Any tree experts here?
I had a botany professor come down to my lot to document what type of trees I have. I received his report, and here are the different families of trees on my lot:
Parcela cuarenta y tres
Tapirira myriantha
Ormosia coccinea nene
Pousenia armata mastate
Brosimun utile baco
Brosimun utile baco
Schizolobium parahyba gallinazo
Aspidosperma myristicifolium caja
Guararibea tinamastiana sapote
Pousenia armata mastate
Dendropanax arboreo fosforito
Virola koschnyi fruta dorada
Pousenia armata mastate
Dussia tessmannii frijolon
Brosimun costaricanun ojoche amarillo
Aspidosperma myristicifoliun caja
Sloanea petenensis abrojo
Symphonia globulifera cerillo
Apeaba membranaceae peine de mico
Tapirira myriantha
Virola koschnyi fruta dorada
Dussia tessmannii
So now I'm researching the different trees, but some of them don't have much info online about them. But I am excited about the Ormosia coccinea trees, as they are considered lucky in peru and produce a beautiful seed that I guess you can make jewelry and stuff from! http://ctfs.si.edu/webatlas/findinfo.php?specid=5605&leng=english
Was documenting the trees a part of getting "building permits" or whatever?
No, it wasn't required. But he's researching this area of the rainforest and I guess he's already found a few species of plants that don't exist anywhere else! So at the end of the project, he'll have a photo-catalogue of every plant species that exists on the land. He can also advise which trees would be best to build on (based on where they are at in their life cycle, strength of the tree, etc). You can really do some neat things with those nene seeds! Maybe I'll have to start making jewelry!
That's cool.
I make beads out of Pinus sabiniana (Gray Pine) nuts.

Ooo, I'd love to see pics of your "Pinus nuts" :-D :-*
I just sprayed a mouthful of vodka tonic onto my computer screen.

Glad to hear we're both drinking! *cheers* I should have said Gray pinus nuts, that would have been comedy gold
