Job Applications
I just spent 45 minutes online applying for a job at JC Penney. I've done an assload of online apps, but I really really did not like this one. One of their questions was something along the lines of "A person wearing torn pants and a stained T shirt enters the housewares department and begins looking at expensive mattresses. You would: A) Complement him on his eye for quality, B) quietly ask your co-workers to keep an eye on him C) call security D) tell him not to sit on the mattresses, or D) tell him to move on. This question alone made me not want to work for Penney's, but then I got to the end, and the application told me that my answers did not match what the Company is looking for in a sales associate. Just knowing the way that they judge thier customers makes me never want to shop there again.
On the bright side, I applied for a position at Whole Foods. I just need to go follow up now.
I actually got hired there in the shoes department, but after I found out they work on commision, I didn't bother going to orientation.
Judgemental Jackasses. I too shall boycott!
That is seriously messed up. I would have chosen (a)...I guess I probably would have gotten the same message. Wtf chance is there >:( that he was going to try and steal a mattress?!
I agree that's full of crap but not exactly surprising. When my sister and I dyed our hair pink we'd get followed around in stores. Not sure if it was because of the hair alone or the surprise at seeing double pink goodness. :)
I have boycotted J.C. Penney's ever since I read (Why Animals Matter: The Case For Animal Protection) that they falsely advertised real fur as faux fur (was actually fur from dogs and raccoon dogs). Other companies who also had false labels pledged to go fur free, but Penney's had its employees cover the "raccoon" label with black marker and return the products to the shelves.

Holy shit - that's awful.
