Roll Call!
Edit. The following intro is a bit old. I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years. Just couldn't be worked out. I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now. I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!! Woot!
Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous! I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.
I deleted my Myspace page. I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name. Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.
Edit #3 - Finally went vegan. The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners. I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets. I'm loving it! Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore. LOL I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate. I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.
Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor. I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job. w00t
It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself. I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years???? But I don't know a lot of you.
I am a nurse. I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".) I am gay. I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.
I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.
I have a very boring blog here: http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13
You're turn. Tell me your business!
aww, you have to name a kitty Dana. *sniffle sniffle*, i really miss her.
haha. i've thrown that one around... but what if it turns into, like, a cancer curse?!!
(well, really, i don't believe in that stuff... but we haven't really had one that would fit "dana")
my sister's favorite was dana. my sister is a tennis playing lezzie... haha!
she acted like her best friend died when they lost dana. :'(
oh yeah, not gonna lie, I BAWLED like a baby when dana died. especially when alice walked in, and dropped to the floor like she did. Oh wow, that just about killed me inside. And being the super medical nerd that I am, I rewound it (i saw it on DVD for the first time), and yeah, they SO didn't code her correctly! So I'm laying there bawling, screaming at the tv "no, you can't shock for that rhythm, one more amp of epi, more atropine, no!!!" Yeah, not one of my finest moments, lol!
hah. i think we were all a bit teary eyed. i know i cried quite a bit... no matter how many times i watch it, i cry!
Ok, not sure if this is the place to introduce myself.... ::)
I'm Vicki, 26 years old, a vegan for 3 years now - I'm Greek but living in Montana.
I became vegan for ethical reasons and I love it! I'm the co-founder of the Greek Vegan Society,
I love to cook, I love photography, singing and playing the keyboards, growing my own veggies and squeezing my vegan cat!
Oh, and I'm married to a vegan hippie freak.
Looking forward to talking to you!
8-)
Yeah! It's the right place! ;)b :)
Ahoy hoy veg folks,
If you haven't seen me around in the threads yet, I'm Martina, aka Tino. (people actually call me that in real life). This fall will be my 2-years-of-vegan-ness anniversary. I was vegetarian for a couple years before that. I'm finishing up an Animal Biology degree at Guelph (which is one of the main reasons I became veg - learning all about farmed animals). I had aspirations to be a vet when I came here and now feel there isn't much I can do with my degree that I'll be comfortable with, but here's hoping. Some have said I'm an art student trapped in a science student's body.
I like to cook, and eat. A lot. I take pictures of random things I see in day to day life if I find them interesting. I have a bunny named Scampi who just turned 3. She gets all my veggie scraps from the market, which I go to as much as possible because the food is so delish and the buskers rock. I currently work at a kennel taking care of people's dogs while they're away, it's hard work and lots of fun. Only 3 more courses till I graduate (thankfully). I love Montreal, I'm a coordinator of a university human rights office (gender/sexuality focused), I play piano & am currently teaching myself guitar. I'm more traditional than one might think relationship-wise. And VW has given me many scrumptious recipes that I use regularly. :)
I just asked you in another thread what your degree was. Now I know. :)
I'm learning to play guitar, too. I've been taking lessons for about four months. My instructor is big into classic rock. I don't know much about it, so I get a lot of groans and lectures about how important classic rock is to the well being of life itself. It's cool because I'm learning music theory. I guess you already know about music theory as a pianist. I took seven years of piano lessons as a kid and a lot of it translates to the guitar.
There are a lot of jobs a science/biology degree will get you that aren't directly related to your major. You still have a lot of options, even if you no longer want to be a vet.
Oh, and I was a coordinator at my college, too - but for music events. I had a huge budget to bring musicians onto campus.
hh: sweet. I like classic rock alot but I can't play too much of it yet. I took piano lessons for a few years when I was younger, and took music all through high school, so yeah I guess once you know one instrument and some theory it's alot easier to pick other things up.
about the degree/career thing...it can be frustrating because I wasn't vegan (or even vegetarian) when I started this program. Now I know so much more and feel backed into a corner career-wise - because Animal Biology is basically a program about how to farm animals, how to feed farmed animals, how to breed them, how to house them...there are many opportunities out there but few I'd be comfortable doing. It's discouraging to think I might not be able to find a decent job without compromising some integrity or not being true to my own code of ethics or whatever. But I'm also realizing that I don't need a super high paying job to be happy, so I'm trying to look at it that way. Being here for this, for this long has made me alot more bitter than I used to be, but maybe I'll end up working for the humane society or something sweet like that.
Hello! My name is Reena and I am a long time vegetarian (actually all my life because I am Jain) and have always loved food and cooking. I live in London Ontario (moving out next week to Toronto) and the lack of vegetarian friendly restaurants has forced me to do quite a bit of experimentation with food at home, so i have decided to log these on my blog!
Check it out! www.fanaticflavors.com

Nice to meet you Reena! Welcome to the unadulterated shenanigans that is vegweb!
Well, I've been on here since Jan., but...I'm 28, and have been vegan for 10 years. My husband, daughter, and dog are vegan, too. Um, we have pet chickens who eat worms and so are decidedly NOT vegan. I don' t really have any time for hobbies, but I do cook a lot, and I love vegweb because it gets me out of my cooking ruts. Plus you guys(and girls) all seem so nice!
Hi,
I'm Amber and I'm a vegaholic. I have followed a vegetarian diet for about 15 years though I recently started eating fish on rare occasions. I enjoy cooking and especially baking. I live with my significant other who makes a wonderful sous chef and cake taster. We don't have a television so we play records and watch movies. I love my bicycle but I never wear my helmet. I'm an art history graduate student and I study Mandarin Chinese. I'm also a rocksome hula-hooper and Katamari roller.

howdy, i've been on vegweb for about three years now, but have never before bothered to introduce myself in these forums (and only now at the suggestion of my newest buddy, AC).
let's see. . . i'm 23, i live in Louisiana, and i'm working toward a master's of adult education. i like to read (just beginning to gain some appreciation for "classics" after my lit concentration as an undergrad).
i make noise. . . with whatever instruments I can get my hand on (but mostly i stick to strings. . . esp. cello and guitar).
i work in bankruptcy (yeah. . . Blah)

Yeahhhhhhh!!! :D
HAH katamari!
my old roommates had the 2nd one. we used to try and guess what the lyrics were. One of our best ones was "i can make a dream for you and me, i can see the world for all foofy love" or something to that effect.
hello everyone on board! I re-registered today after years of not being here. I was active on this site 6-8 years ago (can't keep track of time...) and now I've made my re-entry.
I'm 32, lesbian, love horses & books.I'm lacto-vegetarian ( I try to avoid dairy and seldom cook with it, but i can eat it), former vegan. Dropped out for practical reasons for a period that was supposed to be 3 months but to my shame I'm still living that VERY extended 3-months period (= this is the third year now, I think).
What I mainly look for on the forum is advice and tips for cooking. I don't like cooking much, and often my food is bland or straight up bad. i have 2 rather annoying limitations: can't eat either bell peppers (paprika) or garlic. these two ingredients seem to be the standard in most vegetarian recipes. just omitting them leads to tasteless food. :P
I have been here for about a year now but just started lurking on the forums, hehe. I have been vegan for almost a year now! I have actually been allergic to dairy since I was 7, so vegan by default. I DO NOT miss eating icky meat and never will again. I feel so much healthier now!
I am also allergic to soy, corn, wheat and a few other things so eating is difficult sometimes. Vegweb helps out a lot! I eat a lot of chickpeas. :)>>>
As for the rest of my life, I am 24 and just moved to Greensboro, NC with my boyfriend. We have been together for over a year now, and after a lot of failed relationships and one failed marriage, I am happy to say that I'm finally content with my life.
I currently work retail because I can't figure out what I want to do as far as a career! Been to two different colleges. Going back in spring.
I love taking pictures, writing, playing video games (nerd!) and watching old Seinfeld episodes. Also addicted to myspace.
welcome!,, and there are many of us on myspace too!
Greetings to All,
I have been coming to this site for recipes for quite a while and tell all my friends about it too! Imagine my surprise when I discovered a forum here too! It is great!
I am a long time vegan for about thirty years now. I work at what most people know as a lumberjack which means a variety of jobs in the forests of British Columbia Canada, (no I don't do any of that awful clear cutting you see on the news). I mostly help the new planted trees to grow and prosper. I have three children at home, 14 ,12 and 7 who are all vegan too and a beautiful Greek wife who makes the greatest vegan greek dishes that you can imagine. We have large organic gardens which will soon be finished for the year. I used to run a vegan restaurant many years ago and taught classes in vegan cooking. This site is a great help in directing people who are beginning in the vegan lifestyle and those who wish to try some recipes. thanks and keep up the good work.
