Thats Animal Rights Conference 2007. Its in Las Angeles, California. From July 19th-23rd. I really, really want to go. I'm not sure I can. Maybe if I find a carpool and roomies for the hotel. I'll probally post a sign in the local vegan restaurant here in town. Those of us going should meet-up somewhere!!! :D that would be so exciting!
EDIT:Okay so I know its technically trolling to top-post your own post just cause nobody has said anything on it but I was just thinking that I'm gonna have to sell you guys on the idea! So I wonder does anybody WISH they could go but realize that they cant go (for some reason)? Well be prepared cause I'm gonna come up with really good reason we should all try and go...the quite part of my shift is ending this morning and my residents will be waking up soon- but Ill post it tonight! Be warned! ;)
but seriously...this AINT OVAH ! ;D
and just in case you were wondering: no, I'm not fooling around here at work. My job from about 11pm till 530 am is "stay awake by any (appropriate) means necessary in order to respond to call lights and monitor residents" the rest of the 17 hour shift I'm cleaning floors, cooking meals, changing "briefs" *cough*diapers*cough, administering medications...etc, etc...sorry don't mean to change the topic of my own thread, just felt the need to "clear my good name" ::)
17 hour shifts! Egads. At one point my friend and I were considering joining the Marines. (WTH was I thinking?!?) My biggest concern was staying awake on an extended exercise. (Ummm... yeah, I think I should have had some concerns that ranked higher than staying awake.)
Anyway - I'm not planning to go to the conference. While DARI (Dave's Animal Right Influence) has been effective, I fear the convention would be half filled with self-righteous angry people. The other half would be totally cool, but I'd spend my time figuring out tongue-in-cheek things to say to get the angry half really excited.
I'm going =) But I live in L.A., so at least I don't have to fly around the country to go.
As far as self-righteous people and such, I went two years ago (L.A. again) and I didn't really see that. For the most part, it's sitting down to lectures, videos, vendors, etc, and there's a protest or two the day after the conference, but far fewer people go (I went), and we were all pretty much the regular bunch of L.A. area activists. The speakers are a mixed bag, some more "extreme" than others (but frankly, whether or not you agree with the "extreme" people, it makes a more interesting and educational lecture. It's important that we understand and communicate with all the people of different POVs in the movement, IMHO).
