I thought we had it all cleaned up (haven't repainted the walls yet) dusted everything in the kitchen and swept all the floors in the house...but everytime I turn around, my hands are covered in soot again!!!! Ahh. Its driving me crazy! but the smell is going away. I had to wash all my cloths... maybe I should just move...
i was sorry to read about the fire, VHZ. i don't know much about soot myself, but i'd assume it would go away eventually. that must be extremely frustrating. maybe keeping windows open would help? i think i've read that using activated charcoal or some kind of baking soda mixture and dispersing it through the air can help too.
hang in there!
Soot is greasy and anything covered in it will have to be washed in hot soapy water. We had a sooty old stove in the house I grew up in and my mom used to wash the walls and ceilings at least 3 times a year. You'll probably want to wash down all your furniture, walls and ceilings. Not a lovely thought but your house will be clean again.
lol...thanks guys. Good suggestions! The soot DOES seem oily, I wonder why that is? Its getting warm enough now to have windows open for part of the day, that should deffinatly help with the smell and Ill try the baking soda. Baking soda is good for everything. Yesterday my dad saw me dumping some on the floor and gave me a funny look. I explained "one of the dogs took a leak here and I cleaned it up, but I swear I still smell it. Baking soda is a good deoderizer." and he just walked away...hahaha. It be fun do explain why I was dusting stuff down with it... ;)b
