Christmas Trees
I know I know I know....its better to not have one at all~but in this household, that is just not an option. My dh is obsessed with holidays (the secular versions) and well, I'm married to him, sooo....
These questions are actually coming from him. He wants a tree, but wants to do it in the least harmful way.
What do you think is the lesser of two evils? Getting a live tree every year, or buying a fake tree and using it over and over again.
We live in NC and there are live tree farms everywhere that are replenished, and the trees don't have to travel far. but of course its killing trees. Yard waste here is turned in to mulch (I think) and the old trees can also be turned into bird habitats after the holidays.
If we get a platic one, we contribute to using petroleum based products, pollution, and the fact that its not recyclable when we are done with it when we are old. But, we're not killing a tree every year, and also it will save us $ in the long run.
what do you think!????
I need to decide soon, as dh likes to get his trees early :o
thanks!
I vote for cut. We always choose the 'Charlie Brown'er' hidden in the corner of the lot... guaranteed to fit in/on the truck, through the front door, and in the room ;D
I wonder how much water/carbon it takes to produce a fake tree vs. buying a cut tree each year?

Also, around here, or the rural parts of here, I think you can get a permit from the hydro company to cut trees under powerlines... they're gonna get chopped down eventually anyway.
I put my vote in for cut as well! I just do not like plastic trees, ugh.
Nothing can beat that christmas tree smell. We usually end up getting the last straggly tree a couple days before christmas. That makes it feel like we're a good deed taking home and loving that last lonely overlooked tree. Granted I get pretty sentimental about my christmas tree. ;D
My grandfather actually has the tradition of going out into the woods on his land and digging up a baby pine tree. Usually the most "charlie brown" looking one too. He transplants it into a giant pot and then I get the job of making it look pretty. Haha. Its fun, but it is usually rather tiny. I always end up stringing the lights on the pot and fitting maybe 10 little ornaments of the little tree. Oh I love to love trees.

I love Charlie Brown trees!
One year while I was in college, I went with my family to a cabin in the mountains for Thanksgiving. While we were there I got a brillant idea to dig up a little tree for my college dorm. I enlisted the help of my sister & we hiked up a mountain, found a small tree, dug it up & potted it. Then we had to bring it back down. I thought I knew a short cut, but forgot it apparently & we went sliding halfway down the mountain with this charlie brown tree in a bucket with her yelling at me the whole time.
It was a nice decoration until christmas time, then I brought it home & my mom put it in a nicer planter on their front porch where it sat for YEARS. It would make me giggle every time I saw it. It was one hardy little tree!
