i hate ag day
so we have a special day at our school called ag day, it stand for agriculture day. i found out this morning, while in the midst of ag day, that it is just horrible.
Some of the things that ag day offers is getting a picture taken with either a baby goat or a tractor, i dont mind getting a picture with the tractor, but have 800+ students handling a baby goat in a day would be super stressful, i would think. then there's the dairy where a dairy cow stands in a truck, the truck is kind of like an ice cream truck where the side opens up and you can see in. anyways, this dairy cow is in there, just standing and staring at the wall, while this big ol dude talks about how dairy is so important for our teeth and bones and for us to be healthy and strong. then he milks the cow with his hand and then with the pump. then theres the beef station where they talk about how beef and meat is an integral part to the food pyramid, theres the livestock truck, you know the big ones with small holes that animals are carried around in? the kids get to run all throughout it. but the problem that i have with it is that it shows the kids that being in there is so much fun, but it wouldnt bee too much fun if the kids had to stand in there with the rest of their school at the same time like the cows do. then theres the trapper station where trappers bring all their traps and a couple skins and some stuffed wild animals with them and show the kids alllll about trapping, that one made me nautious. then theres several other stations talking about animals, like roping, vet care, and some other stuff that i didnt see. there was one teeny tiny station that i saw that was about tomatos, and another even smaller one about water
thats just another day added to my list of 'days to take off of work'.
Poor Kelsi.
And this bored cow standing on steel that you're bonding with kids is going to be taken to a slaughter house where she's be may or may not be adequately stunned before being hung upside down with her throat cut where she may still be consciousness as she's being skinned. Isn't that fun? Now go home and tell Mom that you want Bessie for dinner. If you like her big, beautiful eyes we can send them to your class after we yank 'em out.
Kelsi, I'm sorry :'( I feel your pain . . . literally.
I hate living in Texas sometimes. FFA is huge down here as is the whole "showing" animals. It breaks my heart to know that these kids raise an animal, show it and sell it to the highest bidder knowing that it's going to be eaten.
I've heard that parents make their children call the pigs charming names like "Breakfast" and "Bacon". It literally makes me want to vomit when I hear about any of it.
I'm sorry that they are teaching little ones these things...
I have nothing other to add but :'(
Same thing happens here. They get two days off of school to go to the livestock shows even if they don't raise an animal. It's all kill, kill, kill around here. When I was teaching Sunday School, one of the boys loved to brag that his Dad pays him money to shoot sparrows and other small birds because they eat a bit of his livestock feed. They are taught to murder at a very young age! :'(

the kids thought the animals were so cute and pretty too. it made me want to say, then why do you eat them!??! oh except for the pig, they just called the pig names, according to the gym teachers.
thanks for all the support. today was really hard.
