in vegetarinism in undergrad a couple years ago, but living on campus and eating in the cafe made it difficult, plus when i went back home in the summer my mom refused to buy anything I could eat so instead of living off ramon and pbj, I went back to eating meat. Now I live on my own and buy my own groceries so my mom can just snicker from afar. She swears I don't eat meat because i'm too broke to afford it, but whatev!
Anyhoo, I'm open to tips and info...

There are tons of tips and info all over the forums...so check 'em out! ;)b ......plus lots and lots of great recipes!

Make sure you are getting the kind that doesn't have any dairy products in it. The only kind I've found is (I believe) called "Vegan!"
Anywayyys... my name is Dustin. Lived in FL all of my life and recently moved to the Miami area (Dania/Hollywood to be exact). I wrote a little lengthy "about me" in my profile if you'd care to take a look. I've been browsing this site for several years, just never got around to posting or anything.

you must be extremely excited that you started posting! either that or something got you really irked and you just had to reply, eh?
oh man, i love this.
I'm a 23 year old grad student of public health at Northern Colorado (there was confusion when we went by UNC). The joy of being vegan for 2+ years is that I'm hooked now. There's no going back, although I do slip up sometimes, and I feel the rath of an angry tummy!!! Before being vegan I was lacto-ovo-pesco vegetarian for over 6 years, gave them up 2, 2, and 3 years ago respectively.
My own little smiley face comes from being vegan in Greeley, CO. Anyone read Fast Food Nation?Cody, Colorado ring a bell? Well, that's where I live. Yay meat! Ugh!! It's not that bad, but some of the waitresses have had the fear of god put in them by my non-neg*n boyriend of 1+ years. One thought I was alergic to meat. She overheard us talking and I mentioned how meat made me sick. Atleast my dinner was vegan.

I was really bored and saw something I badly wanted to reply to, so I figured why not? I had my username registered for a pretty long time in reference to how long I didn't do anything with it. SOOO extremely excited and very happy! very very very....
my name is keri. i'm 22 (23 in about a month and a half). i've been vegetarian for about 19 years and vegan for the last 8 of them.
i've always wanted to be a veterinarian. it has been my dream job. i would love to save every animal in the world... but i've been researching vet school and now realize that vet school is NO PLACE for an animal lover. of the 27 vet schools in the usa, only one of them has stopped slicing, dicing, and killing perfectly healthy animals as part of their curriculum.
i'm searching for another career that would pay well and fulfill my passion for working with and helping animals.,2100000000000000000000000000000 (apparently my kitten, ivan, wants to say hi to all of vegweb! just credit any major typos to him!)
speaking of kittens... my family consists of my (wonderful, beautiful, smart, etc) wife, brittney, and our seven furry/scaley children.
they are as follows:
boy kittie ivan
girl kittie zoey
boy kittie tiger
girl bunny shane
boy bunny hercules
girl bunny jenny
boy bearded dragon rainbow
(ivan, shane, and jenny were named after characters from one of our favorite shows, "the L word"... hopefully my wife will let me continue naming our animal-babies until i get all of the cast in my house!)
my wife and i live in a city right outside of seattle (like, right outside... i can see seattle from here!). we got our domestic partnership through washington in april. we're thinking about going to cali to get married again so that we can have all of the rights of being married instead of just the ones that other people voted and decided that we deserved having. washington recognizes any legal marriage (as well as domestic partnerships & civil unions) from any state in the usa, it just doesn't allow us to get "married" here.
brittney wasn't a vegetarian when we met. far from it. i never "turned" her vegetarian. i never lectured her or tried to convert her at all. when we first met she had a very unhealthy diet and an even worse outlook on trying new things. once she got more educated on the things that happen to animals and once she tried (and loved!) all of those foods that she was so sure she wouldn't like, it wasn't really hard for her to make the switch. she just did it gradually, which is okay. she gave up all meats except chicken several months ago and then finally gave up chicken about two months ago.
i try to be pretty open-minded and practical about things. oh, and i talk (& type) A LOT.
i have a livejournal, myspace, facebook, & fitday. if you want them, ask!

i searched this site for a while before i registered my username so that i could save recipes. i posted a few recipes and recipe reviews, but i had never posted anything on the forums until the other day. i checked my thing, according to vegweb i've been registered for about four years... and it took me that long to say anything outside of "this recipe was excellent, a little too much pepper" or whatever.
i guess i only thought of it as a recipe book with built in reviews and i never really thought of it as a social networking site.
Yeah I just browsed the recipes... CONSTANTLY. I was over exaggerating my second post... inside joke haha. I don't think I ever looked at the forums until recently.

Hiya!!
Ive been using this site now for years and years and I have never posted. I finally decided to register a name, post a profile, and go for it! ;)b
I have been wanting to make the change to be veggie for well over 10 years now and over the years I have learned how to convert loads of recipes. Our first big household change was when we Koshered our kitchen 2 years ago. Now I have figured out how to go veggie myself without dragging along anyone in the family who is unwilling. I have an 11 year old boy who eats veggie now on a regular basis and doesnt complain as long as its converted stuff he already knows and likes. The biggest challenge for me with him is packing his lunches. I need some new ideas for his lunches this year so he doesnt get bored or throw his lunch away instead of eating it! :-\
My husband loves that the evening meal is veggie and therefore a lighter meal before bed. If he wants anything non-veggie he gets it at lunch time when hes in the office. Im taking this year to really do all I can to improve my health, drop a bit of weight and learn to live lightly on this wonderful planet of ours. Cant wait to chat with everyone here! :)>>>

haha. i've thrown that one around... but what if it turns into, like, a cancer curse?!!
(well, really, i don't believe in that stuff... but we haven't really had one that would fit "dana")
my sister's favorite was dana. my sister is a tennis playing lezzie... haha!
she acted like her best friend died when they lost dana. :'(

oh yeah, not gonna lie, I BAWLED like a baby when dana died. especially when alice walked in, and dropped to the floor like she did. Oh wow, that just about killed me inside. And being the super medical nerd that I am, I rewound it (i saw it on DVD for the first time), and yeah, they SO didn't code her correctly! So I'm laying there bawling, screaming at the tv "no, you can't shock for that rhythm, one more amp of epi, more atropine, no!!!" Yeah, not one of my finest moments, lol!
