Please think before you spend. Only buy what is truly needed.

Touching (and all too true) video. I personally don't leave my house on Black Friday.... Too many years working seasonal retail and the 2 times I have gone out I've almost been killed by crazed shoppers! This year the whole family pulled 1 name for Secret Santa in order to minimize needless spending. I think buy nothing today would be better mif it was buy nothing and donate a little of whatever you can to a worthy cause.

Agreed Lauren. I understand the recession & that we need to have spending to keep the economy afloat (I wish the venus project was a reality but that's another topic) but it's the needless spending that drives me nuts......gotta have, gotta have. We need food, clothes & shelter to survive. We don't need most of the things that are in stores & I buy nothing year round. DH says I am the biggest tight-wad he's ever known. I am not against giving....just spending (if that makes any sense). I am looking into this or this for Christmas for our family. There is always the local United Way if you want your money to stay in your community....or a Children's Hospital, care packages for the troops, animal shelters, the list is endless. :'(
Christmas is so depressing for me. I am to the point that I absolutely hate it. We haven't put up a tree in years. Part of the reason is the commercialism of the season. I get angry if I go to the malls this time of year, so I am trying to switch my way of thinking. A huge get together with my family & lots of yummy food....minimal stress & lots of play time. Anyways, just something to think about Peas to all :)

If there was something I had been shopping for anyway and it went on huge sale on black friday, I'd totally shop, especially for electronic deals. As it is, I'm always at my parents house on black friday and they live an hour away from shopping, so I don't go. I'm worried that my 1992 14" TV may go out and I'd like to replace it. If I wasn't at my parents house, I'd be doing that today.
I kept wanting abbreviate it to bf, but then I read back boyfriend.

I'm hiding inside today. Too much craziness + the first snow of the season won't turn out well. I'm keeping the spending to a minimum this year, mostly shopping on esty and the Rainforest site. Hopefully some of my money will go to something good. Making some gifts too. I don't particularly like this time of year, too many family fights at holiday gatherings :(. I like exchanging gifts and hanging out with the fiance, kitty, and turtles and generally avoiding family outings.

Not 15 years, but this. Not that I ever shop anyway. I am kind of thinking about ordering some vegan essentials stuff with the coupon codes. I have to work later.

oww. Black friday consists of stores opening anywhere from midnight to 4am for sales and sometimes even people sleeping in tents outside to get there early. usually lots of things are insanely cheap. But you have to battle lots of insane people.
I don't leave the house on black friday. It scares me.

It's called black Friday because it's the day where all the stores get their balances out of the red and into the black.
I went to a midnight sale with my brother and parents. I know for a fact this is the only time he's going to come close to being able to affording a TV for his girlfriend. I went to Walmart (yeah, ick) at 4 AM to get my brother a Play Station 3 because it was in a bundle that was a great deal. If we didn't get it in the bundle, he might not have had any games for the dang thing.
Over this year we've had a lot of unexpected finances as a family. I've been unable to find a job. These things that people are in line for all night, yeah, we don't need them. But they'd be fun to have. I'm not going to be outraged if I don't get House on DVD or a Wii or what have you. But this is the time of year my family saves up for and splurges on. We know that these are the things that we don't need, but would like. Sometimes these crazy sales are the only time of the year when we can reasonably afford to get this stuff.
Also, I'm very tired.

Ditto. I sit inside with a machete and a machine gun.
Seriously though, the crowds get SO crazy people get killed. A couple years ago, two elderly women beat up this man because they wanted the SpongeBob television set he bought. ALso, last year in Ohio, people died from being trampled. At a Toys R Us,
