Gift ideas for poet?

My friend just graduated with her MFA. She is a wonderfully talented poet and I want to get her something nice as a gift. I thought about getting her a nice book of poetry but I figured a) she probably has a lot already and b) I don't know anything about poetry or poets so I wouldn't know where to being. I thought about getting her an engraved pen for writing. Does anyone know anything about really good pens? Like a fountain pen or something? Another idea I had was to get her a nice, blank, composition book and somehow engrave the cover with something like "Original Poetry by...." But not sure how to get that done. What do you think of these ideas? Anybody have any good gift ideas for a writer/poet? Thanks!
That's very considerate of you to want to something special for your poet friend.
My thoughts ...
Mont Blanc fountain pens are beautiful, with such a graceful fluid line. But they're quite pricey.
She probably has a ton of blank books. I've gotten many of those for gifts over the years.
Do you know what literary genre she prefers, or what she did her thesis on? Perhaps something tailored to some of these interests like CDs of her favorite poets reading their works, or maybe you can download poems from the Internet and burn her favorite poems read live by the writers on a CD?
Or an autographed book by one of her favorite writers(assuming they are alive)? They usually sell signed copies at bookstores where the poet read his/her books.
Lastly, if she is a poet then she has a genuine appreciation for the written word. I think a letter you penned yourself congratulating her and noting all the things that you find inspiring and beautiful about her would be really heartfelt and appreciated.
She might have a hobby that has nothing to do with writing...surprise her! ^-^OK, I'm being difficult...sorry...
How about a nice desk set--blotter, penholder, etc.? Go into a good supply shop and tell them what you're looking for, if they don't have it they can tell you where to get it.
A book on calligraphy if she doesn't already do it.

Wow, when you said quite pricey I was thinking maybe $50-$75 dollars but I just looked them up and they run from $350-$750! For that price I hope they actually stand and write by themselves! :D
She probably has all the poetry stuff. You could get her a book about famous poets, or a book with allot of inspiring pictures, or a satchel to carry her stuff, or even a bath/shower set.
Aa book of Mad Libs. I'd appreciate it ;)b

This made me laugh out loud- seriously!
I'm really glad I wasn't eating or drinking anything at the time

I know! But I love my Mont Blanc pen. Parker makes less expensive, but still elegant fountain pens.
One gift I received and really appreciated was personalized stationery that said "From the desk of ... " followed by my name.
Who are some of her favorite poets?
You're sweet to waant to get your friend such a thoughtful gift.
I would check out Shakespeare's den. They have a lo of literary gifts that I think would be suitable for poets as well.

It's a great gift! Really!
I think the best gift for a poet is something inspiring. I think a book that touches your heart would do a great present, maybe a painting, or a CD. If I was a poet I think I would like something like this, that inspires me to write poetry.
You know what? I just thought of something even better. Write a poem of your own about what you like about her and I think this would beat anything else. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be meant. What is more valueable to a poet than something that comes from the heart?

Ahh, that would be funny to say the least because my best poetry would probably start with "roses are red...." Kind of like the time I wrote my friend from St. Croix a letter in spanish. It was meant as a joke, and I took all my words from the back of a spanish language highschool text book. Of course it was all grammatically incorrect and I called her things like a wet duck. She thought was hilarious but it was meant to be funny. I would be embarrased to write a poem to someone who I know can write really well. :)
