Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

Hey all.

I just decided to start using the forums and not just the recipes.

I've been vegan for about 3 years or so, and was vegetarian for 8 before that.  My partner, Laura, is also vegan and we have a 1 year old daughter who is growing up vegan.  We live in Portland, OR and enjoy cooking and biking and playing with our companion animals.

I am studying for the bar exam so I can grow up and be a real attorney. Laura is in school to become a graphic designer, something she's really excited about.

I guess that's it.  I'd love to hear other people's experience of car-free vegan parenting or other radical parenting perspectives.

Ooh, I'd love to hear about car-free parenting. I'm not a parent, but I've always wondered if that's feasible.

I live in Missoula, MT, btw. :howdy: <---I grew up in TX.

Hi Lindsay!  Welcome!

Hi Jake (and Laura and vegan daughter)!  Someone was just asking about Oregon and how vegan/eco friendly it is... now we have someone who actually lives there to give his input!

Welcome to you both and hope y'all enjoy the boards!

I'd like to think jenniferhughes is a little "radical parent" but she's not around much any more.  And maybe she's just pretty "radical" in my head...

Well, it's definitely possible as we do it.  We use both a bike seat that goes over the rear wheel of our bikes, and a bike trailer depending on our circumstances.  Our daughter loves it either way.  (She usually falls asleep anyway.)  Luckily, Portland has great public transportation so that's also helpful.  Where did you grow up? I'm originally from Lubbock, but spent some time in Dallas, and suburbs, as well as Houston and suburbs.

I was born in Amarillo, but lived in Wichita Falls most of my life. Thanks for sharing the info!

Hi everyone! I've been lurking for years but decided it was time to finally join. This site has been a wonderful resource for me over the years, and I'm looking forward to being a more "real" participant.  My sister has been a strict vegetarian since she was four for the sake of the animals, and my dad maintains a predominantly veg*n diet for health reasons. So I grew up in a mostly veg*n household (my mom was incredibly supportive of their choices) but didn't make the choice for myself until later in life.

Outside of food, I love being outside, playing with photography, and reading.

Thanks for being such a great community and resource!

Hello!

My name is Vanessa.  I have been coming to this site off and on for about 4 years now but haven't really used the forum much.

I have been vegetarian for 6 years now. I became veggie when I was 16 and now I am 22.

I was studying to be in the medical field but I stopped that because I really wasn't that interested in it.  Now I work at a bank and really I think that I want to just be a stay at home mom one day .    I know that sounds lame but it is the truth.

I got married in May to my high school sweetheart. We live in South Carolina.  (Yes, we talk funny and say y'all hehe)  We have 4 kitties  (Hunny bun, Fuzzy, Lucky, and pinky ) we just adopted a black lab mixed puppy and her name is Laney.  She is a handful and very rambunctious but sweet.

Hello everyone. My name is Brad. I started using the recipes here about 7 months ago as a reluctant vegan. Following a massive heart attack in July I was told by the medical community that a coronary bypass or death were my only 2 options . However i stumbled upon many articles online that suggested a lowfat vegan diet could reduce arterial plaque and blockages without the invasive insult of surgery. Happily I'm finding this to be true, the increased nitric oxide from a vegan diet dialates blood vessels almost immediately thus reducing the percentage of blockage. I feel so much better and have more energy than I've had in years.(back to playing 3 sets of tennis 4 or 5 times a week)
I have found that the learning curve for eating a balanced vegan diet is pretty substantial and I continue to struggle with that.
I am the proud father of 4 beautiful children. 2 girls aged 22 and 18 and 2 boys aged 21 and 14. I also inherited my oldest daughters papillion puppy when she was deployed to Osan South Korea. Well thats enough about me. I look forward to chatting with all of you in the future

Hey everyone!
My name is Chris. Today I decided that I would join a site that I've been reading and using recipes from for quite some time now. This is that site. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian about 4 years ago. At that time I didn't quite understand all that goes into a healthy diet and I made a lot of mistakes. I ended up reverting to a standard American diet, which I didn't manage properly either. I began to worry about my health and well-being and I went back to a l-o veg diet again at the end of last year. With it I read and studied as much as I possibly could about nutrition and healthy vegetarian and vegan diets. As of Jan. 1, 09 I made a pledge to myself to live a better, healthier, more compassionate lifestyle. Since then things have been going very well and I feel better than I have in years.

Figured this thread was a good way to introduce myself since i'm brand new hear.

Hello All..
My Name is Casey.. I'm 21/F.. from Philadelphia, PA.

I have been lacto-vegetarian for one month now. i know its just the start and i have so much ahead of me.. but i feel GREAT. Two of my greatest friends in the world have been vegan for 12 years and are showing me so much guidance in this process. i have been an animal lover since i could ever remember.. and always said 'i'll be vegetarian someday.. its just not the right time'. I went to taco bell .. ate a simple beef burrito and really started to dwell. i felt really selfish, really depressed, and sick to my stomach. I vowed never to eat meat again and that was a month ago this very day. I found this site and fell in love. Its helping me find fun and flavorful alternatives to meat ridden meals.  This is a tight knit community and lifestyle that i am so honored and excited to be apart of.

Enough of the mushy stuff  ::) all in all.. just wanted to drop in and be heard  :) :)

Hi!
I have been on this site for a few years but only for the recipes. Don't know why it took me so long to come over to the forums.
I am a 38 year old woman and have an 11 year old son. We currently live in St. Louis but we move around the country very regularly. (work)
I have been vegetarian for about 20 years and am now vegan. My son has been vegetarian his whole life but refuses to give up his cheese pizzas. :P
Look forward to chatting with all of you!

Hi
I've been browsing and using recipes from this site for ages but never made an account, until a few weeks ago. My name is Joyce and I live in the Netherlands. I like writing emails, I use to have a bunch of penpalls when I grew up, but not anymore too bad.
I love to cook as animalfriendly as possible,  I would say I'm a vegetarian. I only use diary when eating cheese and I hardly ever use eggs ( maybe 10 in a year) but veganism just doesn't seem to work for me.
Love to read ( almost eat ;) ) books, wether cookbooks or just anything with a good storyline.
My boyfriend  :)>>> and I share the same birthday and birthyear, we bought a wonderful old apartment last summer ( all the work...aaaargh) and with us live my 2 lovely cats, an old orange one and a choc.siamese. Recently we got a puppy, a little dachshund called Titus and well, he's quite a handfull!

So long for now!

Hi, I'm Kamomilla. I think it's time for me to say something because I've been lurking here a few weeks now.

I'm 29 years old girl/woman and I've been vegan for twelve years. I love cooking and especially baking and that is the biggest reason why I signed up here.  Those Rainbow Cupcakes were so cute I had to make them as soon as I saw them here at first time :)

I'm sorry if my language looks funny.. It's because my own language is Finnish (and because my laptop's keypad isn't always working as it should be..)
