Key stuck in ignition!

Does anyone know how to get out a key stuck in the ignition? I called a locksmith, but he said in an ideal situation, it would cost $100+. And they're the cheapest in town.I have $130 and that was my car payment. Also, I had to call off work, which  I so cannot afford to do.

So its pretty much a crappy situation all around.

graphite could do the trick. Can you start the car and turn it off?

I'm afraid I have no advice for you regarding getting the key out.  Unfortunately, it might mean that your ignition switch has gone bad.  That happened to my old Cutlass years ago.  What kind of car is it?

This may be a really stupid suggestion,  but I had this happen to me once and I panicked thinking the key was really stuck when it actually wasn't.  Worth a try at least:  While grasping the key and attempting to pull it out of the ignition, turn the wheel really hard to the right or left until it "catches".  It will usually come right out then with no issue.  Keeping my fingers crossed this really simple solution works for you and it is not more seriously stuck!!

Its a '97 GMC Jimmy. I think its stuck in the start position and won't start up or go back far enough to come out. The guy is on his way now. I called my car dealer and they said to find out for sure how much it would cost then call back so we can work something out.  :'(

Nevermind! My uncle just happend to drop by and he fixed it!

Yay for your uncle...and yay for you!  I hope it was just a random incident and not an indication of any impending problems.  The reason I asked about the type of car is because I know that some older model Hondas had a problem with ignition switch failure....obviously that doesn't apply to your Jimmy.

This happens to me all the time. Esp if I use my spare key, which is a crappy copy I guess. I also try to jiggle the key as I'm turning the wheel one way or another.
