You are here

ever get these moments?.. (work related)

i'm stupid lol...

my boss just called me and asked if i could work tomorrow morning, and i said "okay!". when i hung up i sat here and thought... DAMNIT!!!!!

for some reason when she asked me to work i thought she meant thursday when i was already supposed to work and that she was just changing my 5 hour shift to a 4 hour shift.. tomorrow is my day off.

this happens to me all the time. my memory is crap and it gets me in trouble lol.. like having to work an extra day.

i was really looking forward to sleeping in...

You mean there are others who have memory problems, I thought it was just me! ;D

I have this tendency to not hear what people are saying, I listen and hear the first 10 seconds of what they are saying, then my mind fades out, and then I tune back in, like static on your favorite TV station, and I didn't hear half of what was just said to me, then I look dumb later when I have questions about something that they just explained to me.  That is a big problem with me that I am not sure how to deal with.

But what you describe, I tend to forget as well, sometimes I forget what day it is of the week and have to use the computer to tell me if it is Tuesday or Weds or something like that.  You are not alone!

Ay, seriously. I had a paper and a presentation due two weeks ago, and like an idiot, I told my boss that I could work a long day (10 hours) the day before as opposed to my normal 4-hour Tuesday shift. I was feeling so desperate that I canceled all my classes and sat in my office to writewritewrite. I highly recommend a little calendar-- the very low-tech version of the PalmPilot. :)

i do that! at work, on sunday, my boss was explaining to me that she wanted to take one of our cookie tables and switch it with a different cookie table and she just kept talking and talking and i had no idea what was coming out cuz i just tuned out, and then later when it came time to do it i felt like an idiot cuz i had no idea what we were doing.

but i'm one of those people that has to write everything down. lists, directions, everything. so when she tells me a handful of things to do i usually only remember the first thing she said.

Or be proactive & call to tell your manager that you had your days mixed up and can't work tomorrow... ???

I'm not trying to be rude, but why not take charge of your own life & change the things you don't like, instead of complaining about them? Of course I understand that everyone needs to vent sometimes, but you seem to come on here a lot to complain about your job & nothing ever changes. Life is short--make it what you want it to be. If you don't like something about it & you have the power to change it, why not do so?

You weren't looking at your planner when you said you'd work tomorrow. Explain this & say that you apologize, but you won't be coming in until Thursday. You seem like a dedicated employee, and any place worth working at would understand that everyone screws up their dates once in awhile & you deserve to keep your day off.

um... i wasnt actually complaining. i just thought it was funny and wondered if anyone else had those moments when they didn't know what day it was or had their brain turned off for a minute or two.... it's a 4-hour-nothing shift...

sorry...

Danish proverb: "He who has no memory, makes one out of paper." At least my gran swore it was a Danish proverb. She was from Copenhagen, how could I argue?

I know I couldn't live without my daily planner. It grows out of my hand. And I check it allll the time. "Now, let me see the book." No one realises I'm actually modifying a line from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice when I say that.

i have done this. told them i would work an extra two days over my thanksgiving break thinking 'eh, i'll have nothing to do...' then i realized those were the ONLY TWO DAYS i wasn't working. needless to say, it wasn't much of a break at all.

i only have a few things that i need to remember, so i'll write those in my planner, i used to look at it every day, but for weeks, there would be nothing to remember, so i stopped looking at it, then, i forgot the one thing i needed to remember... to take my birth control!!

i forget things alll the time.  luckily i have a boyfriend with a superb memory, he remembers stuff for me : )

I forget EVERYTHING lately.  I have to write everything down as soon as I think of it or I will forget. :(
