i cheated....
i was at my mom's house this weekend and she had made some chocolate chip cookies for my daughter...my mom makes (made) the BEST cookies in the world. well, she and my husband were outside and i was breaking off little pieces of the cookie to give to my kid, and i thought, "i'll just break off a tiny piece for myself, just for memory's sake"....so i did. and the weirdest thing happened....i SPIT IT OUT!!!! it tasted like pure, disgusting butter!
now, i know it was bad that i gave in to temptation like that, but at the same time i feel like something good came out of it. that was the first time since going vegan that i knowingly ate something with butter/eggs in it, and i hated it. and it's just so weird becuase those cookies used to taste like heaven to me. i would eat 4 or 5 of them in one sitting....and now i can't even bear to have a small crumb of one in my mouth for 2 seconds.
it just made me realize that my "transformation" is complete!
and that made me happy, so i had to share! ::)
that happened to me a couple of years ago with a Recees Peanutbutter Cup. I just wanted to taste it, since I used to gobble down 4 at a time....BLECH! It tasted so cheap and crappy I couldn't stand it.
I haven't slipped since.....sometimes it just takes a little taste to realize that you are not really missing what you thought you were missing afterall!
I get free donuts all the time from Dunkin Donuts for the deer.
Well a few months ago I tried one it tasted like a lard biscuit.
Left this really bad taste in my mouth. Only ate a bite of it.
I notice that with allot of stuff I used to eat especially stuff made with refined flours.
ha yeah my mom offered me a junior mint and it absolutely repulsed me! Go vegan! ;)b

i guess it is something that some people have to do to fully realize what they already know....i know i want to be vegan, and i know i don't want to eat animal products, but it took the taste of butter to kind of confirm the fact....
you know, i can't taste whey though.... i have discovered it in a few things that i have eaten (after i had already eaten them) and i never would have known that it was in there.
AND...speaking of whey.... am i a TOTAL idiot, or did smart balance recently become un-vegan? i thought....no....i was certain that i had read/heard that it WAS vegan and i never thought anything else about it, and i was casualy reading the back of the container today and it said that it contains whey! is that new?? or am i totally confused? >:( :'(

all of the Smart Balance spreads I've seen are not vegan, but EARTH Balance is the one that is vegan...
...that is, unless You get the Earth Balance with added Omega 3's, because that crap contains FISH OIL. >:(

Smart Balance used to have a vegan spread but I have not seen in a long time.

ok. maybe it is smart balance light that i bought before...idk. i bought earth balance and it was really good....but SO much more expensive! i mainly use olive oil for cooking, but if i bake something it just kills me to use a $5.00 tub of spread on one thing! i guess i'll have to do something though. at least my daughter and husband can eat what is left of the smart balance.

Earth Balance and Smart Balance brands are pretty good at labeling "Vegan" on theiir containers. Its usually printed somewhere by the bar code...otherwise, a quick look at the ingredients...b/c they do say "from fish oil" on them.
At least they arent sketchy about hiding things in there.
They have so many versions, i cant keep em straight. :-\

I used to get the two small tubs of Smart Balance that were sold together and I could swear they were vegan. But whenever I checked the large tub (which was of course cheaper), it had whey in it! I'm virtually positive those little containers I was purchasing weren't the light variety, but who knows. Just another theory...

Smart Balance Organic is also vegan. It must not taste too bad because my husband will use it if he doesn't have the crap he usually eats.
Okay Ive got a 13 oz container of organic certified smart balance whipped Buttery Spread and it says 100% Vegan in two places on it. It's the one in the green container. The ingredients look okay to me but i always need a second pair of eyes. Im gonna be so pissed because i love this stuff!
