I can join you now!!!!
:D
I've been browsing the VegWeb site for quite a few years- both before when I was in Brussels, and now here I am in Amsterdam- and I always thought 'Ah, nice....but where in the hell would I get that *insert rare, funny-sounding ingredient here* in this town?!' Neither city is known for being all that kind to vegetarians, much less vegans (although Amsterdam is much more so than Brussels) and soy milk and pudding was about as much as I could find. So I had to stick to much easier, simpler recipes and remain only halfway ever to vegan.
Now, however, I wandered into the 'Natuurwinkel (Nature Store) that is but a few paces from my front door, and VOILA!!!
Flaxseed! Agarve Syrup! Agar powder! Yeast Extract! Cashew Butter! Corn Starch (OK, the translation of certain ingredients was also a problem in some cases, I admit!)
People, they had the Tofutti brand!!! Soy Mozzarella, Gouda, and Edam cheese! Soy Cream Cheese! Tofu Mayonaise! Vegan cookies!
I am in 7th Heaven right now. I can finally make the full switch to vegan knowing that just 2 minutes from home is my Vegan Heaven!
I can join you all now!
;D
Oh, geez! You're lucky!! I have a health food store on the other side of town. And they don't carry a lot of the stuff I want. Not fair. :(
But anyway. Welcome to Vegweb!
Welcome. You know that there are a lot of recipes made from "ordinary" ingredients like beans, rice and veggies. Also, the discussion isn't always about vegan foods. Lots and lots and lots of things get discussed. You could have been having lots of fun with us, all long! I'm stating the obvious (to my fellow actively posting vegwebers) so that anyone who just reads but wants to join in but is inhibited because they can't discuss vegan foods, don't be inhibited! Most of us don't bite! (I do sometimes but not hard, I hope.)

Ha! I luv ya, T! You crack me up!

The luvs mutual, TKitty. I think you contribute a lot to this board and if you ever left, it would seem so lacking without you!
Hey Tkitty! Hey TTex! :-*
Welcome Amanda! :)
T is right they discuss all sorts of things in this site. I've been pleasantly surprised! :)
You don't need to be a full-time vegan to join as far as I noticed, but when I first joined I must admit I also thought the same and that is was exclusively for vegans!
Have fun! :)
Oh, sorry- I didn't mean join you on the discussion boards- I just meant join you as a vegan, not as an ovo-lacto veg!
But sure, why not! I'll join the discussion boards more too!
:)
Welcome! There is a lot of people with different diets on here. Vegweb isn't just for vegans. There a lot of ovo-lacto veggies on here as well. You didn't have to feel left out. Please do (Join in the fun)! Just watch out for Tin. She bites LOL. J/k Tin ;)
Well, there's me learning something new!! I had always thought that Holland would be extremely vegan-friendly. Don't know where I got the idea, perhaps because they seem to favour "alternate lifestyles" (I hate that term but can't think of another one right now.) Shows how much I don't know.
Welcome, to the board, and to veg*nism! Even us ovolactoveggies are nice folks in this little patch of Vegetaria!

and can i just say, i'm sure its just me being special, and that i should :-X but... Natuurwinkel... that is a beautiful sounding word... it conjures some lovely images in my head... i keep picturing 50's winkle-picker boots made from bits of bark and leaves and periwinkle flowers. yeah.... i need to stop thinking, i think. :D

Oh,That makes sense. Now I feel dumb.. :P ;D
Amsterdam is vegetarian friendly, definitely- there are vegetarian restaurants, vegetarian options in all restaurants, and certainly enough in a supermarket. But it's being vegan that is hard.
Or else...I thought it was hard until I found the natuurwinkel around the corner!
