Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

hmm I've been a member for a while but I haven't really posted much on the forum nor did I introduce myself so I will now hahah

I'm a 20 year old vegan who lives in Queens, Ny. I'm majoring in Math and minoring in secondary ed. I realized that animals should not be used as food 4 years ago but I was not a true vegetarian. I ate veggies with meat. I stopped after a year and a half and began eating meat for about 7 months. I felt really bad and went vegetarian and 2 months later vegan. I've been a happy vegan for about a year and a half and I plan to be for the rest of my life yayY!!

i love baking but not much of a fan of cooking. I lovee sweets :D Other than baking I love my pets. I have two hammies, one gerbil, one mice and one guinea pig. I enjoy going to demos and trying various veggie restaurants in the city.

i tell my b/f that he can take it slow becoming a vegetarian and that he doesnt have to go vegan but i secretly want him to. hahahah :X

I'm hoping to make some nice veggie friends. I dont really know anyone vegetarian or vegan in real life. The only one I do know  lives over 5 hours away.

lilyumestar, there are SO many vegetarians/vegans in the City.  The PostPunkKitchen forums have NYC meetups all the time.

Also, I'm a secondary math teacher.  Are you aiming to be a math teacher when you graduate?

Like lilyumestar, I've been a member for a while but I never really posted much on the forum.  :)

I'm 28 and I live with my boyfriend in (God help me) Oklahoma, a place I never thought I'd end up.  I'm a city girl.  I got my MA in a totally academic field that doesn't offer much in the realm of real jobs.  HA!  So for that reason, I'll probably be returning to school in the next year or so.  I've been a vegetarian for about 15 years, and then two years ago, I discovered I have a dairy allergy.  That sucked, because I really did love cheese.  Anyway, I lived in a city and adopted an ovo-veg diet and it was easy enough to get by without really LEARNING to cook.  Then I moved to the middle of Oklahoma, and boy, it's tough to eat out here unless you can cook for yourself!

Lo and behold, it's starting to seem like I could possibly inherit my dad's cooking gene! :)

I would love to make some veggie friends as well, and at the very least, learn some new, tasty recipes.  Hi everyone!

Well i might as well join in  :) I'm Sarah, I've been using vegweb for quite a long time, however recently made an account and started sacredly using it.  I live in the tampa bay area in florida (old people and tourist central) and have been here all my life. I've been vegetarian for almost 3 years, i stopped eating chicken about 4 years ago, and cut out dairy about 6 months ago. I am the president of the FFA chapter at my school, one of my main reasons for being vegetarian, but i love it! I consider myself a wanabee-vegan, and am known by that to my friends, hah. I've just gotten completely rid of dairy in my diet after months of easing into it, i hope to be a full fledged vegan in a year possibly.
I enjoy sewing, i plan to major in fashion design and marketing and minor in telecommunications and broadcasting in college. I'm going to attend community college and stick around here for 2 years then hopefully head off to UF. I have an addiction to tattoos already :)>>> , i only have 3, i've been holding back hah. Hasnt even been a year since my first one though. I have a peace sign, a purple platypus (named slyvia, shes my baby), and I WILL LIVE STRONG on my ankle in my fathers handwriting (he passed away due to lung cancer in july 2007).
I cant think of much more as of now, my orange 'chicken' has taken my mind off of anything else at the moment!  :D

Hi Sarah!

That's where I am--no animal flesh, no dairy.  I still consume eggs from time to time, though, but I never eat them straight-up (something about a yolk staring you in the face?  Yeah, freaks me out!).  It was my experience that once the dairy went out the window, the eggs weren't hard.  I will still have eggs, but mostly only in the stuff that others or restaurants make for me.  It seems like when you've given up dairy, most of your go-to recipes become vegan, so they don't really call for eggs.  I haven't personally used eggs in my cooking for a good year and a half or so.  In fact, I just threw away some that an out-of-town visitor requested...almost 2 months ago!  ;D

So I think you might be able to go vegan even sooner!  It just seems like eggs are way easier to give up than dairy.  I won't lie; I mourned the loss of dairy in my diet.  But now, I don't even miss it.  With eggs, I don't even notice they're gone.  Good luck to you!!  And nice to meet you!

I do the same, I rarely ever eat eggs, when i cook i never use them (breaking eggs freaks me out a tad bit, and anything that mostly consists of eggs, is well just gross), and i actually dont think i've eaten any eggs except in fried rice i had the other night in months. I just want to become more aware of what has dairy and what all i can use to replace it before i commit to not eating eggs. I use bee products too, eh, i love honey. But leather or anything like that i stopped using a very very long time ago.

I might as well jump into this, why not?

I'm Kristen, 18 year old female from the lower New York area. I'm mostly vegan, the only thing I'm **somewhat** lenient about is dairy from time to time, as I've been having some serious health issues lately. I've lurked around this site for a greater part of 3 years, but never bothered to make an account. I finally got around to doing that at some point in the last few weeks, and I'm glad I did :) I'm a college student, I ride horses and spend most of my time doing art, hopefully working towards a degree in it. I try realllly hard to to stay away from leather products, but it's a bit difficult in the Equestrian world, as 99.99% of your gear is made from leather.... hmmm, what else... can't think of anything... so, yeah!

Hey everyone!  My name is Maria and I live in Saskatchewan, Canada.  I am a 17 year old female.  I have been vegetarian since October 13th (Canadian Thanksgiving...it was mostly a coincidence!).  I am trying to go vegan and plan to as soon as I can...but I'm not sure exactly when it will be.  I haven't really eaten eggs since the 13th but have had a little in baking and stuff.  I have cut out a lot of dairy, but not 100% yet.  I actually really, really, really love the taste of meat.  And I have been known to say quite often "Cheese is my favorite food group!".  It is hasn't really been difficult to cut out meat, however, especially the more I read about cruelty and health.  I think I kind of miss it, but that is mostly because it is hard to have much of a variety in my diet, due to various reasons.  Maybe I am sort of contradicting myself here, I don't know.  I sort of miss it...but it's not overwhelming.  I think just the idea that I will never have it again.

I have had at least 2 dreams so far where I have accidentally eaten meat.  They upset me quite a bit in the dream.

The main reason I started thinking about becoming vegetarian/vegan was for health reasons.  I quickly became aware, however, of the cruelty and environmental issues as well.  I think the cruelty has perhaps even taken over the health reasons, though those are quite strong still as well.

More about me...

I absolutely love dogs, especially my yellow lab/golden retriever, Major.  I love graphic designing... I love self-help/personal development  books/websites/articles... I love food... and I love reading.  I love to cook and bake.  I absolutely love the piano and hope to someday be able to play well.  I will probably think of many more things to put as soon as I click Post.  Hopefully that gives you all an idea of who I am =) I am extremely happy to have found this website.

I suppose I should get around to this.

I am 56.  I was vegan for several years then wound up in a living situation that just didn't allow it.  Don't ask...a bit depressing.  Now I am where I can be vegan again!  During my vegan hiatus I developed T2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and am on some kind of medicine for high cholesterol.  Apperently not being vegan does not do good things for me.  Looking forward to being healthy again.

I am finally getting to go to culinary school...onle of my all time dreams!  I blather on about school sometimes....I am really excited.  A lot of times it is vegan hell.  Classic cooking seems to center on meat most of the time.  Still I am learning techniques and getting certified and all that.

I have a cat "Lacey" she is the love of my life and best friend.  She is one really spoiled rotten girl.

I love this site.....great recipes and ideas!  and there are some very funny posts on here.....LOL

You could always try again. Or not. Or be a vegetarian. Or not. I mean, it's all about choice, really.

Hi.  :)

I've been lurking and posting here and there for the past... month or so?  I think.  And I LOVE this site.  So much.  I figure it's probably high time for me to introduce myself.

Well, my name is Annie... I'm 20 and I live in Southern California (but I'm originally from Houston, Texass).  I'm fairly new to veganism, and I'm loving it so much.  I went cold turkey (hah) without going vegetarian first.  It just felt right.  Uhmm... let's see... I go to community college... and I'm uhm, a Cancer... and I suppose I'm just another soul trying to find and follow my bliss.

Uhm.

Sooo, I've been on the site for a few years now.  Actually it was this site that got meinterested in vegetarianism.  I'm a pretty devout veghead theseday getting all the cliche questions and odd looks.  I'm sure many can relate.  I was born and raised in Monroe, LA, though my mother is from vermont, and my dad is Swiss so I do not have  southern accent or many southern habits.  I love to travel and have been to Peru and Switzerland as well as all over the country.  Currently I'm attening University of Louisiana Monroe pursuing a degree in construction management.  I had been a music ed major for three years and decided that though I have a passion for music and a love of teaching, it just wasn't the field for me.  Currently I am in Houston for the next month working on an internship with an international corporation that speciallizes in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction.  I have begun research on a thesis focusing on sustainable design and how it fits in with modern society on a social, environmental, and economic level.  It's a pretty interesting topic with a lot of surprises like the Toyota Prius is not quite as green as you'd think.  I like scotch, music, wine, bread, quite nights alone by bayou listening to the sounds of the wildlife, running, yoga, cooking (a lot), and much much more.  Anyway that's about it off the top of my head.  If you care to know more feel free to message
