Does anyone work from home?

I'm looking into other job possibilities and have seen all the "work from home" emails.  There are lots of options - survey takers, website raters, medical transcription, etc.

Has anyone done this or are you currently doing this?  Is it a viable option as a way to support yourself?  Is anyone doing other things that are interesting?  What are the qualifications?

Here's my situation - I have a job and it's fine.  The pay's okay ($22K/year) and as such I'm living at my parents, not so much fun at 31 yo.  I'm driving abou 70 miles to work and back everyday and it's wearing me out.  I'd love to work from home if possible but I truly don't know if I'm qualified or what I'd be able to do.  I've got a bachelors and masters in two totally useless fields.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

LadyDragonflyMT transcribes from home, or at least she did the last time I knew.

The other option is to look for jobs where you can work from home for a certain number of days a week.  Because I'm an emergency responder I can't, but some of my co-workers work from home 3 or 4 days a week.

I tutor Eng Lit from home. For peanuts. Because they come to me, I don't go to them. If I went to them I could charge double but I wouldn't get many takers. And it would waste time.
I don't make enough money to be taxed. But it  helps make ends meet.

Aside from going out and creating your own job as a tutor/sitter/cleaner, I wouldn't believe all the online job offers out there.

I did work from home for 2 yrs as a translator but the self-employed tax in Europe is dire and the job didn't last.

The online offers make me nervous which is why I asked . . . I checked several out and there was a "pay $2.95 now and we'll bill you a one-time $29.95 fee after 7 days" offer.

I'm sure it's too good to be true, but I really wish I could work from home these days :-\

Uh, yeah. And they will have your 30 bucks and you will have nothing. At 33 bucks a head, looks like they've got their salary covered...talk about working from home! Three or four pigeons a week and they are clearing over a hundred bucks.

That sounds like these "modelling agencies" here in Europe that ask you to pay a "placement fee" to put you on their books, but then you never hear anymore.

My aunt's and one cousin do Medical Coding.  It was pretty easy for them as they started helping out a woman who was doing this herself, now you have to get some education on it.  They do work from home mostly and just go in to pick up piles of work or drop it off.  I actually considered looking into this but honestly I just dont have the dedication to do work at home.  I end up baking or goofing off online.  haha
