karatekid not going back to vegan

:'( Not for a while anyway. I was vegan for a year, but when I had my last job, it hurt my B12 (all the lifting, OT, ect). I was SOOOO tired all the time and lost a lot of weight. My new job is similar :( Well, It's a bit easier than the last, but (believe it or not) I'm doing the same darned parts on the same darned machines (my last job is actually sending us their over-load of work >:( ). But this job is more enjoyable (no OT and more money).
My point is that there is still a lot of lifting and running around. I'm just paranoid that the same thing will happen if I go vegan again. I'm thinking of staying laco-veg.
Any suggestions or advice?
Even if you do go ovo-lacto, B12 supplements might be a good idea. (However, if you weren't trying them before, then it's entirely possible (in fact it would make sense) that such supplements would keep your B12 levels high even on a vegan diet...)
No advice, just an anecdotal story.
I went vegan around 2000 I was always tired and never felt well, so it didn't last. In 2006 I went vegan again and it was easy - no problems at all. I think it's important to listen to your body. I think it's also important not to get stuck in the thought that it will always feel the same, because it may not.
I'm glad you're feeling better.
My husband is lactose intolerant but not vegan and he does have a B-12 deficiency. Real deficiencies are quite rare and can cause serious health problems. I'm sure you've gotten this checked out, but if you haven't seen a doctor it would probably be a good idea.
Yes, KK, listen to your body. Do what you have to do to remain healthy. As your body changes over the years, as your activities change (who knows, you may find a dreamboat job with no lifting!) you can rethink your plans...yearly, monthly, whatever it takes.
Good for you.
Agreed listen to your body. My partner doesn't eat any dairy or eggs, but he does eat meat. He tried being a vegan for 6 months, and well, it was bad ... to say the least. I, personally, don't think it's a diet that works for every single person.
I don't know what the reasons were for you going vegan but if there were animal or ecological ... you can still do your part. Just shop for local, small farm, organic dairy. None of the mass produced stuff.
Thanks all. Ecstatic, I went vegan for health reasons, then it turned into more than that. But the vegan is still in me. I still read labels, don't buy clothing from dead animal ect. I do have to find a free range farm for milk, ect. But That's not a problem.
I'll stay lacto-veg for a while. Then I'll try vegan again around my birthday (a birthday present for myself) in January.
i have to eat so much constantly so i won't loose weight.
and my mom ALWAYS worries about me and randomly brings up some theory that maybe im not the type of person who should be vegan.
it makes me sooooooooooooo mad.
I went through that just now with my DH's mom. "Where do you get your vitamins?" Blah blah blah ..... ggggrrrrrr >:(
I've been reluctant to post this because I feel guilty, (I think I posted in one of the Thanksgiving threads that I wouldn't worry about dairy that day) but I've been having small amounts of dairy and egg lately too. I very rarely get sick & I've been REALLY sick (strep throat, flu) twice since going vegan in July. I was hungry all the time & I think it messed with my immune system. I still try to mostly eat vegan, but don't worry about some cheese or egg when I'm really hungry or I go out to eat or if someone else prepares it. It is also a lot better for me mentally. I enjoyed my Thanksgivings (yes, I had two) by just eating the side dishes without worry about cream & butter.
I don't see this as an all or nothing situation though. I just try to do the best I can and don't get mad at myself if I do eat some cheese or whatever. If one of the reasons why you are going vegan is for your health, and your health is suffering because you are vegan, that doesn't really make any sense does it?

Hear, hear!! A living veggie is better than a dead vegan, surely? ;D JK, but you see the point.
