In the song "American Pie" by Don McLean, he refers to the day that JFK was assassinated as "the day the music died'. Just makes this pic more inexplicable to me.

I thought he was talking about that day that all those musicians died in that plane crash. Buddy Holly being one of them, I don't remember the others

i'm pretty sure "American Pie" is about the day that the plane crashed with the big bopper, richie valens, and buddy holly. it was rumored that the name of the plane was american pie.

American Pie is so full of cultural references for the time period you wouldn't believe it. One of my students brought it to class and was like WTF?? so we used it as a "dictation" exercise. Then I had to explain all the references!! Took about a week...but they enjoyed it and really learned something!
