Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

I have been using Vegweb for about a year now, but am new to the forums. I have been vegetarian for a few years now, but am now mostly vegan. I have the most trouble when visiting others, in restaurants and especially when people bring sweets into work. I am getting the restaurant thing pretty much down, though I still make mistakes. For example the other day I remembered to say no cheese on my sandwich but didn't realize my salad came with cheese. Also when we have snack day at work, I don't bring anything and then I don't feel I can eat anything. Saves me from the guilt of eating the things I shouldn't. I hope to continue improving!

Congratulations on your lifestyle change!  Don't get discouraged.  It takes time to make changes, and persistance, but it's well worth it in this case.
I'm a huge pain in the butt in restaurants.  Ask for what you want, and most of the time cooks will accomodate.  Some restuarants, ethnic ones in particular, offer tons of vegan choices.  But if all else fails, salads and side dishes come to the rescue.
As for snack day...don't sit around hungry!  That's your time to shine.  Pick something quick and tasty from this website or a vegan cookbook and bring it.  At least you'll have something to eat, and chances are, everyone else will give it a try.
When eating as a guest in someone else's house, offer to bring a dish along (something you can eat).  Don't be afraid to tell your host your dietary needs...and be proud, not sorry.  Same rule for extended stays with non-vegans.

Hi.  I'm Tami from Virginia.  I'm your typical liberal, vegan, patchouli-wearing type.
I have an omnivore husband and 3 omnivore stepchildren, and we still manage to get along.
I stay busy balancing grad school, work, and my family.
I love reading, hiking, and cooking.  I am presently obsessed with the following vegan foods:
Thai green curry tofu
spinach artichoke hummus
red grapes

Now you know!

Hi! I'm Molly!

I am 20 years old (almost 21), and a recent graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology! I was born and raised in Houston, TX (unvegan) and then met a young woman at college who was vegan and now is my best friend! I graduated college two years early since my parents pushed me hard as a kid, and now it's hard for people to take me seriously when I tell them I have a college degree in Chemistry even though I'm easily mistaken for a middle school kid.

I am working in Lakeland, FL, and I'm having trouble finding vegans or vegetarians near me. The closest I can find are out in Tampa or Orlando (about an hour in each direction). I'm hoping to meet some people soon because right now the only person I know here is my boss!

I have been almost vegan for about 2 years, with an occasional slip up (no more than once a month). But most of the time I am vegan, and it's only the holidays where I have trouble convincing my mother not to put meat into my stew.

I eat a lot of Asian-based food, and I love baking! But with the weather down here, it might be too hot and sticky for me to do much baking during the summer. I haven't started the whole "vegan lifestyle" thing such as buying vegan clothes and what-not (though most of what I get is vegan simply because I'm too cheap for real leather), and I became vegan simply because the food was good (and the college food or whatever I made shouldn't be considered food at all)! Luckily, I've learned to cook vegetables a little bit, so now I throw things in a pot and call it soup on a regular basis.

I'm excited to meet people, both in Lakeland and online!  :)

I know what you mean! I forgot that pasta normally comes with cheese on it, so when I asked for just oil, garlic, and mushrooms, I was so startled when it came out covered in cheese! I need to practice being more specific!

Hi guys! My name's Heather, I live in Ottawa, Canada. I love making fun vegan meals, and my favorites are ones that are simple but also delicious and healthy. I cook for myself and my husband, and film some of the things I make for my website. I'm very into health, nutrition and fitness, but my overall motivation for all that is just to have more fun in life.

I've found that I have a LOT more fun in the kitchen now that I cook vegan food. Has anyone else noticed that? I was never good at cooking meat or eggs, so it's a total relief to not have to deal with any of that anymore... And I've always been allergic to dairy, so I definitely wasn't good at any dishes involving dairy.

hmm... could be that it was too hot - some stoves have a higher 'simmer' than others. Did you use long grain brown rice? It's the least slimy. Even less slime-potential would be to use the same method with buckwheat (untoasted will have a much milder flavor) or millet (use more water for millet).

Funny, I just saw you on YouTube a week or so ago when I was looking for sprouting videos.  I came here today and saw your avatar and was like, "That's the girl from the videos!!"  LOL.

Hello and keep up the good work!!

Hi everyone!  I guess I'm not entirely new to the site, because I had an account, but I have no idea when I signed up for it!! That should tell you something about me and my brain.  I am back (from whenever!) because I recently transitioned to being vegan, and I live in a tiny town where there aren't many options and definitely not many vegans. (And whose county is home to events such as the "Beast Feast.") I am thankful to know one vegan here, and we are going on a vegan field trip to the city south of us next month for lunch and food shopping, can't wait.  :>

I love, love, love animals. I gave up red meat at 12, all meat and fish at 28, and now at 31, I finally made the leap to being a vegan.  I have read about it for the past two years, and tried once, but I am committed to it now in a way that I wasn't before. I have eased into it, giving up leather and trying to avoid animal products/animal tested items since a good while back, and now I'm on board with food. I credit my first rescue pup with opening my eyes to veganism - when I got her in 2006, I just fell in love and couldn't reconcile my love for her with how other animals are treated, when I claim to love all of them!

I live with my wonderful omnivore fiance, who is supportive but confused by my vegan decision.  He did go with me to a Veg Fest in our nearest big city two weeks ago though, and afterwards expressed interest in eating less meat, so that is great! I do find it somewhat hard to be in a "mixed" relationship, but we are making it work. We like to hike, read, laugh and travel. He has an almost 10 year old son who is lots of fun.

So here I am on the vegan journey!  It is going on two months, and the funny thing I have noticed, is that I still haven't been able to bring myself to say I'm vegan.  I keep saying vegetarian. I don't know if I am afraid of failing, or if I'm waiting for some threshold before I feel "official?"

Tweety's opening post inspired me to post here - so friendly and honest.  Glad to be here with all of you!

Nice to meet you Oiseau!  Like you I live with an omnivore and after 8 months of me being vegan he STILL doesnt understand it, but he has become a little more relaxed about my decision.  I dragged him to see the director of "Food Inc." who came to a local university to speak about the film.  Although it isnt a vegan film, it helped open his eyes to the food industry and thinking about what is on his plate.  He does eat many of my vegan meals so probably half the week he eats vegan, and most of his recent tests (he has a certain disability and has checkups periodically) have improved! (although he is underweight he has had high cholesterol and low oxygen levels but since eating more vegan both have improved a lot) Except his iron is low.  I eat a ton of leafy greens but I cant get him to touch those.

At any rate I hope you enjoy it here!  I am sort of an introvert and really busy with school and work so I don't "socialize" here as much as I should but I pop in from time to time. I like the laid back atmosphere of vegweb versus the politically charged atmosphere of other vegan forums, although there is the food fight forum here to voice ones views which is nice.  The recipes here have been a lifesaver for me!  I am utterly amazed at the variety of vegan food choices!  Hope to see you around the boards!

Hey everybody,

I live in Northern British Columbia, Canada, and I've been vegan for about 6 months now. Used to be a no dairy chickenatarian because I got into this big gym routine, but then i heard Jason Ellis on the radio talking about how the top athletes in the world are vegan, so I decided to try it out and been loving it ever since!
