A Happy/Sad Day..NVR
Last night I went to say goodbye to my good friend's dog Buddy. He was a rescue and shared 15 very happy years with my friends. On Friday, Buddy is being put to sleep. Failing kidneys, failing heart and failing back legs. He is a big dog. I said my goodbyes last night and told him to look for Isabela when he got to where he was going.
Isabela, being a street dog in Mexico didn't really like other dogs. When she met Buddy, she instantly liked him. They were amazing together and we often thought of them as boyfriend and girlfriend. When Isabela was dying, I took her over to see Buddy and they said their goodbyes. Animals know. When I got Cali, we wanted her to meet Buddy but Cali being young and full of beans, we were afraid she would be too much for him as his legs were already failing. We took them to a park to see and Cali totally respected Buddy's age. Ran circles around him and was goofy but never disrespected him. They have since done a few walks and their friendship has grown.
I didn't bring Cali over to say bye last night because she is ill. When I got home last night Cali wanted to go for a walk and did quite well so we decided this morning, that we would take them one last time to a park for a short walk. Cali can't run right now because of her sores and Buddy can't run because of his age and health. We all had a lovely walk and then sat in the grass. As I was leaving, my friend went to my car to talk to Cali while I said my final goodbye to Buddy. I gave him a kiss, told him I loved him and to have a safe journey. I said to find his Isabela. Through tears of course.
Tracy said funny (not funny ha ha) because she was thinking the last thing she would probably say to him is go and find Isabela, your girlfriend.
It is so very hard to say goodbye to an old friend and I feel like I have just done that.
Please send positive thoughts Buddy's way so that is journey is peaceful and loving. OK, I am crying again.
To get an idea of what Buddy looks like, he is black and is a lab/border collie cross. Big, beautiful, gentle and sweet.
He will sorely be missed by everyone who has known him.

((((Di and Cali))))
You now have 2 guardian angels.
:'( thats sad but sweet...my thoughts are with all of you. I'm glad you guys got the opportunity to say goodbye.
Aww (((Di))) :'( Such a bittersweet day... but how wonderful that Buddy and Isabella had such caring human friends and great memories to share.
(((((Buddy, Tracy, Di, Cali)))))
:'( It's heartbreaking to let our friends go. :'( I'm glad Buddy was so loved by many.
It's hard to say goodbye, but I'm glad that you and Cali got the chance to. I know it was worrying you that Cali wouldn't be able to. Hugs.
Oh now I'm crying too :'(
Now I miss my first dog George...
I know Buddy is in a better place and is probably having fun and is a puppy again and is waiting to be reunited with you one day. :) :) :)
My heart hurts for everyone who has lost such dear friends :'(
Our animal friends give us so so much love and when we lose them a part of us has gone too, but memories are precious gifts that can last a life time.
My thoughts go out to you and your friend at this sad time

Thank you everyone. When Buddy passes next Friday, I will be thinking of my friends Bill and Tracy and of course Buddy. I have had to go through this many times in my life and it never gets easier. When Buddy crosses the Rainbow Bridge, he will meet up with many of my beloved companions. Today in the park with Cali was a good day for Buddy. Although his back legs gave out a few times, he was happy. I will have a hard time concentrating at work on Friday.
I am sending you warm comforting energy (through tears, of course). That was a heck of a story to start with on a Sunday morning!
You are a special lady, miss Di. Be well.
Sorry to hear about Buddy. It is nice to know that throughout his years he both gave and received lots and lots of love.
Just to let you all know, Buddy passed peacefully this morning with my friend's by his side. That is one dog I am going to miss...a lot! In a perfect world, he has already hooked up with my Isabela and they are young again, pain free and free to run and play.
Thank you all for caring. You would all have loved Buddy.
