Let's all take a minute to say goodbye..

I don't know how many of you know, or even care, but September 7 is the last day that Rent will be performed on Broadway.

Rent introduced me to the world of musical theatre. It was the first musical I saw because I wanted to see it. I fell in love with it. I have converted people into rent heads. I stood in line for a long time to see the cast of Rent perform in Bryant Park. I've even taken my parents to see it. For me, this truly is the end of an era. RIP, Broadway Rent. It's truly transformed my life.  1996-2008.

Also, we have to remember the late, great Jonathan Larson, the creator of Rent. It's so sad that he never got to see his dreams realized.

For real, this upsets me.

It's okay that you haven't seen it on Bway. But if you get a chance to see the final tour, do. The movie is okay, but because it's a movie, it's different. And of course I made the hoodie. Can't go buying these things, now can I?

I saw it in London (yup, RENT in London) and on Broadway. But even given that, I STILL cry whenever I see "Seasons of Love" in the very opening of the RENT movie. I think it's just seeing the original cast still so passionate, and still such a family, after so many years. Also I was SO into the original soundtrack even before getting to see the show or the movie. I get so annoyed at people who say it's "dated" because the characters don't care about money.

Sorry, I'm not coherent right now. I'm sad to see it go. That is all.

I am obsessed with Rent! How sad....I didn't see it in NY but I did see it at another large venue in FL. I can listen to it over and over and never get tired of it!
whenever we travel, its definitely my music of choice....except I keep having to bleep things out.
I started listening in 1996 when I met my dh and all his friends were in musical theater.  :-\ :'(

I guess I'm the freak here cause I didn't really care much for Rent. I'm much more of a Les Mis girl I guess.

I saw Rent with the original cast back in the 90's. I've seen Les Mis 3 times in the past decade.  I miss living near NYC.

I saw it on Braodway about three years ago, on a high school musical (not the movie) trip. It was great - I really enjoyed it, although I wasn't on e of those Rent heads, like some of my fellow students.
