Hungrier after eating!

Is it just me, or is there anyone else who feels hungrier after eating certain foods?  I find that sometimes my stomach feels empty after eating, mostly with apples and potatoes, but sometimes other foods too.  Anyone know why that would be?

Hey, I thought I was just a greedy pup! It gets me too...I've never stopped and noticed which foods but it does happen! Like less than an hour later and suddenly I'm starved!! I will pay better attention from this out. Simple carbs? I'm not sure what those are but I know they can have that effect on some people.

My Aunt (a nutritionist) told me long ago that generally if you get very hungry like that after eating certain foods, chances are you are either allergic to it or have a food intolerance. This used to happen with me and cows milk.

I have an old, old vegetarian cookbook with lots of health advice in it. One of the helpful things it has is a list of symptoms that you aren't eating enough protein (or enough of certain amino acids)- two I symptoms I remember were 1) being hungry all the time and 2) craving sweets. When those symptoms pop up, I have a big bowl of lentils or hummus or a bean dish, and it usually straightens right out. (oddly enough, nuts don't seem to do it for me). Apples and such almost always leave me hungry if I eat them alone - but with a meal they are great!  :)

Thanks for the responses to my question.  I think I may just have to make a few adjustments in my diet. :P  Too bad 'cause I looove apples for snacks and cooking up a tray of root veggies for dinner, but whether I have a food intolerance, or the carbs or sugars are wreaking havoc with me somehow, they obviously aren't making my body very happy!

I've been mulling this over since you brought it up and it's true, when I get the "hungries" after a meal I often "round it up" with a handful of walnuts if we have them. They really seem to hit the spot, and this would explain it. And they're so good for you! Unless of course you're allergic... :P
In my adolescent years I was hypoglycemic. Whenever my sugar would spike and then drop sharply I would reach for cheese as my Dr said, "Animal protien is what you need." And cheese was something that was easy to get in a hurry, where I lived. Most people had some in the fridge and didn't mind if you said, "Hey my lips and fingernails have turned blue, can I have some cheese?"  ;D I think some people thought I might stroke out if they said no---and who knows, I might have!
So walnuts would be the way to go now...if I can get DH to keep his greedy little mitts off them...

I have been told by several people that apples have so much sugar in them that you will feel hungrier after eating them. I always eat one in the evening and by the time I go to bed, I feel hungry again.

there are many negative calorie foods, int hat they take up MORE energy to digest, apples are one of those foods. The ruffage actually burns a lot more calories than they are worth...hence "negative calorie foods".

they're nummy though (O:

The whole negative calorie food idea is unfortunately not true.  Though many foods, like apples and other so called "negative calorie foods" contain very few calories, digestion makes up such a small part of the calories used in a day the calories used for digestion will not be more than that of the food.  Though, apples and other low cal fruits and veggies are def good for you considering the nutrients and fiber that you'll be getting.  Plus they will fill you up a lot quicker and if mixed with a little protein and fat, will keep you full longer.
