Hair washing
Some of us use shampoo and conditioner, some baking soda, some just water...let's chat this out!
I always used s & c until a few months ago when I used baking soda. I liked it for a few months, but then my hair just couldn't decide how to be-it was sometimes oily, sometimes dry, sometimes weird. I learned, however, that it's not normal to have my hair coming out so much. Apparently, shampoo (all different kinds over the years) made my hair come out. Not a ton, but way more than was coming out with just a baking soda scrub. I went back to s & c for a short time, but now I'm trying the water only method. It's quite annoying to have such oily hair right now, but not a huge deal to wear it up/braided...which is usually what I do anyway.
P has only used water for a few months now, and says his is way less oily. I'm going to try to see how this goes! My hair doesn't feel dirty, and smells just like water..so that's fine. It looks fine as well, just oily on top! I just rinse well, then try to scrub really well all over my head, rinse again.
I just rinsed my hair with water today - and it's soooo gross.....I haven't washed it since Wednesday.....I'm not going out so it doesn't matter, but I feel dirty and look like a slimeball!
yep, my hair is a big greaseball. I feel like if I took my hair band out my hair would still stay in the ponytail.
However, I haven't done a water wash since Wednesday. It's Sunday so I'm not gonna do it today either.
Water wash tomorrow. And then I'll see how it is.
PS N hasn't noticed my mank hair.
Hair lemonade! Sounds good! (But what if you attract ants?? ;D)
Haha that's an amusing mental image!

N is my hero :P
yup, I have a really observant bf ;)
I'm surprised he even noticed your blue hair the other week!
Seven...days....
Maybe that's why she was so pissy? Hehehe I make myself laugh.
Thankfully my hair doesn't look like the ring girl's yet. Pics in the Images thread! Yaaaaaaaaa! How is everyone else going?
urgh! My hair is awful. I felt so embarrassed at the clinical meeting just a minute ago.
It's on a mental health ward and we were discussing one of the patients who was admitted with depression. One of the things they commented on was that she wasn't washing her hair regularly and how this was a sign her depression was bad. Someone else asked how long it had been sice her hair had been washed - last washed on Thursday.
I was just like 'ho hum, yeah that's terrible!', whilst trying to hide my hair!
shell i think it's so annoying that they were commenting one the hair thing. Since when does abstaining from washing your hair make you mentally ill? Who the hells job is it to keep personal maintenance? The person's..
When I was in the hospital for 2 &1/2 months earlier this year I didn't wash my hair at all for probably the entire first month because i didn't have my shampoo and i felt like I would just rather not mess it up with hospital product. I was on depression meds and they made comments to me like, "Okay Chrystal! lets get ahold of that hair of yours, lets do something with that hair, wanna wash your hair today?" It just pissed me off a lot. Like they could even give a shit if it weren't for the fact that it makes the hospital look like the patient hasn't been taken care of. I hate hospitals :/
I think the obsession with how often depressed people wash their hair is not so much about the hair, it's just part of self care which is one indicator of the person's motivation levels and how ill they are.
Sorry to hear your hair is not happy Shell :( Mine smells a bit weird, I think it's because I've been plaiting it while still wet to keep it off my skin/less oily...but means it doesn't dry as fast so I might stop doing that.
To a lot of medical personnel, refusing to use soap on your hair would be an indication of some kind of disorder...but then they are supposedly obsessed with cleanliness (I say "supposedly" advisedly. Particularly here. The hospital in my area is filthy.)
shell, my husband hasn't noticed either, but he's never been the most observant person...
theo, I think your hair looks great and I love that you've still got so much colour in it! : )
I finally uploaded my pics, and took another one tonight.

eta: I suck at 'self portrait' photos, excuse the quality!
Well if you are that beautiful in "sucky" photos, I marvel at the real you.
Must be true what they say about NZ girls.
Oww- lookin good! How is your hair so smooth at the roots without using conditioner? Mine is very straight, but has a lot of volume after I wash it, especially at the roots.
What is it they say about NZ girls? They are awesome and they rock?
thanks yabbit, you're too kind! : )

eh, I dunno? My hair is normally very very thick, so to me, it looks flat and heavy and .. not so nice at the mo.
Just hunted around for what I would call a 'normal' before pic

yeah...the whole hair washing thing was about the persons motivation to self care. She was admitted with a severe depressive episode and normally is quite competent with all activities of daily living and washed her hair daily, so I can understand where they're coming from. It was part of a bigger picture and I obviously took it out of context for this thread, o sorry if I caused anyone offence.
Theo, my hair smells a bit too, but not majorly, so I don't think it's just cause you're plaiting it - I think it's just a smell of 'you' and I guess the oil in your hair.
I can't believe how good you hair looks, oww. Still looks shiny and nice....although maybe flatter than before, but not bad at all.
Mine just looks lank and flat and greasy. Must remember to take photos.
Lookin' good!!! Oww, your boobs are big again.
I'll try to take some pics..mine is very oily! It looks fine up, but I wouldn't wear it down.
What is it they say about NZ girls? They are awesome and they rock?
Yes! I was raised on Mills and Boone romance novels and all the girls in the ones set in NZ were smart, independent and gorgeous!
I took some horrible pics, but it kinda shows my hair. I don't think it really looks greasy on the parts that I can see, but the crown of my head feels the greasiest. Feels kinda ok right now.

Right after water washing
Dry, but not brushed

After washing, air drying, and brushed (I actually don't like to brush my hair, but I hate the hairs that fall out from the ends if it hasn't been brushed.
your hair is sooo long and fucking gorgeous! washed or not....gorgeous!
Oww, I can see your hair is different, but it doesn't look bad and you can't even tell when it's tied up :)
Your hair is awesome long AC! And nope, doesn't look greasy in the pics. I hate brushing mine too...
ha, I once went six months without owning a hair brush and no one knew.
AC your hair looks great
I think these photos are just not showing up the fact that to us, when we know what our hair normally feels like, it's heavier/greasier/tanglier/whatever-er at the moment. But I have heaps of hope that we'll all be out of the oily tunnel sooooon! : )
