Hair lengths & colors

I looked for a thread that discussed hair length preference (pros/cons) and hair coloring preference (methods/colors), but I couldn't find anything. If I missed a discussion similar, please post links!!

What length is your hair and why do you keep it there? Have you had it longer/shorter and whether or not you preferred one over the other and why? Also, I was wondering what methods are used to color hair, what colors have been tried/resulted and what thoughts or advice you had?

I have relatively long hair and recently started WO washing it. I'm currently thinking about cutting it short and donating the length to Locks of Love. I prefer it long when it is long and prefer it short when it's short (ahh, convenience). I haven't dyed my hair in years and years (I used to dye it ALL the time), but if I did, I would probably be most comfortable using henna.

Thanks,
Me

I have a pixie cut right now, and I think I want to grow it out. What are good intermediate cuts? I just keep cutting the sides and back and waiting for the front to get longer. I cut my own hair, since I live in the middle of nowhere and I can't find anyone that does a good job, even for what I consider to be a lot of $! So, easy ideas are helpful!

my hair has been every color and cut imaginable....but right now, it's medium long, semi-shaggy and I have highlights and lowlights....I've had it this way since September and I love it...and don't plan on changing it for quite some time, which is weird for me because I usually have a different hair style every season....

Yeah, my hair grows super fast. I can usually cut it chin length and let it grow down to my chest about 3 times in one year.

I've never dyed my hair, other than using kool-aid a couple times for temporary crazy colors.  I tried a home highlighting kit once, but didn't do a very good job and didn't like the result enough to do it again.

My hair is currently a few inches below my shoulders.  I cut my hair myself because I don't care what it looks like...I'm just going to put it in a ponytail anyway.  I grow it out until it gets long enough to annoy me, and cut it again...usually about one haircut per year.  I've donated my hair twice to Locks of Love (before I knew they charge for the wigs), but I haven't let it get long enough to donate for a while now.  I'm considering cutting it short, because my kid is a really bad hair-puller, but I'd have to cut it really short to make it hard for him to grab, and the idea of not being able to make a ponytail makes me nervous, because I hate when my hair gets in my face.  Maybe I should do it anyway and get some headbands....

I used to dye my hair all kinds of colors but I got tired of the maintenance. I always dye my hair solid black now, it's so much easier to maintain.

I've pretty much always had long hair, just cut straight across. I have very thick hair, so from time to time the haircutter person suggests layers. I've done it before with long hair, not straightened, and it seems to make it even more voluminous, sigh.

They should be suggesting you thin your hair out.  Layers will not help you if they first don't take out some of the volume.  I have really thick hair too and thinning it helps a lot.

I have had pretty much every color of the rainbow except the normal hair colors, I have yet to dye my hair a "normal" color. and i am in the middle of a contest called "race to the ass" we are in year 3 and i think i am winning. between my friend and I whom ever can get their hair to the ass first wins. My hair is curly.... like rings of curls. I really can't wait til this contest is over, i am sooooo ready for a haircut!
