I really want to give something special this year to my mom, dad, sister, and friends but, when ever I try to make something like a scarf I don't finish in time. I was thinking maybe I could ask:
What are the vegwebbers looking forward to this holiday season?
...Having alll three kids at home--gift enough!
Finally being able to spend it with DH. This will be one out of three for us.
Do you think teachers would like some amazing vegan goodies :D lol
Now that is something I can make

If they're amazing (and I have no doubt they would be), it doesn't matter whether or not they're vegan. The teachers would probably love them!
I'm not travelling for christmas. That's what I'm excited about. Thanksgiving back in IL was enough for me.
As a mom, all I want from my kids is quiet. Seriously, just one morning where I wake on my own as opposed to hearing the kids arguing or whining. From my siblings... I don't really want anything. A mixed cd would be cool, as would an offer to watch my kids for an evening... of course, my nearest brother lives on the other side of the state, so that won't happen. As for friends... just a generic "thanks for being you" kind of card would be nice. But, my friends are spread out, I maybe see one of them once a year. I guess if we lived closer to each other, I'd take cookies or maybe an entire dinner over for her and her family to enjoy. That family lives off of fast food <cringe>. My husband... I'm... uh... easy to please?
Really, I don't much care for holidays. If you need a specific day set aside to show your loved ones that you care, and you need a day to celebrate your religious beliefs... I feel like maybe you need to reexamine what you believe and how you treat your loved ones year-round. And I hate tradition. Tradition just seems like an excuse to not think and question.

I have to agree I am not much of a holiday lover either. My family fights on holidays or gets drunk. Both of which I try not to be involved in by not going to the Christmas parties. Oh well! And then they are all like where were you, so and so didn't give me anything, we ate the greatest juiciest ___fill in blank with icky meat thing people eat on holidays___or blah blah blah complain moan and groan!
I love how everyone doesn't want anything material. I always tell my parents I don't want anything but I always seem to get a lot of gifts.

ohy.. with my parents we have quickly learned that you have to specify SOMETHING. because otherwise you'll STILL get a lot of crap. only it will be crap that you have no want/need/interest in at all.
this year I'm asking for things that I know will be useful, a gas gift card, german lessons at the community ed place near by, passes to the yoga studio so I don't have to pay for them ::), money to go into my return-to-spain-plane-ticket-fund. not too many "material" items.
oh and a digi cam. that's the only real solid object I can think of that I want.
for teachers, sweet breads always go over well. Like banana and such. or muffins.
Book tokens redeemable at your local big bookstore! Anyone who doesn't read is no friend of mine! ;D
I used to make "gift certificates" with things like "good for one car wash" or "dog walk" or "back rub"...stuff I could do. If you can do manicures etc. that sort of idea. But they have to "turn in" the paper, so it doesn't become the never ending story.
I'm avoiding ironing...gotta get off here and go do it!!

Yay for books!!!
That is a good idea and I would definately have to avoid the never ending story. I can think of them now...warm up car and ice scrape, hmmmm
Oh gawd. I was wondering how long it would take someone after Thanksgiving to start bringing up Christmas junk.
I saw like, 10 cars with fresh cut trees driving about on Friday. *rolls eyes*
I want to hibernate until about... December 27th.
Not a fan of the holidays.
kthxbye. <-- For JessaCita
Yay, Christmas! I love this time of year - the music, the cookies, the gifts, just the overall happy feeling.
I'm actually not asking for much this Christmas - my main gift desire is money for a digital camera, and then monetary donations to charities. I do hope that I find the first season of Ugly Betty under my tree, though. ;D
I also like buying gifts for people. I'm actually doing some more Christmas shopping tonight. I got my friend the most awesome shirt and can't wait to give it to her. Pic below...
hmm... i usually get a little something for my family that i know they need. otherwise, i don't like getting anything. i hate shopping, i hate people shopping for me. i let everyone know that i don't expect any presents, and my parents know i am not a fan of anything i don't need. i think they feel bad if they don't get me anything, but they don't have a whole ton of money (and other kids), anyway, so i'd rather they don't. i just wish everyone would take me more seriously when i tell them i don't want anything. this is a hard season for me because it's my bday and christmas :(.

I'm sure your homebaked vegan goodies would me more greatly appreciated than the packaged, processed box of See's candies the teachers get every year.
I'm a teacher! I'd love vegan treats for X-mas!!
I am really looking forward to the non-gift exchange this year. My family sat down last night and decided not to exchange gifts-- rather, we are going to pool our money and send in a big chunk to a food-based charity like Food For Life. I am also looking forward to having a tree this year (I think we're going to get a plantable tree and go plant in in the park in January)-- we didn't have one last year b/c we were traveling, so I'm looking forward to the Christmas greenery.
I love craftster for lots of wonderful ideas. They have a whole thread on holidays, filled with all kinds of gifts.
Violin--bake mixes in a jar are always nice. You layer in the dry ingredients in a mason jar, attach a ribbon, and include a little card that has the instructions for how to make the cookies or quick breads. There are a bunch on allrecipes.com but they are not vegan. You could probably use some of the recipes from this site.

My grandma put up her tree the day after Thanksgiving and asked me to help (I said no).
My mom was already asking me when I wanted to go Christmas shopping for the family and friends so I decided I should start thinking.
Here in Spain they don't start choking people with Christmas until mid to late November; however it does last until Jan 6th.
I've already had what I consider my Christmas present; our TV burned out and since we love to watch DVD movies DH got us a joint prezzie--a flat-screen TV with decent sound--speakers in the FRONT, not one small one facing the back wall!
I would love some new T-shirts; but the fun ones are only available online and that won't happen. Sigh.

My families the same way...I was thinking about this recently...they get especially naggy with me because of some bull $h!t about celebrating my birthday....(a day I honestly would rather not think about) I'm also a little bit of minimalist and I hate ....stuff....accumulating all around me. :-X So, I've begrudgingly compiling a list....it includes gift cards to places I shop, books (specifying I prefer to read used copies of books) and.....a pass to the zoo....BEFORE you guys get on my case about zoos not being vegan. I just want o say the Tucson City Zoo has an excellent reputation for treating animals humanly and work very extensively in both public and professional education....a goal i support. :P
OH, O! I almost forgot!!! I want a spice rack...for the only spices I have are garlic salt, lemon mrs. Dash, cumin and italian seasoning (pronouced Eye-tailin...like EYEtaly) ;)
