First Veggie Thanksgiving
1st Veggie Thanksgiving
So, I'll admit, I didn't go vegan at this year's Thanksgiving. I didn't prepare any dishes and everything my family touches has eggs and/or dairy in it.
That being said, I stayed true to my vegetarian ways. It was pretty easy. In all honesty, cutting out meat and leather products has been one of the easiest decisions I've ever made. Of course, I've been on the receiving end of teasing and jokes amongst my family.
It seems all of my family knows everything about nutrition and knows that meat is the best thing for you. In typical fashion, I have hidden from my family. I'm sitting in the bathroom as I type this. :P
My family keeps handing me food to try. Things like ham or bacon bits or things cooked with animal broth. I've refused each offering and it's actually pissing some people off. My mom got pissed when she offered me some chicken and dumplings and I refused. She took it as an insult against her cooking abilities.
First off, I've always disliked chicken and dumplings. Second, now that I'm vegetarian/vegan-ish, I hate chicken and dumplings. She was like, "what? Don't like my food?!" No! I don't like what you cook. Ha.
Weirdly strangely and oddly, this all makes me miss Jess. I wish I could be with her and cook some vegan dishes with her. Hey, don't give me that look! She said all of the time she wanted to spend every day with me.
After our temporary family fall-out...let's see what happens at Xmas. My plan is to be vegan before then. It's only a month away! Maybe I'll make some vegan dishes for the family?
go to it! stick to your guns and show them how tasty vegan foodstuff really is.
You gotta learn to spew out disturbing statistics every time anyone offers you meat, eventually they will be scared to.
Definitely make your own stuff to share next year!
this year is a first for me, i'm doing low fat raw vegan fare!
I'm making a persimmon pie, zucchini chips and guacamole, a yummy slaw, a salad, and were just going to chomp on some mangoes, too (bit of a splurge for thanksgiving)... i've been vegan for the last 5 thanksgivings, though, so it's become not very important to me.
Sidenote: I didn't eat them at Thanksgiving but I had them on Thanksgiving break.... I had a California Vegan Burger... Holy shit was it delicious!! I give it the ol' Seal of Approval! ;)b
