Mother's Day Plans?

Anyone got 'em? If so, what's the plan?

As usual, I need ideas! I live close to my mom so I usually surprise her with breakfast treats but I want to do something really special this year... any ideas??

My siblings and I reenacted some photos from when we were kids (a la http://www.zefrank.com/youngmenowme/blog/) - we're going to frame the old and new versions side by side for a more interesting spin on the framed-photos-of-us gift. We went to thrift stores and pretty closely matched our ridiculous 80s outfits in the originals - they look awesome!

omg this idea is amazing

I'm baking vegan and diabetic-friendly peach streusel bars  and oatmeal raisin cookies. I bought her a mixed flower bouquet of roses, lilies and teeny flowers in a cute plaid carry bag with handles. Rushed to get prints from our recent Japan trip. Bought a pretty, decorative frame for a photo of Mom and her cute baby granddaughter whom we met for the first time on our Japan trip. Also bought handmade flower fabric pins for my grandmas at a little Japanese village boutique.

... Hubby has told me that I can sleep in late and he'll make vegan pancakes & a fresh fruit salad with our 3 year old for breakfast.

Sleeping in late would be the best gift ever! (I don't think its humanely possible anymore, even if I really tried.)

In the end, I didn't sleep in late! The house was so awake that my brain couldn't turn it off, so I get to VegWeb while I hear my hubby making the pancakes with my daughter.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

I spent the morning cooking a risotto and baking bread, then we had lunch at my in-law's place , and back across town for dinner [roast veges and risotto and various dead animals with my parents and my grandmother before going home very tired at the end of the night.
A nice family day though! : )

I was away from my mom for the first time this year too.  She was supposed to be in Chicago during the week for training and home on the weekends so I didn't send flowers to either place because she wouldn't have seen them that long before leaving.  I found out too late that the training was cancelled so she would've been home to receive some.  So instead I just sent her a card that will arrive late and we've spoken on the phone and are supposed to skype later this evening. I think I'm also going to send her a package of vegan goodies inspired by our vw gift exchanges since she's a relatively new vegan.

We took my mother on a picnic. The temperature never made it to seventy, so it was pretty chilly in the shad with the wind. But she said she had fun. I made non-vegan cupcakes so the whole family would eat them. I made a bunch of other food, too. And planned the thing. And I got her Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives on DVD because she loves Guy Fieri. My brother bought her cups for her Keureg. And she got flowers delivered to her on Friday. It was a pretty okay day.

I made a huge mother's day dinner for our moms! We had:

Spicy tortilla casserole with potatoes, roasted poblanos, and pine nut crema
Polenta rancheros made with Venezuelan black beans, with cashew sour cream
Cabbage salad with citrus cilantro vinaigrette
Guacamole
Pineapple salsa

peach tea, and wine

caramel pecan bars and balsamic basil strawberries for dessert!

Then we played Scrabble. :)

Sounds awesome, AC!
I also made a huge mother's day feast!

I made Eggplant Pomodoro (mother's request), Greek salad and served with French Bread (it all looked like it was Italian themed....)

I made a giant cupcake cake for dessert, with vanilla pudding in the middle - delicious, but it didn't travel well so it looked rather disturbing when we went to serve it....(I'll post pictures of it later - not my finest baking moment)

Then we played Apples to Apples!

Then we played Apples to Apples!

I think we would have played that next if my dad hadn't taken like 89 minutes for each of his Scrabble turns! Freakazoid.

sounds good!!! I made BBQ tofu, an asparagus, broccoli, red lentil and quinoa soup and chocolate cupcakes with a cream cheese puddingish-frosting! (delicious and with out the full three cups of powdered sugar I usually use.)

I got my mom a hanging flower basket, my mom is so amazing!!!!, and my MIL a peace sign wind chime, (shes quite a hippie! love her!)

Taj got me a potted Iris to plant, its gorgeous and a .......................car-phone charger, (exciting, but better than the car seat covers I got as one of my Christmas presents.) I also got a rose bush and hanging flower basket from some other family.  I am so excited to get them in my yard!

We (myself, fam and my 5 sisters and their fam) all meet over at my parents house. We bring some food and alcohol and just hang out and enjoy each other.
It's great having everyone together! I always bring the vegan food!

I'm a bad daughter because I was going to go visit her Saturday with veggies from the farmer's market and dark chocolate truffles from Schakolad so I could go to the Pow Wow in Dade City on Sunday but nooooooo, that would be selfish.  Sunday it is.

The last 3 weeks have been Mother's Day in various countries. Tomorrow in the US, last Sunday in Spain and the Sunday before that in the UK.

Unfortunately I am niether a mother nor a daughter these days, so no special plans.

Well my mom doesn't like doing special things for herself, she's more of a giver. Sssoooo I'm going to surprise her. I'm baking her favorite cake, apple upside down cake with a caramel sauce and I'm making a dinner specially for her. I got her an ipod, something she's been wanting for a really long time. I'm stumped on what to make for dinner. She's not a vegan, though she does love vegan dishes. I also got her white lilies which are her favorite, well I haven't gotten them yet, have to go in the morning. Gotta love that we still share a house so I don't have to make time for her to come over or anything like that.
